MD06 - [16] LAZIO V. [8] FC BAYERN [1-1]
ALL TIME RECORD: FIRST MEETING
Another match day, another chance for Lazio to get their 1st SL1 win, and for Bayern a chance to get back into the discussion against what would be perceived as soft opponent, hopefully a chance they won’t squander.
If there was a preconception of Lazio being soft on Bayern’s part, it was a mistake and Lazio made that evident right after kickoff. Still it is another thing to execute on offense and actually build leads to defend and it was Bayern to strike first, Serge Gnabry, a hard disappointment thus far, cashed in with a bounding header for his 1st of the season in the 16th.
All seemed to be going according to plan for Bayern, but Lazio had their own ideas about today and they slowly seized hold of the match.
Finally it would pay off in the 51st when leading a counter, Ciro Immobile found a wide open Joaquin Correa who blasted past Manuel Neuer for the equalizer.
A new match with plenty of time to go, but matters quickly devolved into a defensive morass, replete with pill boxes, trenches, land mines, and kamikaze drones, well it just seemed like it for the offenses. A dearth of opportunities for both clubs down the stretch and neither had a truly threatening attempt on goal for the duration.
Another difficult result for Bayern who could find themselves in the bottom half of the table after MD06, a scenario they will seek to avoid at home against Napoli next week.
Lazio meanwhile have to be mostly content with the draw, it is still a talented Bayern club and they handled themselves well, bouncing back from 0-1. The search for a win continues yes, but a better outlook for Lazio after today.
