Wow, that final rant really changed my perspective. I’m blown away that you’re my age and yet you have such a clear understanding of this whole system which can suck you in so easily. Your bit about how you shouldn’t dedicate your free time in high school to improving your resume seems so obvious, so I’m not sure why it took watching this video for me to get it.

So impressed with your self-reflection! I'm a Harvard and MIT grad, was an Aerospace Engineer for 3 years, and then dropped everything and moved to the jungle, where I learn and preserve natural building techniques that are disappearing. I currently live in a home made of clay, sand, and straw, which is highly beneficial for health although not as profittable for the construction industry since I built it myself from materials on my land. I'm grateful that I was able to step away from the illusion of prestige at a young age and stop the "chase" to nowhere. Retirement is an illusion. Many people will never get there. We have to live life now and define what "successful" means to each of us. I have more than I need living simply and have no regrets!

I'm european but i love watching these videos because i just can't grasp how college admissions are so important to americans. i'm going to the top university in belgium (which is also a global top 50 uni) without having to do a thing and without going into crippling dept as well . we literally only have entrance exams for art schools and medical and engineering majors. the us really has to fix their system

@Neo-tx9ok

@@arayasimms1607 European here. The fact is that, even if some faculties don't have an entrance exam, the courses during your first year are usually tough enough to do the "cut", allowing only the students that have the right preparation and motivation to continue their path, the others usually leave or change the field of study. I watch a lot of videos about US universities but I'm always amazed on how easy everything looks over there..maybe is just an impression 🤷‍♀️

asians have the lowest chance to get accepted to IVY league colleges also,some people are really hard on themselves,so even if they're doing exceptionally good in the eyes of others,they will never get the actual feeling of being happy UNLESS they achieved the standard set for themselves I was one of those kind of people. so please,don't be rude to someone who you don't know. Your essays must’ve been bomb. I can just tell by how you spoke at the end. You go bestie!! I honestly see why these colleges accepted you the sit-down at the end of the video... I was enlightened. This is one of my favorite videos on youtube. I loved the truth bomb at the end. People should stop obsessing over which college they & others are going to. It's all part of a system that is meant to fool us to value things that aren't worth our valuing. We don't need to feed the system. Go outside, play, do your own thing, be a human & live for yourself.

I just got into Columbia for grad school. Went to UCI for undergrad. I feel so differently going back to school again at 37 because this time it’s what I want to do not because my Azn parents had me oblige them. Your whole spiel at the end was an exercise in wordsmithing. And I totally agree with you on the enumerated points about elite colleges. I also resonate with your musings on happiness and life trajectories. I will have to watch again. Thanks for keeping it real and honest. wow. i absolutely loved your rant at the end. most college decision videos have a “talk” at the beginning where the person says that the college you go to doesn’t define you, and then proceeds to get into all of the ivies. i still 100% agree with this sentiment, but it’s somewhat frustrating because it’s so easy to say that when you got into prestigious schools that would “define” you as a respectable person on society. your talk was so real and described perfectly how i feel about the education system and America in general. i love that you recognized your privilege. i hope you do well wherever you go - stanford is my dream school!! xo, a rising senior scared to death about college apps :’)

Thank you for your insights at the end of the video. Honestly, it makes me feel better with how my mindset had me revolted whenever I do not reflect the aspirations for prestige. Additionally, your well evoked opinions are the kind of things that matter when we decide a path to take and not the Ivy League persona. It allows people like me, who focused on getting by be okay with focusing on what matters instead of building an acceptable resume, focus on real goals. Whoever accepts me is who I'll be glad for. :) P.S. With what greatness I see in your videos, I am not surprised with the acceptions. You are awesome!!

You’re ideas at the end are really eye opening. You have a really great perspective for someone your age. When I started college for the first time right out of high school, I had no idea what I was doing and public school definitely did not prepare me for what was to come. My mother is an immigrant from the Philippines who only has a 9th grade education, and my father, who was born and raised here in the US did not go to college, so neither parent understood what it took. On top of that, I was not born into money… my mom has never made even a living wage, and my father has been a car salesman all my life. All of these issues culminated into 1-2 stressful years of me trying to go to community college, all the while not understanding the resources I could have taken advantage of because no one told me. I wanted to do well, but I had no one around me to help. How is someone supposed to succeed when they, 1, have to ask questions, but 2, don’t even know the right questions to ask? I am 23 now. If someone had just pushed me in the right direction I would’ve potentially been done with school by now. When I was 18 I did not realize that had I just gotten a better SAT score and actually applied to a few schools that I might have gotten in. I had already reflected on this way before seeing your video, but it really resonates with me. I am now back in community college, with the goal of transferring to the best four year that my gpa will allow, without any personal limitation. I’ve also realized that my mindset had to change, and I’ve been at a job for the past 3 years where I’m surrounded by people with degrees who I can go to for advice, and I now consider myself lucky. Thanks for your wise words!

truly wish I'd been fortunate enough to watch this video when I was making similar decisions as you and wading headfirst into the whole "elite college" system... unfortunately I'm a year older than you 😔 but still, this was wonderful, and educational, and sums up the way I've come to feel after two years of college better than I ever could've myself. here's hoping the high schoolers who need to hear this get a chance to. peace and love and best of luck as you move forward--thanks for making these videos
