~ Brief 2021 - 2023 Kia Seltos Trunk Overview:
The Kia Seltos is a Sub-Compact Utility Vehicle. Within the Kia lineup, it slots in bigger than the Kia Soul and Kia Niro, but slightly smaller than the Kia Sportage.
Keeping that in mind, the 2021 - 2023 Seltos (with the 2.0L and 1.6T engine options) have trunk capacity numbers that actually rank towards the upper echelon in both the Sub-Compact #SUV segment. Consequently, giving competitors like the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Jeep Compass, Nissan Rogue Sport, Toyota C-HR, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and even the Ford EcoSport a good run for their money.

This is a great video, but specific measurements are needed, specifically hatch door width/height (43” x 30”?) and what I really want to know is distance between wheel-wells (appears to be about 41” based on the noodle) and max length with the driver’s seat all the way back. This distance appears to be just over 5’… I’ll bet a lot of people are coming here for those specific measurements. A note in the description would be great. Nice job BTW.

that privacy cargo cover was exactly why I watched this video! really don't like it when people can see inside my car to see what's valuable (Subwoofers) but once you get the car new the tint isn't dark enough to block peoples view so I questioned if it had a privacy cargo cover! thank you!

That adjustable floor is a good idea! Flat floor makes loading and unloading heaver stuff so much easier. Don't know if Kia put this design in all their cars. Would be nice if Soul has it too.

Very good review of a feature that's often slighted or ignored altogether in reviews of crossovers, especially those in the sub-compact category. I have to admit that I'm a not a big fan of a category where vehicles more closely resemble hatchbacks on stilts than true SUVs. But the Seltos is an exception. While I doubt that many families of five will choose a Seltos for its long trip versatility, it's noteworthy that five overnight bags can be fitted comfortably in the rear cargo space. And for a couple or a family of three the cavernous 62.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row (and with the 60/40 split second row) means a week long trip with bags and gear can be accommodated easily. In fact, with the second row folded, the Steltos boasts nearly 40% more cargo space than a Mazda CX-30. The overall cargo space even slightly outranks the significantly larger Mazda CX-5. (59.6 cf).

I often find the cargo area of vehicles to be briefly touched on, but never fully broken down into the nitty-gritty. Also, I noticed how consumers are often swayed by just cargo numbers, as opposed to how much usable space/versatility a cargo area boasts... That's essentially how this cargo evaluation segment was born, and I am so glad that you appreciate the value of this video. Hopefully, this test can be a benchmark! In other words, as I review more vehicles, you will be able to see how they stack up against each other... Not just based on their cubic footage on paper, but also based on how much they can actually fit within their trunks in real life. Secondly, indeed! Many entries in this sub-compact-rated segment can definitely be easily categorized as "hatchbacks on stilts". Hahaha! But, the Seltos surely is an exception. Not only do the dimensions suggest otherwise, but the fact that AWD is practically standard also helps its case. Kia really nailed it when it comes to the spaciousness of this cargo area. I just wish a power-assisted liftgate was available... Anyways, you are spot on with your commentary! The Seltos is ideal for those particular consumers whom you mentioned. Also, as you pointed out, the Seltos' 62.8 cubic foot rating (with seats down), beats some "larger-rated" Compact Utility Vehicles. This grants the Seltos even more bragging rights! i ran into a woman at a grocery store not long ago who said once she put her kids seats in the back, she really had little room. it did look pretty crowded, but i only had a second to look at it. she'd ordered online or something & didn't get to inspect in person beforehand. even tho i don't have kids & won't be packing kids seats, i may be packing a pet stroller, tent, sleeping bag, cot, chairs, small tables, smaller cooler, clothes, wood, etc... so i wonder how it will be going from a honda element down to this.

I was really set on the VW Taos until I saw that the cargo area had a step up to the folded seats. I want to camp/sleep in the car, and your demonstration of how the cargo floor can be raised to make a nice flat area changed my mind. Seltos it is!! Hey, Anthony! Yes. This SUV seems to be the ideal size for most... I think a hybrid Seltos (or even an electric one) would be interesting. Especially since the only other HEV/PHEV/EV that Kia offers is the Niro which is a bit smaller than the Seltos in terms of interior dimensions. Honestly, it shouldn't be too difficult because Kia already has a solid powertrain in the Niro. We shall see. But, it might be a bit delayed because Kia might not want to dilute their Niro (and upcoming next-gen Soul EV) sales. But, I totally understand where you are coming from. Having a larger version like the Seltos would be super convenient. Especially since Kia doesn't have any other Hybrids/EVs that are larger. Even the Soul EV was recently discontinued (but will return for the 2021 model year on a new platform)... So, maybe Kia will in fact implement HEV, PHEV, and EV tech in the Seltos? I'm in favor of it, but we'll see if Kia decides to do it. It might become too saturated with a Soul EV, Niro EV, and Seltos EV... But, who knows! This vehicle is still in its first model year... Therefore, anything can happen! 😎 But hey! If anything, I'm leaning more towards the possibility of Kia taking the Seltos down the hybrid route... Especially with its already established AWD capability (which the Niro currently doesn't offer). Thanks again for commenting, Anthony! Thank you. Many of us travel with dogs in crates. Consider demonstrating how many crates & of what size can fit in the trunk area, along with the availability of secure tie-down spots. I recommend Ruffland kennels for this, but there are many options.

Thank you for the practical review! I don't why manufacturer's don't list the actual dimensions of the cargo area (length and height). The Seltos is a great car too by the way. My parents bought one last September and it handles great, is peppy and is loaded with tech!

Same here! Having a power liftgate is always convenient. In lower-end trims, I understand the lack of one. But, at nearly $30,000 (with this SX-T) I was expecting a power liftgate as at least optional equipment... Especially since some competitors offer that feature at the same price or slightly less. I'm sure Kia will rectify this in the future. Also, I 100% agree! This trunk is soooo spacious. For the price, it's tough to find anything larger in this sub-compact sector. Hmmm... That's an interesting conundrum. I'd personally recommend you test drive both to see which one you like the most. But, I can provide you with a few differentiating factors between the two that might help you out. :) For one, the Seltos is larger than the C-HR (as far as trunk space and interior passenger volume goes). Also, the Seltos offers two engine options (and AWD) while the C-HR only offers one engine (and only FWD). This means, if you're looking for a sub-compact crossover that is quick and features AWD, the Seltos is undeniably the better choice. The C-HR is undeniably less SUV-like than the Seltos, which adds to its charm! Personally, I really like the sleek almost coupe-like nature of the C-HR. Even though I haven't tested out a C-HR yet, the engine should be comparable to the entry-level non-turbo engine found in the 2021 Seltos. Surprisingly, regarding fuel efficiency, the Seltos will still be the better performer.
