I feel like these car reviewers see so many amazing interiors that they get stuck on them and don’t realize that for the majority of us this type of interior is pretty awesome. I don’t need a Tesla that’s all barren and futuristicly bland. I want something that’s durable and can hold up with some wear and tear. That’s why these midsize truck interiors don’t need to be super luxurious because I don’t have to worry about tearing up any leather or scuffing any phoplastic marble side plates.

Hi Justen, Thanks for taking the time to comment. I hear what you’re saying 100%, but the bottom line is that you can have both today, as shown by Ford’s own F-150, which has a much nicer cabin even in lower trims. To your point, durability is important, and a lot of the materials here look and feel cheap, including plastics that are prone to scratching. That’s not what I’d consider particularly durable. Ford can do better. Indeed, virtually the entire midsize truck class can, and should, too - especially when you’re talking about trucks that are often $40k and above. Though I was not able to afford the 4x4, I did get the 2020 ford ranger XLT and so far I am loving it. My first truck was a 93 Ranger XLT..4x2 manual transmission and had it for 20 years....it had so many miles it went passed its analog capability on the odometer..lol

Love my 2021 Ranger Tremor. Although haven't done much off-road, the day-to-day driveablility is very good. Good power and very quiet for a 4x4 on the highway. I like it better than my 2016 Taco.

Just purchased a 2021 Ranger Tremor lariat. I've been driving trucks my whole life, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota and Ford. I don't get the disappointment with the interior as it looks better then any previous truck I've owned or driven. Everyone I've given rides to have also commented on how nice it is. Oh well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess lol. Nice video looking forward to more ranger content.

My biggest problem with the midsized truck market is the price. Buying a well equipped half ton for nearly the same price makes more sense to me.

Sure, if you are trying to get work done, go for a half ton. But, if you are following Wranglers down off road trails, a half ton's size can feel like a disadvantage. An F-150 is a lot bigger than a Wrangler. Also, being able to fit in smaller residential garages, actually pushes a lot of people toward midsize trucks.

Depends what you use it for. Midsize trucks are great for off roading smaller tighter trails being smaller narrower and more nimble and agile. Being on mountain shelf roads, I wouldn’t want a full size truck on there. A big reason why the tacoma, 4runner, and wrangler and the most popular off roading/overlanding rigs since you can go anywhere and fit anywhere. If you aren’t going on super tight trails or shelf roads then yeah a full size truck is way better and more comfortable but I prefer midsize trucks and SUV’s since the trails I go on are mad tight. But I do agree they are way too expensive. They should all be 5,000-10,000 cheaper. The gladiator and wrangler can go for 70,000!!! I would never pay that for a damn Jeep. I’m a toyota guy and even the trd pros are expensive but I can swallow that price for the reliability and longevity but the trd pros can be around 47,000-50,000

@@STEALTH1USA Yup. Just picked up a 21 Ranger Tremor with Lariat trim and it was nearly 50k OTD. A similarly configured F-150 was about 64k. Since I run work now I have no need for a large truck and the size of this Ranger is perfect for me especially when navigating around the big city. I've put about 2600 miles on it and so far I've had no cause for regret. Great truck.

I have owned a '91 extra cab, a '94 Splash, and a '95 extra cab.....I have owned two full size crew cab pickups, but now that I don't work construction and my kids drive themselves, a mid-size makes sense for a much as I need a pickup. I am liking the new Ranger crew cab, so it's definitely one to consider after being happy with my past Rangers

Agreed! In fairness, it's about an hour outside of Detroit, but it's a great addition to the area, and it's actually much closer to my house than that. Previously, we'd have to make the schlep to Bundy Hill or further, and you'd eat up a lot of wheelin' time just in the drive to and fro. It's a great development for off-road enthusiasts in Michigan -- and it's a pretty nice testing and event space for all the automakers here, too.

I just purchased the 21 Ranger Tremor in Cactus Grey and it does look pretty badass, especially now that I've seen the redesigned front end of the 22. I prefer the sleeker look rather than the "muscular" boxy look with enormous grills (looking at you 22 Tundra) that everyone seems to be heading towards.

