Dell’s 2021 refresh of the XPS 15 (model 9510) bring Intel 11th gen CPUs, up to NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti graphics and an absolutely striking 3.5K OLED touch screen. The laptop is also available with full HD+ and 4k+ IPS 500 nit displays. All are 16:10 aspect ratio with Dell’s signature barely there bezels. The XPS 15 uses 45 watt CPUs with your choice of a Core i5,Core i7 or Core i9. It has Killer Wi-Fi 6, quad stereo speakers, a fingerprint scanner + Windows Hello IR camera and a large MS Precision trackpad. As ever this is a unibody aluminum laptop in your choice of Arctic White with woven white interior or silver with black carbon fiber interior.

For those of you guys planning on buying the Dell XPS 15, I'll give you my experience over the past 5 months of using this laptop. I needed a new laptop to study mechanical engineering in university. I was deciding between the Macbook Pro with the M1 chip or the Dell XPS 15. But after reading and watching hundreds of reviews online about how XPS 15 and Mac are basically the same, XPS is better for gaming, and how Mac is bad for ME, I decided to get the Dell XPS 15 in March. PROS. - The laptop arrived three weeks after I ordered it-- It was estimated to take 5 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived two weeks early. - The keys are extremely satisfying to press--which allowed me to get a lot of work done simply because I was addicted to tapping the keys. - The screen is very wide and filling--allows you to focus on everything you are working on. - Battery life--I could watch twitch streams for 6 hours straight and the laptop would still have around 55~60% (from 100%). - Dongle. USB and HDMI dongle included with the laptop. CONS. - The trackpad. Every time I left-click using the trackpad, it feels as though the bottom of the trackpad is getting stuck to some type of glue and once I lift my finger off the trackpad, the trackpad lifts off the glue and leaves this distasteful sound. I found this problem straight from when I unboxed the laptop. - 2 weeks after purchasing the XPS 15, the screen started having issues. If you divide the screen into 4 sections, the bottom right side has a constant noticeable flickering. I tried doing everything to fix it but it just wouldn't go away. Every single time the laptop goes into sleep mode or I shut it off and reboot it, this same problem persists. After awhile, I simply gave up and started ignoring the flickering. (Only thing I have noticed that helps is plugging in the charger and using the device for one or two hours and the flickering gradually fades away.) - Screen freezes every now and then. This has occurred around once a week for every week since March--when I first got the XPS 15. - In-built camera. Very crummy resolution. - Ports+dongles. There is a high-pitched whirring sound that does not go away if a dongle is plugged in. This problem does not persist if there is no dongle. However, as a ME student and gamer, I almost always use a mouse that is connected to the laptop. - Speakers/sound system produce momentary static if I use them for the first time of the day. -Customer service. Basically inexistent. I moved to a different country (for university) after buying the laptop, and Dell told me that I couldn't get any help if I wasn't in the country it was delivered to. Even with the warranty, I am basically guaranteed nothing. - League of Legends Gaming. The bottom half of the entire screen lags hard. It wasn't there for the first couple of weeks, but after 1 month, the entire bottom half of the screen momentarily freezes and unfreezes--constantly throughout the game. This persists until I connect the charger. Overall, I would say the majority of problems I have had with the computer is hardware related. Considering the price of the Dell XPS 15, I would trade it in for a Macbook Pro in a heartbeat and invest a bit more money in a company that has a much more reliable product and will actually help in solving problems related to their products. For its price, the XPS 15 is NOT WORTH. I expected a MUCH better device with close to no hardware problems. I Literally went two times higher than my dedicated budget and spent almost 2 years of savings (around $2400 with tax+extra for shipping) for this laptop. For students who are on a budget--like I was--, I would recommend a Samsung device. Before the XPS 15, I used the Samsung notebook 9 (~$1,200) for 6 years. Games (Wizard101, League of Legends, Fortnite) worked perfectly on my Samsung device for all 6 years. All the workload that my Dell seems to be unable to handle worked unbelievably smoothly on my Samsung device. Good luck choosing a device everyone.

I bought this exact model but with 1TB SSD $2399 Best Buy.... I added a second SSD Gen 4 and get 7000read and 5000 write speeds now and upgraded to 32GB ram. Very happy with the computer all around pretty much perfect. The only issue so far is it seems VERY easy to ding up with all the sharp edges, I don't know how but I have many dings already and it stays on the desktop mostly. Also when using in clamshell it seems to open up about 1/2" apparently there isnt a magnet to keep it closed... Kind of annoying. But to have a really strong computer like this that can actually game for my gaming needs, Very nice screen, good for video edit and has sd card slot I will take a couple flaws

I have lenovo X1 yoga with OLED gen 1. Had to transition to a Dell for IT support at my work. It's a core i7, 32 gB RAM and 2 TB HD. I'm happy with it. Compared to lenovo, there's no comparison to a lenovo keyboard but I use a bluetooth keyboard and have external monitors. Not a tank like a lenovo but seems reasonably built. I wish it had more ports and personally don't need a SD card slot. The weight is reasonable. Didn't go with OLED screen on this one as I care about battery life and use externals. I was thinking about getting the lenovo extreme gen 4 but didn't for the aforementioned reasons. Lisa, can you do a smackdown between the lenovo extreme gen 4 and this dell XPS 15?

