Jerome Kern "the father of American musical theatre" would have been proud of this very "Tight" Sant Andreu Jazz Band along with the "Pure Voice" of Alba Armengou and "Fabulous Tones" of Scott Hamilton performing one of his greatest hits of 1940's

Alba's low register just keeps getting stronger while upper tone gets clearer and clearer. The next 5 years will see Alba coming into her own as a great singer, as if she's not one already. Alba's English is so good now that no one would ever know it's not her first language. Go for it, Alba. Your trumpet playing is always a beautiful thing----let us keep hearing that.

Agreed... Such a tremendous delight to hear Alba sing these old jazz standards, particularly when she visits that lower register of hers. I wonder if she still sings these today or just mainly focuses on her other genre almost exclusively. I truly hope she will continue to revisit these standards from the 30s and 40s, even if not with a big band as Alba has such a gift!

Alba!!!, Scott!!!, and all the gang!!!. In the forties, Helen Forrest, Jack Jenny, and Artie Shaw had given a marvelous interpretation of this piece, even if restricted by the three minutes allowed by Shellac records. Now Alba, Scott, Chamorro, and the SAJB do it wonderfully being benefited by modern extended time.

San Andreu Jazz Band's performance of Jerome Kern's song (lyrics Oscar Hammerstein) is everything one could hope for. The young people in the band make us all so proud, and there is Scott Hamilton's solo, and Alba with vocals as evocative as Helen Forrest's. Truly I hope the European Community supports Joan Chamorro's school of many talents in Barcelona ... and I am looking on from Scotland.

Pretty rendition. Of one of the greatest songs ever written (not at all in this style, and yet the style works--a great song can stand up to variant interpretations). Always thank the musicians who keep songs like this alive. But never forget the people who gave them to us. Jerome Kern. Oscar Hammerstein II. Long gone. Still here. When a symphony orchestra plays Mozart or Beethoven, the composers are strongly highlighted. We have a tendency to take popular songs more lightly. As if they just appeared out of the blue. We should stop doing that.

@@mrleewins The Second. Who I mentioned in my post. But yes. I personally think Lorenz Hart was even better, but he never worked with Kern. Kern was interested, after Larry and Dick broke up, so to speak, but Larry was too far gone by then. One of the great What Ifs of popular songwriting, what those two might have done together. Jerome Kern was a sweet man, he'd have been kind to Hart, encouraged him. But the drinking was completely out of control by then. Do you ever wonder why Hart never married? I don't mean legally, but gay folks had longtime companions back then, nobody said anything about it, as long as they didn't frighten the horses, like horses care who we screw. He could have found somebody who loved him, on the QT. Basically everybody who knew him loved him, just not that way, because they couldn't, that way. He never talked about his surreptitious sex life, so why couldn't he have a love life, and never talk about it? "I'll Tell The Man In The Street." I'd go with Mary Cleere Haran's rendition. Explains it all. As great lyricsts do. Oscar, Larry, Irving, Cole, Ira, Johnny (Mercer or Burke), Dorothy (Fields)--the list goes on and on. Writing works for others to sing, usually to other people's music (Irving and Cole being the great exceptions), they captured emotions most of us have felt--or desperately want to--and they endure. Oscar and Larry both died fairly young, for different reasons. They will live on forever. For the same reason.
