Couldn't agree more about your opinion of cold foils being rare. It's such a letdown to pull a "rare" card that isn't actually all that rare. I think LSS did a great thing by making 1st edition boxes special with cold foils but making unlimited affordable and mass printed for players to not get stuck behind collectors and scalpers.

@@OTHERVERSETCG The dude likely never played it. It’s fun, very back-and-forth, can’t brick because of how cards work, and it gets very strategic as you set up later turns via pitching (cards discarded to pay costs are returned to the bottom of the deck).

Actually “Timmy” doesn’t apply to you in this regard. A Timmy is someone who spends his money unwisely because he thinks he is making a great investment and/or fears he is missing out. You like this for the game itself... which is great Imo. You should be able to pick up all the older stuff for pretty cheap next year.

@@josephozturk3288 There are too many variables to consider why the prices are high. First and formost the limited number of 1st edition boxes which is the only way to get the cold foils which will never be reprinted with the same art at least ever again. Cold foils are estimated between 500-600 printed for each card printed as a cold foil. Second issue is investors bought into big positions of the first edition removing the supply and raising the price. There are limited suppliers of the game worldwide especially in the USA. Supply for all card games is down across the board for one reason or another. The people who want to play the game are buying the unlimited boxes between $100-$150 when they are available which $100 is about right. Even if some of the cards are in a bubble i still believe the sealed first edition boxes are priced correctly if not undervalued.

My LGS is selling all the 1st edition single boxes of Monarch at ebay prices, all my Local Gaming (card trading) Stores have pre-pre-pre sold their whole supply, I had no chance of even getting 1 single 1st Edition box... as well as the unlimited boxes are also higher than MSRP due to limited supply... I feel very unsatisfied, lets hope things change for the better in the near future for the over average collector/card game player... Future for me is not looking very bright...

yep unlimited have rainbow foils still decent but the unlimited is meant to be use for playing the game. So they had to separate it somehow so they added cold foils to first edition only.
