2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season Animation

The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season ended up being the fourth costliest hurricane season on record, surpassing the damage seen by the previous year and its frenzy of storms. While it was undoubtedly less active than 2020, the ending of the naming list was once again reached with Ida being the most destructive of the season.
When Ida made landfall in Louisiana, it tied Hurricane Laura of 2020 and The Last Island Hurricane of 1856 in terms of the strongest storm by winds to hit the state. Damage was catastrophic not only there, but in the Northeast where massive flooding contributed to tens of billions of dollars in regards to damages. Sam would also go on to be one of few storms in the Atlantic to generate 50 ACE (accumulated cyclone energy) in the basin.

2021 was a weird hurricane season for me. I had been wanting to be a meteorologist since third grade, and in Fall of 2020, I bombed my Honors Physics class and ended up having to change majors. So this was the first hurricane season since 2009 where I didn't want to do meteorology. This season was up close and personal for me. Despite Elsa's center being over a hundred miles away from where I live down near the coast, we had a crazy amount of wind (probably 40-50 mph for several hours) and rain that made the only bridge off of the peninsula I work at that connected to the mainland impassable for 12 hours. We also had two tornado warnings in three hours, and I had only experienced a tornado warning twice before then. As always, I made my preseason projections, which this year were- 19 named storms 8 hurricanes 3 major hurricanes For the seventh straight hurricane season, I was more accurate than NOAA. My predictions were nowhere near as good as my near perfect 2017 prediction (I predicted 17 named storms, 10 hurricanes, 4 majors). I just wonder how I still participate in the meteorology community now that I'm not pursuing it as a career.

The tornado outbreak of January 2017 & Hurricane Michael of 2018 got me interested in meteorology. I got to experience 135mph+ winds from Hurricane Michael here in South Georgia. Ever since then I started tracking and documenting hurricanes.

Hurricane Ida had almost the same path as Katrina did back in 2005, but the difference is that Ida has caused torrential railfall in New York, which may share some characteristics with Superstorm Sandy

Very nice animation! I started tracking 2021 NATL thanks to Ida (not so much thanks for causing the devastation it did though). However 2021 proved to be a very interesting year having had 21 named storms and completing the naming list twice in a row, something never done before. I wonder what 2022 will bring this year and as always keep up the awesome animations

The only season in Atlantic that exhausted its List A names, but never went to auxiliary list. Off topic, but somehow related. Outside the Atlantic, there's a season for EPAC where it reached only Zeke and that is 1992.

Here in New Jersey we got Elsa, Fred, Henri, and Ida in 2021. All brought flooding but Ida was probably the worse. That was some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen. Ida was retired but Elsa, Fred, and Nicolas were all billion $ hurricanes not to get retired

Wow. What a season. This truly was one intruiging year to recap in the Atlantic. As while it was not a crazy as the previous, I would say that it is in the top 5 for sure. Thanks to F13 for providing coverage for everyone and potentially, saving lives. Ida was a storm to remember, and one that will not be forgotten for the next generation of humanity. 2021 was one of the scariest Ida was a cat 2 all the sudden a strong cat 4 heading towards Louisiana, Sam a Fish storm but a ACE monster, Larry also a ACE monster made a tropical cyclone landfall in Canada , 21 named storms when I predicted 16 named storms, 7 hurricanes, three majors , higher my expectations for this season ik its late but I just had to look back on this particular season.

Elsa is a storm I will never forget , thankfully it missed Trinidad and Tobago by a bit and went for Barbados Instead and The Damage There was wow but even though it missed us it didn't spare us the capital was completely flooded out the rains from Elsa was Ridiculous it was such a mess , Elsa let it go on us good yes .
