Hi Ronny, professional wrench & truck mechanic here. Remember that UCAs also correct your camber (not just castor) for a lifted truck, even if you didn't want to fit larger tyres it is HIGHLY recommended that you fit them regardless.

Hi Ronnie. I have a 2015 Foton Tunland which pretty much runs Hilux/Prado chassis/suspension. I do mostly beach driving so I really don't need or want to much in the way of mods. I've put standard size AT's on as an upgrade from the standard HT's, roof bars for an awning and tube for fishing rods, fibreglass canopy and a couple of driving lights. I came with the towbar and nudge bar and that's about all I need. In the back I have a small Engel fridge, portable power pack and a box of various recovery gear. I have had the front suspension changed to a set of standard Hilux springs and shocks as the Foton fronts do sag over time. Pretty much a stock vehicle as it came and that's all I think you need for what I do. A couple of engine bay mods to that needed to be done to sort out some drivability issues I had but no chips and exhaust mods. You are correct in saying that you don't need much to go 4wding. Unless your going to do anything extreme. I'm 60 and been around 4wd's since I was 15 so pretty much been and done. Love the vids and the great down to earth info.

Put a hitch receiver on the front of the truck vs. the steel bumper with permanent winch. Put the winch on a a portable winch cradle. Deploy the winch via the front or rear hitch receiver when needed. Mount the portable winch in the bed of the truck. That would save a ton of weight hanging off the front and the heavy winch would be centrally located for good weight distribution.

Hey Ronny, You should make your way to Iceland sometime. We modify our trucks a lot more extensively. Not saying better or worse as that is terrain related. We modify our trucks for snow wheeling and crossing glaciers. We do minimal lift and cut into the body amongst other things to fit the larger tires. We run a Tacoma on 44" tires with about 6cm body lift. Used to run 38" tires with no body lift. Our lightest vehicles like the Jimny are running 33" to 35" tires. The mid size like the Hilux, Tacoma, Patrol and Land Cruisers are running 38" to 44" tires. Then there are some extreme mods with those vehicels running 46" tires. Then there are the Rams, the f350's on 46"to 54" tires. One is experimenting a 58" tires. The same minds and modification technique is being used on the South Pole. An icelandic company called Arctic Trucks is somewhat in the forefront on those builds outside of Iceland. I also stress to mention that all these vehicles are made to be street legal, at least according to our road laws, and we do make sure that they are safe on the road as well.

Just touching on legalities on this now Ronny as you have increased the diameter of the tyres by 55.6mm and lifted it 40mm comes to a total of 67.8mm of lift which makes it illegal in the eyes of the W.A police and with the big focus on 4wds at the moment with yellow stickers I'm interested in what you're doing to make it legal again will you be getting it engineered?

Hey Ronny, Does the On-track Fabrications body mount chop and compliance plate allow more lift? The WA limit is 50mm and this is the sum of lift and tyres. 50mm (2inches) of suspension lift plus another 28mm of increased ride height (over the standard Hilux tyre) from these awesome RAZR MT's makes a total of 78mm lift. Being a West Aussie I know this is a nanny state and the rules here suck, but isn't keeping this rig legal part of the whole process?

Ground clearance makes a huge difference offroad. If I had to choose between bigger tires and the lift, though - I would go for the tires every time. Because it also makes a bigger footprint and it climbs obstacles better.

Great video Ronny! At around 11:10 I see you mention how the UCAs correct caster, but isn't the camber correction the main reason to have them in a IFS? I normally hear more about the need for caster correction when lifting solid axle systems, because if the radius arms remain the same they will have this effect of "pulling" the wheels back a little with a lift. Also, how far can you go on the tyres/suspension upgrade without having to do the body chops? Could it work with your previous setup, 31.5 inch tyres w/ OME BP-51?
