Lol... I can’t believe people still believe this bullshit. An engine is a LIABILITY in a crash.. NOT an asset. Engines are only mounted to the frame for support and have to be isolated. Doesn’t matter how many foot pounds of torque you have.. those motor mounts are GONE in a crash. And unless it’s engineered right.. that nice long heavy cast iron inline six is going straight through the dashboard! Which is why when Volvo invented crumple zones decades ago, they made it so the engine goes down and underneath the firewall rather than crushing the passenger compartment.

No... not usually. The crew cab long bed has been a thing for years. Short beds becoming popular with functional cabs was distressing to people who actually use their truck beds for its full purpose. Hard to tow a fifth wheel with a short bed. Need to buy a slider hitch. Hard to put a ton of hay in the short bed, it dimensionally doesn’t fit correctly. Plywood - that’s hard, hopefully you didn’t need the full sheet because you’re not fitting in there either unless you have no desire to close your tailgate.
@Bartonovich523 жыл бұрын
@ roundsm18 That’s why I drove a minivan for so many years. It was hilarious in the building yard watching guys with pickup trucks and 6.5 or 5.5 foot boxes try to decide whether to scratch their cab roof or have the tail gate closed with sheets at an angle or open with them flat.. and messing around with ratchet straps, red flags, and prayers in the pouring rain hoping those sheets wouldn’t wind up in someone’s windshield... while I threw mine straight in the back-either seats removed or folded down-closed the lift gate, and drove away. It’s always fun to mention that they have delivery and trucks with 8 foot boxes for rent for less than $50 a day too to really make their truck seem absolutely useless.

I can understand the front end crumpling to absorb energy since it's something built into all vehicles these days, but I'm just wondering why the seatbelts didn't lock up to keep the dummies off of the dash and steering wheel. I know when I slam on my brakes or hit a speed bump/hump to fast, mine lock up immediately to keep me in my seat. Those seat belts aren't doing any good if they just let you fly forward like that in a frontal crash, let alone a side impact or rollover in my opinion

Not really. Because these trucks rarely hit a wall head on like that. The most common collisions are offset with smaller vehicles. And unlike what you think would happen, the smaller vehicle doesn’t get destroyed. The truck usually mounts the vehicle with one tire, and rotational inertia and high centre of gravity does the rest. Like a 220 pound bouncer getting his foot swept by a 130 pound black belt. The little hatchback has a bunch of bent sheet metal and broken glass and plastic. The truck has rolled 8 times and all of the active restraints were finished after the first roll. One dead of blunt force trauma and internal hemorrhaging, one dead from a C spine fracture due to whiplash, and two others in critical care with various lacerations, contusions, and broken bones. Probably because the driver thought he was invincible and drove as such. But don’t take my word for it. Watch dash cam footage that shows big trucks and SUVs losing to small cars over and over and over.
