Waqaa. Good to see you guys. I’m setting beaver and otter traps here in Bethel. I believe I caught about 12 beavers so far in November and December. Most have been snared. Some in 330’s. Have only caught 2 otters so far. I’m also going to try my luck in wolf snaring. Great videos btw!

Tanana Yuut just curious. How are y’all setting up your wolf snares? Size of cable, and is it 7x7 or 1/19??
@tananayuut3 жыл бұрын
@@mosesjackson4203 good morning, we use a couple different ones. In the past, we've used 1x19 1/8 with #9 support wire with a pigtail. Recently I've made 1/8 7x7 using 26 gauge support hanging wire. The newest ones we are trying are from Ted's Fur Shed, 1x19 3/32 with Senneker kill spring and #9 support wire.

Little tip if you’d like to try. if you put the CD out in front of the cubby instead of inside of it it gives the lynx a better chance to see it and you’d be amazed how far you can pull a cat to your set. He’ll see the CD from farther away and because it’s in front and close to the cubby he’ll then commit and go for the bait. Good luck on the rest of season!
@bullwinkled7903 жыл бұрын
thanks - will keep it in mind. Our sets vary a bit depending on where we are setting - snow machine trail, meadow, forest, creek etc. I usually like to keep bait and attractors at eye level so cat can move forward and doesn't try and get his head up or down, particularly with snares. How about these outside cubby cd attractors, put em up a bit as they are long range attractor?
@austinross66523 жыл бұрын
@@bullwinkled790 exactly. High up so it’ll catch the cats eye and he’ll come to it then since it’s out front of the cubby he’ll notice that and is close enough to smell so then he’ll go in. I use snare support wire on a branch then put heavy poundage fishing line to that with a swivel to attach the cd. I’ll also put a sinker on the line as well so that the cd doesn’t flip and get tangled on the branch or anything from the wind. Hope to see how it works for you

I used to know of a trapper in in Michigan, he would boil his traps & snares in a broth of the local Spruce, Balsam , or Cedar , & then use nitrile gloves when doing his sets . If wearing mittens would never wear the same ones he used when handling anything else , always a separate pair for his sets , because all animals have an acute sense of smell !
@tananayuut3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we use the green or white cotton gloves that are designated wolf gloves.
@907trapping73 жыл бұрын
I have the perfect spot to try that glove trick, I'll make the set and add in the clip towards the end of my next video. I have been trying to think of a way to set this spot and I think that's gonna be the ticket!! Thanks for the idea!

I'm not a pro but you used your bare hand while holding the stick that you used put the lure in the pen which you left in the pen. 1:18 Don't you want to try and eliminate all human scent? I guess not as you touched everything in that pen with your bare hands. Who knows as I knew a guy who used to piss where ever even at some snares or traps while going after coyote. He did very well and I wonder if it helped or harmed his chances. He said he thought it didn't harm and even helped as a curiosity. He also trapped badger and did well with that also

wolves are the smartest animals in the bush, yet you use your bare hands to handle sticks that you put the lure paste on ... they'll smell your scent on that stick for weeks and never come near that bait
@tananayuut3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, I agree. Those sets with lure are lynx sets. We don’t use any lure for wolves. As you can see we use clean cotton gloves for each wolf trap and wolf snare.
