Although I’m a F-550 guy, great RV!! And I’m going to pre-empt a few comments that always surface on coaches like this: “That’s not a 4x4 - you can’t take that off-road with that huge rear overhang!!” #1 - if that’s what you’re looking for, go ahead and spend 3x-6x as much for an EarthRoamer. I’ve never thought of taking an RV up the Rubicon Trail... And #2 - if you’ve ever been caught up in a snowstorm in the Tehachapi or through Flagstaff, you’ll appreciate 4wd. Clearance is secondary in the real world, folks...

It was originally designed and built with the suggestion of DeMartini RV. They have a lot of people that boon-dock and take their dune buggies out. No, this RV is not going on the Rubicon trail...but that was never the point. The point was to be able to get off the road, maybe onto grass, or sand or snow. We have been building the 30FW in 4x4 for longer now and it has been successful doing just what it was intended for. I actually had a customer recently tell us they saw an earth roamer stuck in the mud. So I'm not even sure that 6x the money can get you an RV that can handle the Rubicon trail.

Bobex63 agree. 99% of 4x4 vehicle owners never truly off-road. They use 4wd for snow, wet grass, boat launch ramp, etc.

My thor omni sv34 4x4 allows me to snowboard in Colorado for an entire month and never use chains or get stuck. When I'm in Glamis and I can't get a spot at 1 of the gecko pads I am able to pull into the sand and not get stuck. I just air down and the way I go.

It's not a gas tank, it's a diesel fuel tank. Diesel fuel has a flash point >140 degrees. What's the problem?

As I surf for RV info, this has ticked most of my boxes! In fact the best so far! A few improvements to be made, and they have been noted by other commenters (storage, insulation etc.) I’m going 3/4 time! (the three worst winter months will be spent in our “in-law” suite at our daughters - which will serve as our mailing address to circumvent some Canadian regulations/laws that make “full timing” all but impossible in Canada. Our touring range will largely be British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho, so a four wheel drive will be essential. Also, as we are “older” now - having to large, comfortable and separate sleeping spaces is also essential (I’d keep my poor wife up all night with my snoring and fidgeting!) I’m selling the family house, so I’ll have ample budget for this rig and a decade of touring! By then, I figure that life will be restricted to the “in-law”suite so we’ll sell the rig and live off our small pensions. Life is “do-able” so roll the dice and “do” it! Peace

Best review of this explorer on KZbin. Love the rolling motion shots, wish we could see more of that. For people with a steep driveway like me though, i don’t think something like this would work. The rear end would scrape and probably get stuck. Is there an air lift that can raise the rear independently of the front to get more clearance? Wish there was a way to know how steep of an uphill driveway something like this could go up safely starting from a flat road. Great video!

Beautiful rig. Have you guys considered offering an adjustable Kelderman air bag suspension as an option? That coupled with slightly more aggressive tires would make this a serious option for overlanding. You could even take it a step further and dove tail the rear cargo compartment for a better departure angle. Throw in a Road Armor bumper and you have one hell of an all terrain package. This RV is definitely on my short list.

I'm loving the exterior. RV manufacturers really need to start thinking about younger, more contemporary customers. The only thing missing is a good off road package, with a lift kit and a set of meaty tires. The interior is still a bit "old person". The bathroom is nice though.

It baffles me why the wiring is so sloppy in the inverter bay. They should take a look at the wiring panel on a yacht. Perfectly laid out and secure is the standard in the ABYC world. It might take a skilled technician an extra hour to trim the wires to size and route and tie them properly. For a rig north of 200k, they should take the incentive to stand out in the rather half ass world of RV construction.

I normally scroll through the exterior tour,but this one is a very nice looking unit,gone with the white and horrible paint jobs,plus the interior is a nice mix of colour,most RVs up your way,use dark woods,too much dark wood. Glad to see you have gone the other way,only thing that i didn't like,is the double bed in back,this is the only RV i have seen,that has down sized the bed,it's great for one person of course. Everyone saying they rather a ford chassis never experienced the new rams every one I know that had a ford says that they will be switching to ram just give the chassis a try and you won’t regret it the only downside is the mpg of the ram is worse by a slight bit but power is way better and I think power and torque matters in a big RV like this you’re never gonna get good mpg in any mobile home and the DEF fluid lasts a lot longer in the ram

It will help to get on the beach and BLM. If you are smarter than the tires it will be helpful. You could put air bags in it to lift for off road if you need. but it is not a rock crawler.

I feel that it was set up wrong from the factory. I like the look of it and the platform. The exterior storage foil lining and wire bank looks a bit unfinished. The dinette and bunk wall upholstery also looks poorly constructed bunching in places it shouldn't leaves question about longevity and quality where you can't see it. Otherwise, nice rig.

About $175k. They are way too low to the ground. In some places they have less than 12". They need "Ujoint" to give it a lift.

I dig this one for sure, I've been looking at class c motorhomes and a lot of them have that cheesy siding that in time will start delaminating, and anyone that has paid a big price for one of these, that is a definite drawback. I am a Mopar guy, and this one with the diesel is the way to go, it's cool that it is 4x4 too. I'm going to start looking for a used one of these, maybe a little longer one.

What is an outdoorsy customer? Even someone that wants to go on the beach will appreciate the ability to drive out easier. It is not going on a jeep trail but would be nice in the BLM where many vehicles get stuck when it rains. Are you nervous or thinking to far ahead? You seem to know all of what you are saying but need to keep pausing and think. Don't get me wrong I would not be able to do it. You provide very good information like the cargo weight. There is seat belts on both sides of the dinette right? Hope you and the young lady stay safe and healthy.