I'm not entirely sold on the OLED model. Colours are oversaturated OOB, making colour management in Windows a nightmare. Calibrating the display with proper hardware and software only fixes the problem within colour managed apps. Everything else is still oversaturated. This is mostly a Windows issue and not Dell's fault completely. However, I think the problem could be solved if Dell would offer a version that is just sRGB instead of the current wide-gamut version. Really, the ideal would be that Microsoft gets their shit together. Most people use their OS, so it would be nice to see them actually give a shit for once.

I tested it with our Spyder Elite colorimeter at 100% and 50% brightness, and the color accuracy was similar. Given it's only a 389 nit panel, I personally wouldn't run it lower than 50% for photo or video editing.

I had one XPS 15 a couple years ago, never again. DPC latency that made pretty much any live A/V impossible, they bait and switched by forcing lower power limits on the GPU in BIOS updates, and Dell's massacring of sleep behavior continues to create unacceptable instability.

Forgot about the S3 sacrifice debacle in my comment! Absolutely unforgivable by Microsoft and Dell (and whoever else succumbed to the 'modern standby' nonsense). My 8yr old laptop can properly sleep in S3 with FAR less battery drain than my XPS 9500 - and only takes perhaps 1s more to wake up. How they got away with massacring this previously perfect functionality, and replacing it with problem-riddled trash, is beyond me.

This laptop is a sleeper. I got one at a very good price on ebay. with just a little cosmetic imperfections, very slight. Actually, i like the keyboad. I normally do not like short travel, but this one feels good. It does not get really hot while pushing it hard on cool or optimus mode while playing games. I get between 40 and 50, sometimes more on the latest games, and aolid 60 on my favorite, Destiny 2. Playing on cloud with good framerates too. it is a ideal size, fans or quiet. unless you have ultra performance, and then they get failry loud, which I don't see a need to go that route I actually do not have anything negative to say about this laptop. It is a deal in 2024, unless you hare a hard core gameer. The battery life is also solid with almost 8 hours of normall use.

The keyboard feel is one thing, but the layout is also worthy of note. In my opinion, Dell really dropped the ball here: Home/End is shared with F11/F12. Page keys are combined with cursor keys. If you work with big files (documents, spreadsheets, code, whathaveyou) and use the navigation keys a lot, you won't like this keyboard!

I'm still not sure OLED is durable enough for use with a computer that is going to have static parts of the display. TVs are generally fine as people tend to watch videos on them (and no one who cares watches stuff with watermarks). Phones are generally fine as people switch apps/pages in apps often. The status bar is small and generally doesn't show different static images. General purpose computers have quite a lot of static parts of the image.

The speakers are totally trash. I had two 9510 both went back to Dell due to distortion and crackling while playing piano sounds or windows notification sounds. Also the laptop is heavily laggy when you turn on HDR in Windows. It's impossible to play HDR 4k videos in KZbin without lag. Additionally i had color banding with the display. Beware of Dell QA Issues! You also get high pitched sounds once fans have high rpm and you use it on your lap. If Dell sent this over I suspect it was checked extensively for flaws so probably not realistic as to what consumers end up getting sadly? My experience has been bad hence my move to Apple and other OEMs.

These issues are still there. I have returned two 9510. Both had speakers issues and color banding with 4k HDR display. Also it was unusable to watch 4k HDR video at KZbin due to dropped frames and therefore lags.

The "deals" dell has on their site for xps rn are worse than the sales they had mid summer. Trust me, ive been checked at least every two weeks bc i REALLY want one, but im quite literally poor so Im keeping a close eye on the price fluctuations

Demand outstripping supply in the laptop space, no need for regular discount to drive sales, also windows 11 is round the corner. I wouldn’t expect discounts now until Black Friday and likely will be small.

Would be nice to know if any of these non gaming laptops w/ dGPUs have a way to bypass Optimus (via USB-C/Thunderbolt/dedicated HDMI/DP) and if those ports support adaptive sync/g sync/ freesync

Sorry. I don't care how expensive it is to produce an OLED thin and light. Having a 720p camera on such expensive laptops in 2020 is absolutely bullshit.

I have a very bad experience with XPS 15. I spent 4k on the laptop, and the motherboard was changed 3 times within 13 months. It's overheating all the time, and the computer switches on itself, so I'm waking up with a fan at full speed and the computer burning. It was used only for office jobs, PS and AI. Dell didn't help either with their customer service based in India, with babies crying in the background. Nah, never again.