Why? You can buy a Ford Performance package that gives the Ranger 320 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque for $825 from a dealer and have it installed to retain factory warranty. Those are V8 numbers. In fact they are better than V8 numbers, for instance, up until 2020 Toyota's 4.6L V8 that came standard in the Tundra only offered 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque. Part # M-9603-REB

Using the fuelly app I’m getting 24.6mpg avg in my 2022 Lariat Tremor. That’s 65/35 split Hiway/city driving. These are amazing trucks. Yes the interior is dated. But still very usable tech. No regrets here. And fuel economy if you keep it at 55-70 is amazing. Best in class by far.

Had a 2016 Tacoma TRD and a 2018 Tundra Offroad; had issues with both of them. I think Toyota legendary reliability and quality is slipping. My brothers Tundra had engine seal failures at 84,000 miles. Traded my Tundra for a 2021 Ranger Tremor. So far, love the Ford but too early to assess overall quality.

Dude I got one the engine seized in less then 250 miles because oil and fuel mixed in intake manifold seized the pistons broke the crankcase suoerr heated the turbos which blew the whole motor. I was a statistic for highway driving

Not going to lie, I like the additions to the Ranger Tremor. I bought a 21 F250 Tremor and the changes to the Ranger seem better. Pretty sure my shocks are just painted red w/ a Tremor sticker. And my wheels are just the chrome wheels painted black w/ a slightly larger tire. So basically, I might have paid extra for a couple of stickers :(

I own an F150 XLT and have been considering a Ranger. Im as much about specs as I am about visuals. I wasn't really feeling the Ranger as its general shape is reminiscent of the Chevy Colorado (shudder). If the front end were more of a mini F150 or just meaner looking i might be more attracted. But then I watched this video and that grill and paint scheme got me thinking maybe I need a Tremor. Im fine with the interior. Main concern inside is head and knee room. Been looking at the Maverick which doesnt compare. But theres something about its grill. Put that grill on a Ranger Ill bite. Great review!!

One thing that has always held me back from buying a pickup is that for what they cost they cheap the hell out of the interior. I just can’t see paying $45 to $50k and still not getting quality on the interior basically forcing you to pay around 70k to get it. Pickup buyers should be demanding more for their money but theses automakers know they can charge these outrageous prices because more than any other type of buyer pickup owners are brand loyal and will buy no matter what.

I just buy used. Depreciation was my friend when I bought in 2019 a 2016 F150 Platinum with 94k miles for $30k. Have a local mechanic inspect it and make a deal.

@@foford2010 I agree with buying used and all but a couple of cars I've bought were used. My current car sold new for roughly 45k and when I bought it, it was two years old and was able to get it for 24k. However, even getting a two or three year old pickup doesn't change the cheap interior. I own a midsize SUV and if I got it new at 45k it came with leather seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, heated side mirrors, remote start a panoramic sunroof and not much cheap phatic. However for the same price with the same automaker the midsize pickup still had cloth seats, a cheap steering wheel, no heated or cooled seats, cheap plastic all over the place, not even an option for a regular sunroof and no remote start. Personally I have no issues with having less features and cheaper interior I just have a problem with these automakers charging a premium price on pickups for low quality material.

Trucks and SUVs are "in" these days with gas prices under $3. Until then Automakers see no need to cut the MSRP. The Auto industry makes their money from service and parts not necessarily from the vehicle sale. Another thing is inflation brings everything up in price.

Why does the Tremor have 30 less horses than the ZR2? ...and many have complained about the ZR2 NOT having enough power...ZR2 is hard to compete with but I love the look of the Tremor, it's interior looks great and it has a little more than the FX4. I wouldn't be rock climbing though I love the auto-cruise and the tires are a deal maker for me. I give the Tremor a thumbs up and would love to own one having had a 2001 and 2003 Ranger!

