Hi Stuart. I have made some changes to your project. I have put LineageOS 19 (Android 12L) as the operating system, Sound Blaster g3 sound card (the sound has improved a lot due to the auxiliary input, in addition to all the audio modifications that can be made). And as home screen: Agama car launcher, along with: Guru Car launcher. And independent GPS U-blox7 connected directly to the Raspberry. In addition to the Autokit connection with Carplay and Android Auto. The result has left me satisfied. Greetings.

Hi Stuart. Brilliant mate. Can I just clarify, does this render the radio/multi-CD/inbuilt phone/AUX inoperative? Does it mean all the ICM3 buttons and steering wheel ICM3 controls are therefore redundant? Is there any way to retain FM & CD functionality? Nav & Phone functionality are replaced of course, but is the intention to use the Pie for DAB somehow, & to just stream music via Spotify or whatever? I’m in Northampton BTW…
@SaabUnleashed3 жыл бұрын
Martin, the full functionality of the original systems remain. The ICM3 itself is still intact, we've just removed the screen. CD player, radio, steering controls ect all still work. This unit works through the aux-in of the stock system, so you will lose the Aux socket - but you shouldn't need it any more anyway.

Why do you add bluetooth as it is built into the raspberry anyway?

Hey, for the screen in your link, did you use the AMOLED or the TFT panel? Which do you recommend?
@SaabUnleashed3 жыл бұрын
Get the TFT one, the AMOLED one is a nightmare to set up, plus OLED screen burns easier.

This really great stuff. The ICM 3 in my 2005 9-3 Convertible has more and more issues - the "normal" state is now that it doesn't start up but ends up in an endless restart loop :-( Has anyone recently implemented this interesting modification? I struggle to find the "shopping list" - have mailed Stu couple of times but never received a response so far.

Hello! Wonderful job - I am preparing to build my own. Two questions though: 1. What happens when you simply turn the engine off? Does Raspberry instantaneously "die"? If yes, isn't that a problem? 2. How does it act while driving at night? I mean, is there a built-in sensor in the screen that will automatically dim it? The same actually applies for driving on a very sunny day - is it possible to see anything with this TFT screen?
@SaabUnleashed3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. 1. Yes, the Pi dies the second the ignition power source is removed. It would be bad if it was running something that is constantly writing to the card, as it could cause corruption. As this is not the case, it is merely streaming remotely from your phone, it'll be fine. (And is fine, plenty of people are running it at this point) 2. There is no sensor I'm afraid, it won't automatically dim at night. The screen is visible during sunlight. There's a in-use video on my channel This is a basic custom job and you are free to add additional features to your own build should you want to

It doesn't matter. You're streaming from your phone, which takes barely any memory resources from the Pi. The 2gb will be fine

There's a few videos on how you can make Netflix work with Android Auto. Alternatively, you could just run Android off a computer and connect to this screen

@@stephanj5846 The actual ICM3 needs to actually function, although it doesn't matter if the screen is broken for some reason as you'll be swapping it out.
