History aside today is huge and United opened like they knew what was at stake, base survival, while Chelsea were slow to awaken, difficult to understand given their standing is worse. In just the 10th minute, Cavani took a lead pass from Fernandes and easily beat GK Mendy with a high power blast.
Cavani would return the favor, assisting on Bruno’s goal seven minutes later, a bit easier as United caught Chelsea on the counter, with Bruno and Cavani out-racing the backline and beating Mendy from 10 yards far side.
Chelsea finally began to return fire around the half-hour mark and many were quality, but none could best De Gea, who was absolutely brilliant today and quite deserving of his first clean sheet of 2020.
In first half extra-time, a nightmare own goal sealed this match for United. Chilwell and Pogba were heavily engaged in a fight for the ball just inside the Chelsea half, Chilwell would win the battle, but ultimately lost the war sending the ball back to his goal with enough force and placement to utterly beat his own GK Mendy as the ball tucked in just under the bar, from 45 yards.
There were a couple promising scenarios after, but that would be the final goal as United walk away with a big 3-0 win, ending their 3 game losing streak. Chelsea are still looking for their first win, now with 3 losses and 2 draws, and one can’t help but wonder where they are going to find a victory.
