Good point on ignoring the mess when decluttering - the mess is actually the items that we are currently using! The hidden unworn, unused stuff is what needs to be dug out and moved along to those in need (or to the bin) right?

A great way to get out oil stains on laundry (even if they've already been washed and dried!) is to use a dab of dish soap on the spot and then top it with a little bit of baking soda. Rub the two into the spot just enough to mix them, then let them sit until you're ready to launder - I've done anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days. It works like a charm!

I am so enjoying these de-cluttering, organizing playlists that Dawn decided to have you KZbinrs join her in doing. I'm an older (75 years) lady who has lived here in this house for 52 years...having raised our 4 children here. Believe me...I am in the process of de-cluttering and reorganizing everything. I watched this video on my computer in my craft studio. I had to giggle because in the last couple of minutes of your video, you asked "Alexa...how many minutes do I have left on my timer?" And my Alexa in the next room told me she didn't have a timer set!! Lol. Had to laugh out loud. Thanks for doing this video. Even though most of you in this wonderful playlist thing are young and with young children, your ideas and thoughts have impacted many of my decisions. I realize that my 4 adult kids...all married with children and grandchildren of their own...DO NOT want MY stuff!!! So I'm donating it or throwing it. I have decided after listening to the input of ALL of you, that I cannot have guilty feelings about getting rid of stuff...nor can I let memories linger while storing all this stuff. I'm taking pictures and then getting rid. All of my kids own their own homes which are much larger than mine and have no problem getting rid of their own stuff!!! None of them have much clutter. (Well...perhaps a garage or two!!) And I have several grandchildren who own their homes and some of them have asked me about these YT videos that I'm watching. Some of them have no clutter and a few have a lot of it. So, the domino effect is taking place when they come to visit and see what I've done. Again...thanks so much for taking the time to share all of this with us. EDITED TO ADD: I know I've rambled a bit, but I wanted to let you know the freedom I'm feeling from doing all of this. I have a craft studio upstairs here and a sewing room downstairs. I make cards, scrapbooks, albums, and do vinyl and sublimation projects and lots and lots of sewing projects. I have had so little motivation because I'm overwhelmed with the clutter accumulating here and there. Now that I've begun to declutter, I feel so liberated and creative. Before, I felt guilty if I took time to create while there was so much STUFF taking unnecessary space. It seemed to clutter not only physical space but mental space also. Thanks again!!

I really like your idea of natural timers. I also listen to podcasts while cleaning but hadn't thought to use them as a timer--that's such a good idea! My biggest "problem" is on the weekends when I want to go through my cleaning routine, I end up getting carried away and spending hours cleaning. I enjoy it in the moment but come the next weekend, I'm thinking to myself "ugh do I really want to spend 5 hours cleaning?" Restricting myself to a time limit seems like a better idea to not burn myself out. 💕

Impressive amount of stuff you identified for getting rid of! The time pressure seemed to help you. This was certainly the case when my friend told me that she was having a garage sale in an hour for charity and wanted me to see if I had anything to donate. The time pressure combined with my asking myself if I felt 'a hard yes' for something (keep) or a maybe (get rid of it) really helped me get rid of tons of stuff. And I don't regret getting rid of this stuff. It feels good to know that a charity benefited from my discards. Beyond getting rid of stuff, I have been working on my day-to-day habits. My 'mantra' has become: If it only takes a minute to do it, do it now. And I can't believe how 'picked up' my place is now.
@jjfield62103 жыл бұрын
Your minimalism series has been such an inspiration to me lately. My husband and I relocated for a job 8 years ago and we are in a very rural area. Trips to the local grocery store are 30-45 minutes depending on the town we pick and Aldi or Sam's trips are almost 2 hours. We've gotten in the habit of buying up a ton of stuff to carry us through till the next trip. Then life happens and you don't use all the stuff you bought but you still get more next trip. Now we have been extra blessed to be moving back home where our kids and grandkids are. In this transition period we are staying with my MIL till our house sells so we have one bedroom for our stuff and a very tiny fridge. But, it's in the city so I can go shopping every day if I need to! 😂 As we are emptying out our house for sale and ultimate final move we have come across so much stuff that we never used and is just now wasted. Honestly, probably a few thousand dollars worth of "things." And food that was buried at the bottom of the deep freeze and turned an awful color. This has been such an eye-opening experience for future spending and buying and your series has been a huge help in what we actually can let go of and not be without. Thank you! ❤

Since working from home I have a bag or box or both in my car (in attached garage) that I I fill as I go...t shirts, dress shoes, potato peeler, etc. all in one go. I fold on top of washer dryer. I’m looking for pantry organization for bulk nuts and dried fruits. It’s a work in progress.

Very good tip. It is so easy to get distracted by little chores that constantly come up when trying to concentrate on decluttering. Staying focused on the decluttering goal is main objective. The housework is always there and can be quickly caught up on after.

Loving this series Natalie! You are an inspiration to so many! I love that you put a time limit on it - speed decluttering 😂I talk about cleaning and decluttering in the "in between moments" because people are always turned off by how much time they THINK they need to reserve to declutter and then they don't do it because they feel intimidated. so setting a start and end time is genius! 10 mins here and there truly adds up!

Natalie. I just want to say, I am so glad that I found you through the Wads. I have been watching you since then and since that time I have decluttered my closets of clothes (7 big black bags to Goodwill) and now I have started paperwork. Let me just say only through D and I already have a bag of shredded paper. I think what you enlighten me the most on that this can be done in chunks. I know the last time I did a major declutter to paperwork was about 5 years ago and have been dreading it since because before I wouldn’t allow just small chunks of time to tackle in smaller batches. It took me about 4 days of a couple hours of work to do the closets but I did a deep dive and I can say loving the end results which is my plan for the paperwork too. I work at home and spend most of my time in my office would love to have it organized for function and a process to keep it that way that isn’t so overwhelming. Again thank you for your inspiration! I am putting it to use.😂

My newest decluttering strategy.. (You can do with any category of items) I started with my closet that i completely emptied and had everything set out on a hanging rack ect.. and then i 'shopped' my own items. You can imagine each piece of clothing costs $10 and see if you would re-buy it. Give yourself a budget! It helps to show which pieces you actually really like and value. If you wouldn't re-buy it, chances are you will never use that piece again.
