Quite possibly the best gasoline engine Ford makes today. These are heavily built motors. Definitely looks a little more obnoxious to get to than the F-150 I had, but skid plates do that. The F-150 takes 6 quarts. I highly doubt the use case in the Bronco is harsher than the F-150, but always check your dip stick. They do tend to put a decent amount of fuel in the oil, so I wouldn't recommend going much over 5,000 mile intervals, shorter if towing.

After watching this video I'd say if you don't change the oil yourself take it to the dealer. I couldn't bring myself to trust a quick oil change place to do it right. Then again I don't take my old 2004 F250 to those places either. With how long it took to drain and still left a quart somewhere (oil cooler and lines maybe?) you know most oil change places aren't going to wait beyond the time it takes the oil flow to slow down to a small stream. Not to mention I bet a lot of them aren't going to change the o-rings on the filter housing either.

Guess I've been out of the game working on Fords for a while. My last Ford product was in 1981. I have a Bronco on the way. Since when did Ford trucks get composite oil pans and plastic drain plugs? I am not saying these are bad it is just I know how long a metal pan and plug will last. I have no idea how long the composite lasts. I have a 2021 4Runner and it still has a metal pan and drain plug.
@EvilleTruck3 жыл бұрын
They have been using them in the F150's since at least 2018 if not before then in some of them. So it's at least not a new thing that hasn't been road tested for a few years already.
@timschultes64673 жыл бұрын
Also don’t check the dipstick right after you add oil it will give false readings. It takes over an hour for it to read correctly. The rule on the 2.7’s is add 6 quarts and forget it it’s perfect every time

Yeah only difference is the owners manual calls for 7 quarts for Bronco.. even though its 6 in every other 2.7 application, so not sure if there is a quart hiding somewhere or its a misprint or what.

ive seen many Broncos with the dip stick showing way over the fill mark, into the bend of the dip stick. Some are saying that the dip stick is wrong, some are saying that its being way over filled from the factory or during the dealers doing their check when the truck gets delivered.

All the Ford International engines used cartridge filters, except the 7.3 IDI, which never was at risk of oil starvation because it's so luggy. Mercedes, CAT, marine diesels, they all use cartridges because there's a better seat.

The 2.7L has reservoirs in the heads that retain oil for the start stop function to ensure the valvetrain is lubricated properly. It can take upwards of 15 minutes for those to drain. As far as I know, it is the only Ford motor that this design is present in.

Thanks for the 2.7L oil change demo. In case you wanted to just check the oil filter--do you think it is possible to check (take off/out) the oil filter without draining the oil first? or would oil go everywhere? Thanks!

You should be able to take filter out without any issue just let it set for a minute or two after opening it up to let any oil drain down and should be good to go.

Blitz makes a large shallow oil pan that looks like a very oversized cookie sheet that I use under my collection bucket. Stopped getting those annoying splash and drip marks. Good to see that the oil filter isn't a hassle to get at. My 2009 Volvo requires some serious contortions to get in and out. (it's also a Ford design as the original filter was a Motorcraft - Volvo was wholly owned by Ford during the end of the 00's and many of the cars of the time use Ford parts.) I try to use a rag to clean up the bottom of the oil filter recess. That is where stuff will fall that does not stay in the filter. Strange that you see a call for 7 quarts when all the other applications use 6 and 6 reaches the fill mark. I'm with you, I'd stick with 6. Cool that you don't end up dumping oil all over the chassis. I wish other manufacturers would think about such things. The oil you got on the cross member I think splashed from your hand in the initial plug removal. Using the old fryer oil container for waste oil is a great idea. My local DPW has a heater in their garage that burns used oil. They love me when I drop by with 6 5-gallon buckets of motor oil and tractor fluid.