Hi Dennis, thanks for taking the time to comment. Keep in mind that torque is way more important than horsepower, especially when it comes to off-roading and towing. Despite the ZR2’s hp advantage, the Ranger’s superior torque - available from lower down in the rev range, peaking at 3,000 rpm - makes it feel burlier and more eager in virtually all conditions. The naturally aspirated V6 in the ZR2 has to spin to 4,000 rpm to get to its lower torque peak (275), which makes everything feel slightly more lethargic. Now, I do like the ZR2 better in certain other areas (front locker, seat comfort, etc.), but my advise is to not get too hung up on the horsepower difference. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I ordered the lariat with B&O sound. Also getting the Roush exhaust and for performance tuner. The ONLY two things I’m missing out is Sync 4 and a black headliner. But I’m moving from an 07 Fusion SEL and this is a nice upgrade. Most things are in the same spots as my wife’s 12 Focus. So it’s more of the same but different approach.

I really enjoyed this review of the Ranger. I could not agree more with your assessment of the interior and its options and appointments (or lack of). I currently drive a 19 Ranger Lariat FX 4 and I like this truck that I would love it if FORD appointed the Lariat with more comfort. I am older now and the comfort and convenience suits me. Still I want the Tremor because I like it and it's a fun vehicle. I would like to get the performance upgrade. Is this truck available? I have asked for pricing and got no response from several dealers. Thanks again for a great review.. One more thing, the Ranger is IMO the best looking truck out there, bar none.

No. Only the ranger raptor can do that. Unfortunately it’s still not available in the USA. If it ever gets here it will dominate the midsize truck class.

It comes with far better and fairly larger tires from the factory than the TRD Pro as well. Payload and Towing capacities are significantly better on the Ranger. 300 lbs extra payload and 700 lbs more for towing. The Ranger Tremor does directly compete with the TRD Pro and competes very well. If the Ranger Raptor came to the States, it would probably be the end all, be all for mid size off road pickups.

@@Jerlemi2 what? The Ranger Raptor is much more capable than the TRD pro. The TRD Pro is essentially what this is, just made by Toyota and an added front camera. The Raptor has more power, suspension tuned for the fast stuff, beefed up components, and is much wider. Completely different animal.

ZR2 and TRD Pro are the only competitors and both of those trucks USED are currently more expensive than a new tremor. And personally, I’d pick the Tremor due to the modern engine compared to the Tacoma, and the reliability of the Ecoboost compared to the Chevy’s V6. I think this ranger is sort of a steal nowadays. Plus, Ford in general seems to be pretty damn reliable in modern times. Can’t really think of a bad vehicle they’ve made recently.

Fair question, but considering where the truck and SUV market is going -- even Ford with its own F-150 and Bronco -- it's possible to have both nicer materials and better durability at the same time. Frankly, the flimsy plastics in the Ranger are quite scratch-prone in my experience. Your point about durability first is well taken, but pretty much every other vehicle segment shows that you can eat your cake and have it, too.

Ok Ford give this a more aggressive baby F250 front end. Make LED headlights standard. Upgrade the interior and hold the line on that high ass price tag. Those changes will make this by far best in class and it will fly off the dealer lots!!

It's actually a great question, which would we buy in our own individual situation. For me, it would be hard to pass up the manual option in the TRD off road for ~$38k, but the Tremor package here doesn't compromise payload and towing. We do tow with an 2014 Ford F-150, so this would be a nice replacement for that vehicle that my wife dailies and I'll take the manual Tacoma for my daily then :).

That old '99 Ranger was a badass little truck. I had a '93 and an '05 and both were problem free machines. I'm not sure if I would buy this turbo-charged version though.

Ford did a great job on the F150. The Ranger needs an interior upgrade yesterday. I'll check out the 2022 Nissan Frontier.

Why does everybody keep saying this?! F 150 XLT interiors are still the same type of plastics (hard and softer) as this ranger, just a newer shape.

@@adamharris2674 I've only seen on KZbin. I l like the dash, infotainment, the seats, doors, console..... RAM is probably a step better. GM is 5 years behind and I am a Corvette/GM owner. So comparing Ranger, Canyon, and Colorado, they all such on the interior. (for now)

Fords package options. XLT come with halogens. Lariat and above come LED. I have complained to Ford for years about there packages.

Your wish will shortly come true -- at least partially. Hyundai's production Santa Cruz pickup should be shown this year. That said, it'll be a unibody, not a body-on-frame pickup, so it likely will appeal to different buyers than this Ranger Tremor. Hope this helps.
