When I feel discouraged because my housework is taking a long time (due to my children needing me), I try to remind myself of this quote by C.S. Lewis: “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” 🤗

I don't make resolutions but I do make a list of intentions. It is a list of words that I focus on for the year. Some words are with me all year and some are just for a season or moment in time. Most of the words help me as I continue to work on my relationship with Jesus and others are to remind me to stay on track with my personal goals for the year.

In ireland the decorations stay til the 6th. We know it as little christmas or nollaig na mban(womens christmas in english). As well as it being the feast day, it was traditionally the day that the mothers got off and were treated by their families or womens Christmas. It was then considered bad luck to light the tree on the 7th or later.

...I loved reading that comment. since I know about that in Ireland ( I am Irish) and also because I have always left my own Christmas decor up until Jan 16th...the reason being that my youngest daughters BD is on Jan 15th, so it became a tradition from the time she was 1 year of age, to leave that up for her Birthday, which was a delight to a child :)

Oh honey, I so don’t miss those years. I’m tired just watching you and thinking back to those very hectic years of when my babies were little, who are now 40 and 42 Ha. I didn’t work outside of the home for all their life and always felt like people thought I was a princess and sat and watched tv all day, as you know the work of keeping a home and caring for the children never stops. I remember going to bed shortly after they did from pure exhaustion.ha...I think all mothers should get an award for all their years of hard work. 😇 That is why today I always compliment young moms when I see them lovely caring for their children and their homes.,like yourself. I so wish they had. U tube videos like yours back in my day, so I knew It wasn’t just me feeling overwhelmed. So glad other young moms get to watch you do such a great job and help them along the way. God bless you and your family 💕💕

I am going to focus on me this year. Not that I don’t normally, But I have a lot of self hate issues. I have depression and suicidal idealization, due to a lot of factors, one of which being a very difficult to control disease. This year I am going to practice self kindness, I plan on exercising more and reading more and doing more of what I love and what is good for my body. As a newly professed christian I am going to Start attending a church (if we can) & Reading my Bible every day to give my heart peace.

We always keep Christmas decor up until mid-January and then have a big bonfire where friends get together and burn our Christmas trees (in our neighborhood we all get real ones). It's a pretty epic bonfire and a great way to see all our friends again after we've all been around family for the holidays! It's a fun tradition going on three years now! As for the new year, I'm going for a big promotion at work! I'm excited and really nervous too!

For us, pre-Christmas is Advent and the Christmas season starts the 24th. We are still in full swing!! I can't imagine taking things down so early. We open a gift each day for all 12 days of Christmas and keep the tree up as long as it lasts. It is a new clean/simplified feeling once decor is down though, for sure, bittersweet for me.

The decluttering change that most resonates with me is how intentional my life has become since we've been simplifying. We are not minimalist, but have the new habit of keeping only what we truly use or love. Because I have less to manage, I can be the Nan who bakes cookies with our boyos, the one with time for lots of reading and cuddles, the one who can ease the burdens of my daughters work at home time needs. Our lives are enriched by this simpler lifestyle.

Thank you for the motivation! I don’t have kids, and I fully understand the different needs between children and a pet, but I have a dog under 2 and sometimes in doing cleaning marathons I have to walk her and play with her and take breaks in cleaning, showing that it isn’t the most important thing. My goals for this year are to become more minimalist along with being more zero waste. So rather than getting rid of the extra shampoo I have, I’m going to completely use it up and I am very excited about it!

🧹 So I didn't get any cleaning done while watching this but I have already taken down all my Christmas decor except the tree. It would have been down before New Years Day but my husband likes the twinkle of the lights especially in the mornings. So I have arriving tomorrow some small LED light string to drape on our mantel for the rest of the winter. Mondays are usually my cleaning and geocery day, but today I decided to give it a try to make a menu for the entire month and also shop our usual 4 stores for the entire month (with the exception of things we will get fresh weekly). It was a long day!

I think I have two thoughts I keep coming back too when thinking about going more minimal; what about hobbies (books, board games & sewing are our big three) or I guess anything where you do want a larger collection that genuinely gets used? Then what about the big sentimental items like bridesmaids dresses? (We've had our homemade dried oranges for about 4 years now and still no mould!)
@NatalieBennett4 жыл бұрын
The wonderful thing about Minimalism is that there are no rules. It would be silly for me personally to keep every bridesmaids dress and board game because those things don't mean as much to me as they do to you. But I guarantee you I have more camera and filming equipment for my video making than you do. It makes sense for me to keep a larger collection of these things because it's such a priority for me, whereas what YOU choose to keep looks way different! It's all about holding on to the things we actually love and use!

I'm working to "stream lining" our house. Coming from a hoarding background, it's difficult, but drawer by drawer, I'm getting through it. I'm getting rid of some, organizing some, but it's a process. I can't get rid of all the sanitizers, right? They are in the same place now, not all over the place. I'm also thinking of donating some to the schools, because I know they'll need them. I have the spray, the gel, and the wipes. My daughter has been gifted some, because she's a small business owner, but I'm making progress.

🧹 I'm starting the flyladys baby steps in 2021! I'm decluttering my kitchen today. That's awesome there is a January decluttering challenge. I would like to incorporate it in!

Thanks Natalie. Your videos always cheer me up on a gloomy day. Most likely to enter another lockdown tonight in England. Necessary but totally fed up of it. Thanks for bringing some positivity x

I always like to decorate and clean the house for my family even though if the house is dirty we clean it and thus the decorations in the time when it is a holiday we decorate it like a birthday party.
