The biggest issue with these, as the comments suggest, is the cost. Theres the heady cost to purchase which is somewhat mitigated by the savings on fuel but it's the whole cost of ownership. The replacement batteries are scary prices (as per your podcast with the English Electric Company). Add in the limited market and hence ease of resale/residual cost and all I can say is good luck and thank you to the early adopters. Rather their money investing in the future than mine.

Nice video/bike. I've ridden most of the Zero range on a few occasions including the naked version of the one you are on. That instant full torque from the slight cracking open of the throttle will never get old. In fact the bikes really lend themselves to riding on what the IAM call Acceleration Sense. As a National Observer with the IAM for many years I've several IAM/Roadcraft/IPSGA explanation videos of my own if anyone cares to have a browse. I'll be interested to see what you produce in your next video with Stuart.

@mikeroberts4 жыл бұрын
@@mathewbarker9930 Ahhh, the 'topic of the month/year'on KZbin. 😉 I don't have a video on trail braking itself, but I do have one on getting the SGA phases of IPSGA completed in the correct order. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onKVn2CciZh2eNk The S phase (speed) may include braking and the aim is to get S&G complete before entering the corner/hazard. I've seen all sorts of discussions about the use of trail braking on the road and why you should do it, but riding to the Roadcraft method there is no need to try and carry that extra speed into the corner. Let me be fully clear, I am NOT saying you never brake on a bend. The situation may develop and require you to do so, and to be able to do that skilfully, but that is not trail braking, it is 'braking in bend'. 😀

It's a nice enough looking bike for sure, and all the luggage makes it a proper every day bike. At the moment the usual things are a concern though. 1 Cost (It's an expensive bike and unlikely to come down in price anytime soon) 2. Range and rate of charge. (Getting better in both but still an issue) The weight of it reminded me of your views on the GS. It IS heavy but carries it low down and once you are cognisant of that in braking areas etc then it ceases to be an issue. I still don't think I could have one as an only form of transport atm but I'm also sure that the power and torque would never get old! Cheers for the vid Bruce!

Info idea-in general my understanding is when turning its best to turn body and head in the direction of a turn first when road riding. I recently saw a video of a track/racer type that said its best to slide toward tank and rotate around the tank with hips/back end half off the seat (so that you are twisted opposite the direction of turn). Some thoughts or insight into pros and cons of each approach might be useful. Me --- I'm sticking with shoulders and head turned in the direction of the turn (with back side slid off a bit in direction of turn).

The first one is say i am out with the gang on our saturday ride with shall we say enthusiastic riding we normally do about 200 miles, at about 100 miles in i say sorry chaps got to stop for one hour to charge my bike i would get the finger so at this time in the evolution of electric bike it just not work for me.The second point is why don't bike manufacturers get the youtube thing it is a massive thing in the bike world and free advertising for them and not to say excellent for the likes of yourself. the last is about the IAM comment you must ride like you are invisible to all road users.top content rant over.
@teapotone4 жыл бұрын
Aye that’s very true sadly Steve, electric bikes aren’t quite an ‘equal’ to Petrol yet in terms of practicality, but some models aren’t too far off. The new Energica’s are boasting ranges of around 130-220 miles with recharge times of around 25mins, so is love to give them a go in real world conditions to test that out. I think manufacturers are catching on to the whole KZbin/social media thing now. Certain brands like KTM and Triumph have been leading the way for a few years now and engage with ‘influencers’ regularly. Others like Yamaha and Kawasaki seem to be very late to the party, but I’m sure they’ll switch on eventually. Good point about defensive riding, you can’t go wrong with that 👍

14KWh battery, 6KW charger ... charge time 2.5hrs. As you won't actually get 6KW, and as the charging slows significantly near the top 90-100%, you're looking at 3hrs charging from flat to 100%.

I was so impressed I've ordered one.... In fact it's this actual demo model you rode when they get rid of it in October so hope you looked after my bike 😉 I'm only 11 stone so that shock should be fine. Did you try the speed with that camera mount removed? Also, you mentioned it has the 6kw charge tank but they told me that it's actually the 12kw one which would make sense as 1 hour charge on a 14kw battery would be about an hour and 6kw would be two hours. Nice review, thanks.

Great vid Mr T(pot). I was really keen to go electric for commuting but cost and range were inhibiting factors. Also - is it really good enough to not have a decent back brake? Is that just a function of it not being big enough for the weight or whatever? Rear brake is often recommended for control rather than stopping power, helps settle the bike - relying purely on the front stopper with such a heavy machine risks putting a lot through just one contact patch...?

Get the leccy bike AND keep the ICE bike....
@FenTour4 жыл бұрын
@@teapotone As you are now a business Bruce... You can purchase it as a company vehicle, 0% BIK and all tax deductible (offset against profits)... do the maths and its 1/2 the cost of a new ICE motorbike for you.

That’s all a mystery to me Feb? I’m in the process of finding an accountant to sort out my books etc, so will look into all that 👍

teapotone drop me a line through Instagram if you would like a private chat about company stuff and taxation for such. We all started with that first accountant trip once resigning from employment and PAYE, you will never look back.

the range is still my biggest issue with these bikes. with all the tech i’m pretty sure they can extend the range a bit. just feels that they’re just releasing different styles of electric bike to give the london commuter more of a choice 🤷🏻♂️

Great looking bike, Re: IAM etc. can you do a slot on tight low speed U-Turns and how best to practise them without dropping the bike (don't ask!) Thanks

Sorry bud I don’t understand, what do you mean by ‘motorcycle cam’? I use all GoPro’s for my helmet and on bike stuff, occasionally use my phone for off bike footage. I’ve just installed a new ‘dash-can’ system into the bike, the Innovv K2 so will he testing that out and doing some vids on it soon 👍

So, what becomes of the value of petrol/diesel vehicles when electric takes over? Do they instantly become value less or will there be some sort of transfer over scheme? I.e. It you've been fortunate enough to be able to buy a £15 grand bike now, will it be worth nothing in 5 years??
