I got the VZ Edition since January and been loving it. Had a MK 7 Golf R before abs a Cupra Ateca, but I love this even more. I’m adding a 70bhp tuning box and replacing the exhaust with a Miltek Non-Res in a few weeks. Can’t wait .

Yip I’ve been on the lookout for something different …had a look at 4 or 5 different SUV manufacturers and don’t want to be yet another Range Rover Evoque on the road although I do like the look of them, so visited my local showroom on Sunday with the good lady and she was well impressed…….. so your review has greatly influenced my decision ….good review and insightful ….good luck with your channel and it looks like my mind is made up now 👍

Great review PP! This is on my shortlist for my next car, so very happy you've done this review, as its the exact model I'm looking at (vz2). Like you, I don't like the big stuck on ipad type screens. I much prefer integration. Slicker. Also, I don't like everything being done through the screen. Something to consider before ordering I guess. But like you, its nice that it's different. People stop and stare because they have no idea what it is. A little like subura imprezzas back in the 90s. It was in my shortlist of 4, and your review has cemented its place there 👍

Great review. I’m with you I like the car and as you say about the colour as a static display looks great to show the lines of the car. But to live with a nightmare never mind the £2000 it costs. I’m looking forward to the test of the electric modal.

Agree great car this one Ped - looks like Cupra could steal sales from the mighty Porsche franchise given the higher spec and lower cost. I can see Cupra becoming one of the top sports brand manufacturers especially after seeing the sensational electric car they have planned taking the boredom completely away from the VW ID range! Think Cupra have blend of styling spot on. Much more interesting than the average VAG product but not over the top. And competitively priced with nearly all extras as standard which would cost extra £5k on a VW or Audi. Like it.....

Cupra is launching here in Australia on July 20, 2022. I managed to snag a Launch Edition which will be delivered just after 20/7. Got to see a promotional model with the same paintwork as the one you drove. I didn't get to see it until after I'd placed the order. After your review, I'm glad I opted for the normal paint finish. Now all I need is to drive one. It was a big punt based on overseas reviews like yours. So far, so good.

How are you finding the Cupra thus far? Do you find it big enough as a compact SUV? We want to get one but have a baby that I’m not sure if there’s enough room for.

@@michaelyang3910 - The space is fine for me. But there are only two of us. But talking to other owners, there's certainly enough room in the boot for a buggy and all of the other baby stuff that one needs to carry around. The back seat area is huge - roomier than my previous Audi Q5. So there is ample room for a forward or rear-facing baby capsule or baby seat. I have the VZx which is around 430 litres room. You get slightly more in the VZ and slightly less in the VZe. So yeah, I think it's certainly big enough if you have one baby and perhaps a toddler.

Got mine vz2 four weeks ago really like it. Think your review was excellent as covered all the main elements of what like to own. Yes people ask on daily basis what it is. Coming out of a golf r only thing I would add is paintwork quality not as good as vw, noticed a few surface scratches already and front tyre noise greater , but that said far more comfortable suspension settings. Definitely recommend and the lease deals are very competitive.

I've ordered this exact spec and colour with a sunroof. I've already prepared myself to keep a microfibre cloth at the ready as the matte paint does sure attract dust. Delivery will be just before Christmas. i can't wait. I've yet to see one on the road yet, so i'm sure it will get some attention. In Australia these are the very first Cupra's sold here.

Just ordered one in black Pete. Wanted the Matt blue to match my Yamaha Tracer 900. Yes it’s hard to keep clean. Getting the VZ2 to keep under £40k and less annual VED. There are some good lease deals by the way. Most under £390pm for 2 or 3 year deals with £8k. I’m giving up a Merc C63 and don’t feel I’m taking a step down. Great review, thanks! Having reached the time of life when the joints are starting to creak and entry / egress more tricky, I've been researching a replacement for my lovely Audi TTS, (also, my grandchildren are now too tall to fit in the tiny back seat). After much debate I plumped for the Formentor VZ3 in Petrol Blue and have been so pleased with it - your review is spot on but I have to disagree with the comments on this paint choice. I was more concerned about how white bird poo might really show up against the matt finish - it's not really a problem though and as for visible dust deposits, it's no worse, in fact it's better than a high gloss surface; water streaks on the A post is definitely not a worry! I certainly agree with you that the complicated infotainment screen a) takes some learning and b) is tricky if not dangerous to operate on the move but I've yet to find it frustrating - don't forget that several systems are capable of being voice operated. That said, the excellent system as used in BMW's would be much better. I love everything about this car - great head-turning looks, very comfortable and satisfyingly quick!

Just did a test drive of the VZ2 Hybrid (245). The dealer didn't need to say anything - the car sold itself in the 30 minutes I had to test it! It's like a better value VW in nearly every way, and also unlike the VW's, also has a bit of character.

