Review of the all new 2021 Haibike AllMtn 7 ebike. 160mm travel, Fox Factory, Yamaha PWX2 based electric mountain bike
For 2021 Haibike have totally rebuilt the AllMtn. New frame, geometry and design. It's incredible value for money at £5599 and you get a LOT of bike for your money!
DISCLAIMER: HAIBIKE paid for me to produce this video. This has allowed me to work with The Bike Pilot to film, capture and produce the video. In no way did HAIBIKE have any control or influence over the video, narrative or final content. I will always try to highlight positive aspects and let you know of anything that doesn't work correctly, or seems not great quality. I believe that being open and honest is important. As brands now have direct access to YOU, my loyal audience via my channel, you deserve to know all the good stuff and bad stuff about the products I'm testing!

DISLIKES: bugs me to see “dislikes” on content produced by this guy. From his shots, narration, experience, content, flow etc, it’s all produced extremely well, for free to you. It’s not directly sponsored. The amount of work it takes to produce a video like this, takes more than just time. The dislikes are just ignorant of that reality. Rob I recently got into E MTB after loosing my best friend 25 years ago when he hit my rear tire when we were doing a downhill in the Irish mountains. Your channel and others like Kyles are a delight to watch in a sport / hobby that is exploding.

yes Rob makes the best videos about e-bikes, by a big margin, and is also a nice guy (from what i experienced). the dislikes must be about the bike, or just about any e-bike, or even bikes in general, some frustrated car owners or pedestrians ?

Great video. Thanks. Please also notice that what you see as something you don’t like much could be seen as a great feature by others. For example that ultra instant assistance of the motor as soon as you push the pedal it’s something I have always loved from the Yamaha unit. It makes those steep difficult restarts much easier. Then also, as you mentioned, the Yamaha motor has the racing motorbike heritage on its programming, so that’s what it’s so reactive and maybe less smooth that others but, who buys R6 doesn’t want a boring cruiser! I’ve got brose, Yamaha and bosh at home and, as much as I like the smooth and quietness of the Brose, I definitely enjoy the crispness of the more racy Yamaha. Thanks again.

Thanks Antonio. I also like the immediate delivery of power you get from the motor. But many other brands also do this just as well but without that twitchiness that you get. It just needs to be refined a bit, in my opinion. For example, the Bosch Gen 4 is absolutely immediate in the power delivery and helps getting started on super steep climbs 👍👍

About time. The Yamaha Haibikes looked like they were being phased out since 2018 and I'm so glad to see them being developed again. My 2018 AllMTN 8.0 has been nothing but incredible and super reliable. Whilst everyone was whinging about their Steps, Brose and Bosch's the past couple of years, I couldn't understand why Yamaha wasn't even getting a mention. As for the "eager puppy" "it just wants to go" effect. I love it! but if you don't, just press the down button a few times to no power mode whilst you're resting. That eager puppy makes steep hill starts a breeze in Eco or standard mode. Great review as always Rob and shout out to Haibike for experimenting but not being afraid to go back. They nailed it with this spec.

Indeed, I run the Yamaha PWX on my sidecar full suspension mountain bike where both driver and passenger pedal without any issues for more than one and a half year now. Changing gear in time, it is well capable of driving the total weight of 220 kg uphill. The extra push when starting is something I particularly like about the Yamaha engine for our heavy-weight sidecar. However, it is consuming fuel! On relatively flat, yet rather technical tracks in the Netherlands (Rijssen, Lochem, Hellendoorn) we empty a 500 Wh battery within 16 km...

Got this motor in my Giant Reign and it's well good. Sheeple are really sleeping on this motor and i don't now why. Yamaha are massive motox/superbikes hell they even built the engine in the Lexus LFA. rode 47miles in Active mode and still had 3 bars left in 4 hours 12 mins. all with 500wh. people going out in turbo mode and getting 15-20 miles then complaining it's not enough really need to earn there smiles per miles. but then again most of the country are work shy.

