Looking at the comments, and it’s pretty much rodeo cousins vs old school tradish cousins. Getting onto a bucking bronco, or hopping onto a crazed bull are some of the ways we show off our bravery these days. Ranching outfits have practically turned into a new style of “tradition”. We have been interacting with all sorts of farm animals as soon as we were able to get our hands on them. They are now part of our lives. How many sheep/goat ranchers in the states? Cattle and horse keepers both in the north and the south. There are plenty of horse dances, so there must obviously be horse RIDERS to go with those dancing horses. No one is taking away the old ways, we are only adding new stories to our library of “oral and visual” history. Some people are grass dancers, hoop dancers, bear dancers, sun dancers, round dancers, story dancers, ceremony dancers, medicine dancers, competition dancers, dancing because you just want to get down and boogie! What’s wrong with bringing in a new style of dance, when our peoples are already too deep into the animal husbandry life?

How can this look like a ho-down when some of the very first cowboys were Indigenous? No hate, because I definitely see where you're coming from but this special allowed for these ladies to dance while wearing attire that is very important to them and perhaps even their family history. I don't imagine it will become a powwow staple anytime soon seeing as it's just a special, but a wonderful addition none the less.