I am currently looking for a new company car and narrowed it down to the XC40 R Design, Tiguan R line or Formentor VZ2. At the min the Cupra is winning purely down to how well spec’d it is! The only concern for me is boot space. Hopefully a see it in the flesh will help make the final decision

Been waiting on this review, have had the Formentor on my list for a few months now, unfortunately not the 310p.s. But recently test drove the 1.5 150 V2 model, very impressive to drive even in that spec! Just got to find the right deal now! Keep up the good work and a review of the lower spec cars probably helps sales more than £40k dreams.

@@tomstringer3951 good to know, not a deal buster but it has been nice to have on last 3 cars! Local dealers have mostly top end stuff and a few V1’s going to give it a few months to see what filters through, if the deal works I may consider a V2 190 4x4 but that’s really pushing the boat out!

I have a VZ edition, which did indeed have issues with the infotainment system. There has just been a recall to update it and all seems well now. Fingers Crossed. Great review by the way.

Hi everyone hope all are well and safe! Sir Pete I’m just gonna point something out the audio of this video seemed off until about the time you were in the car and had your sweatshirt on. It sound much better from that point on. Not sure why but I noticed it. But other then that audio quality change this video was fantastic! Your review was definitely from the heart and not forced and you genuinely seemed to enjoy and be intrigued by the cupra. Very nicely done. What a cool looking car. I agree with that badging. Nice looking car. Ive seen a couple locally (or it could be the same one doing the rounds). I do like the paintwork but like you it would drive me nuts at the end of the day with all the dust and ming (is that the technical term). Nice performance , but not a fan of no buttons at all. I think the move away from them to all touch screen for everything is an excellent way of taking your concentration away from the driving. Have seen a few articles re the Cupra Born the all electric version due out in the next year or so. Looks interesting, Great review Pete.

I’m so glad you like it, Pete! I ordered a Formentor last month. Not this engine, but the plug-in hybrid. The drive train will be a bit of a gamble for me, but I’m really looking forward to it. Even the big touchscreen! I’ve got about 3 more weeks to wait (I was very lucky with my order), so I’ll have an early 212 plate.

All the reviews are good on this car…I would delete the flat paint because I think it will soon get to look a real mess but maybe a higher spec with a sunroof would be better still. It has more interest than a Golf which just looks dated with a poor image. Only the badges look a bit rough and too much Primark! I think the flat screen and fake noise do kill it for me…the fake noise on a friends Aston Martin is much worse though!! One to remember! Stay safe, Richard🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

I just configured the Cupra Ateca VZ2 with either Black or Velvet Red paint £43k. I've driven the Ateca manual but every one of the Cupra seems to be DSG.

Looks like a well planted car , shame about that screen , to distracting changing settings but as for it’s looks and performance it’s so much more interesting than it’s competitors. , the paintwork option they can keep as there will be to much stress keeping it perfect . On the whole a nice car , and great to have good real living review . Pan roof would certainly make living in the back of it much nicer . Well done Cupra Nice one Pedro 👍🍺

The gloss paint skirts are so you can T cut them if you get stone chips. You cannot TCut a Matt paint

Hi Ped We seem to be on the same wavelength on so many features.😉 Love the styling, could not live with that paint work. Agree “piped sound effects” rubbish, another one of those stick on IPad screens😬. However good to see Cupar challenging the establishment, guess I have always supported the individual approach. If the ICE had a longer lifespan, the Cupra could well be a force to be reckoned with in its sector.

Hi Pete very good review, it would be interesting to get an idea of Cupra's reliability and also i would imagine the depreciation on this car would be epic! I fully agree on the current trend of car manufacturers putting all the controls on a touch pad, aside from being fiddly they are also down right dangerous. All the car reviews keep pointing this out as do the public in the comments section yet still the manufacturers insist on continuing with this approach - Why

Well, in the end of February 2023 my lease on the beautiful Mini JCW Clubman is coming to an end. So ive orderd a Cupra Formentor VZ2 :) delivery in May, hopefully :D wroom wroom!

As a very happy owner of a 2015 Porsche Boxster S, I can’t fit my Bianchi Oltre XR4 into into it ( yes thanks to Cycling Sunday, I have indulged !), this may br the perfect car for me. I’ve owned several Golf GTis and am familiar teeth the way they move. Not sure about that matt paint. It will have to be gloss. Thanks for r the review.

The car looks great and drives really well but I agree about the paint choice, I couldn't live with it either as I would have to be washing it all of the time.

seems all VW products have dug themselves a hole with the switch to touch screen/capacitive controls....wander how long it will be before they shift back a little like some other brands have. Sounds like a good package for our times though...and as you said if you like the package it may be the best one, if not there are other options ...PS its copper not bronze...