Haven't tried the Yamaha motor, but I like the natural way that a Shimano motor fades in the power when you start pedalling, it feels very natural, almost undetectable, as compared to the Bosch which jumps in hard when you start pedalling making it harder to control on a hill start, IMO. Sounds like the Yamaha is a bit like the Shimano in that respect. What's your opinion? Wider power/cadence range definitely appeals, the Shimano is quite temperamental on that score.

I think you're being a bit critical of the Yamaha motor - I find the instant power is a feature, working seamlessly with your leg muscles when you push the crank down to take off up hill. Instant power is awesome!! I've done over 8000km on my Giant Fathom E+2 Pro that uses PW-X (previous Yamaha motor version) and it has so far shown flawless reliability. Motor reliability and lifespan is top of my list when I shop for my next ebike.

Any normal person that will fit the XL will, with riding kit, exceed 96kg. This issue has been a common factor for at least the last couple of years now and Haibike, like Focus, have failed to address it. Roll on the new Kona 29er in September with 136kg rider weight limit. I like the Yamaha system a lot and have experience of several Haibikes. Currently I own (and love) a 2019 Canyon Spectral:ON with Shimano E8000 system. I have to disagree with you about the amount of torque. I like the feature that you only get max torque on extra power mode. This suite my style of riding well, I can pop the power mode up while climbing, should I find the need more power. However, I'd much prefer having an app, where the rider could set the assist levels himself. I do agree that especially on EXPW starting up can be a bit sketchy, but one gets used to it - and I learned to drop the assist level down for that reason. I also agree that the display and switch unit is a bit cumbersome and not the most ergonomic. In fact, I much preferred the older style units, that they had a few years back in the PW-X first versions. Anyway, the bike looks great and the specs are spot on.

If it's post warranty $1200 every two years for a new motor.... yeah okay. It's just all the reports of 30 days, 6 months 2-3 motors in a year. Not specifically Haibike but seems to be across all EMTBs. (Set me straight if there's a near bullet proof EMTB. I don't mean you can smash it hard. Anything used extreme will break (or is a barbell or stone.) Nice review. Thanks for being straight up in the description "HAIBIKE paid for me to produce this video."

We didn't do a full range test, but the 600wh battery seems to be up there with the 625/700wh batteries. Possibly more. Yamaha claim the motor uses the battery more efficiently and from the initial tests, they seem to be correct. The Yamaha Motor feedback from the previous iteration has been they are very reliable. I don't know about the warranty I'm afraid. Industry standard is 2 years on motor and battery. The frame and build seems to be very burly, and has been designed to handle the winter. It certainly seems to be excellently engineered. There's no perfect bike that won't ever break but this seems pretty bullet proof from the brief time we've both spent on it..

@@TheBikePilot Thanks for the in depth answer. I was about to buy a Specialized and then found all these accounts of broken motors. I've got pretty strong legs and know that I can sometime really torque my cranks, drive train - I've broken more than a few chains. On the other side of that I'm in my 60s and I have no intention of boulder hopping or hammering down any ski runs. This Haibike does look pretty great. At some point I'm just going to have to do it.

I think emtb is in its infancy, still a lot to sort out. The trouble is people who have had bad experiences are more likely to post than those who have had no issues, find a forum for any ebike make and you will find loads of issues. The only two critical things are motor and frame , everything else is just components. It's a ridiculous amount of money to pay, but that's the price of entry. All my Moto X buddies have ebikes and their KTM s gather dust, because you can go more places (for now). The only reason I went for an ebike is a year of lockdown, saved so much money not commuting, and realistically no prospect of holiday abroad this year with covid. Ebikes have many flaws but they are fun, I think in another 10yrs they will be dialled, like the enduro bikes are now.

Really like this bike, I have a haibike sduro trekking which is very good.. Stock is the issue with all bikes at the moment so I hope to find once available again. What I find difficult to understand with the EMTB new ranges is that a bike for 4500/5000 has aluminium frame and fairly budget suspension/spec -but if you spend that little more the spec seems so much more premium for not alot of money..

Hi Rob, great vid, the bike looks fantastic especially in that colour. Price is spot on what a bike for the money. Might as well adjust that fork to a 170. The only negatives, these bike companies put all that effort into the bike geometry and spec. Then the motor company’s seem to let them down with little negatives like the most important part of the bike motors. IE Bosh amazing motor but that clunking sound. Yamaha with that extra power only on the full power mode The horrible control display. Put it in the top tube out of the way. It’s like you have to weight for another year to get each problem sorted for the next year. To save time Rob you need to get a job testing any new motor coming out before the production. If you can work out all these niggles in one ride what does it say. No one can be doing this. The communication between bike brand, motor brand. Who says yes that motor is perfect we will put in our bikes. i know it’s a new market ebikes, but I think keep them simple. I think now Specilized have the perfect motor and battery out there for 2021 now the motors have been fixed. 700whr, that’s all you need. Can’t wait to see what Shimano do with there motor.

Rob -thoroughly enjoy your channel. Thank you for all you produce on eMTB bikes and topics. I only have a cheapo fat tire ebike at the moment which has been fun for sure but I want to pull the trigger on a real machine soon. Haibike's 2020 Allmtn 2.0 is a contender on my list but now this 2021 really is, as you say, outstanding -definitely giving the Turbo Levo Comp something to worry about. I truly hope it will be sold in the US. One small concern I have, however, is the carbon REAR triangle. In my research on emtb bikes I have come across a few riders saying to stay away from carbon rears because they have experienced cracking or other damage they don't experience with aluminum rears. I'm curious to know what you feel on the subject seeing that this bike is all carbon. Again, thank you for your reviews - they are invaluable.

Excellent review, I’m intrigued to know more about the mullet setup and its advantages I have a 2020 Levo comp and I do think it is overwheeled at the back end relative to the early model, it may be in my head, but I feel a giroscopic effect when doing fast hard turns, not to mention the greater mud clearance issues with a 29er rear wheel. That said I am being picky as everything else is great. Having come over from motorbikes, I do think there’s something in a mullet set up... any chance of an in-depth feature... why some companies have gone mullet and why others sit on the other side of the argument, you could do some good interviews

Hey Rob, great Video again, thanks. But you forgot to mention the allowed users weight again. Its the biggest con in my opinion, cause the systemweight is at 120KG again. So the driver including clothes and backpack may only weight around 95 Kilogram. So a lot of people arent able to buy this bike again. When you and other tester´s/reviewer´s wont mention it, the industrie wont fix it! So pls do always mention it in pros and cons, if a bike doesnt allow tall/heavy people to ride it.

HI Florian, thanks for your feedback. I did actually speak with Haibike about this exact point. Currently its rated to 120KG, BUT, they are waiting for certification for a part on the bike that will hopefully be taking it to 150Kg. That certification just is not ready yet. Obviously its not guaranteed that it will make it, but I remember them feeling positive about the fact it should do. They have rated it for 120KG for now, hopefully it'll be updated ti 150KG soon if it passes. Thanks, Rob.

@fantasticjourney
@fantasticjourney 4 жыл бұрын
The flyon seems to have an awesome range, but it has a pretty bad one even with 630Wh. The reason: it uses a 48 volt connection, where Yamaha, Shimano, Bosch... are having a 36 Volt connection. Ive been driving a Flyon for the last 900km and tbh I prefer bikes like this one. More than 60km are not possible with the flyon. This one should make 100+ km.

seems like great value for money, and i like the all out ebike design of the haibikes, but i can't understand why anyone still makes a frame where the battery drops out, instead of sliding out like on a Levo, that makes such a big difference when designing the frame, it's a no for me. and the battery isn't 700wh or more, also hard to understand. i also don't understand why those motor builders insist on their creation to be so visible, it's ugly, and frankly i don't want to see the brand of my motor, i want to forget that i'm using one.
