But too many idiots on the road nowadays. Stay safe ! Edit : I couldn’t stand it ! Too many videos like this got to me. I drove 3.5 hours to a dealership and purchased a new 2021 Ardent Red Goldwing. I have a 2018 tour DCT (RED) that I bought at the end of 18, virtually drove it home and it snowed the next day. I never had a passenger on the back, always drive alone so the larger trunk is not such a big deal for me. However, if I was buying one now I would go for the 2021. I do like the red / black combination, but not enough to start all over again. 👍GREAT VIDEO!!

Someone posted a comment that they'll skip the DCT models because they "like the clutch." I rode manual transmission cars and motorcycles since I was 14 in the 60's. And I never considered anything else. But then I discovered sports cars with dual clutch transmissions that were faster than their manual transmission models. Golf GTI, Golf R, Audi S models, and now Ferrari, Porsche, and, yes, even the iconic American sports car, the Corvette. So, if you THINK you "like the clutch", could it be that what you really like is to do the shifting, in other words, to have control over shifting?. You see, if you "like the clutch," the DCT has two of 'em. The difference is that you just don't need to operate them! 😃 But, if you want to do the shift yourself, just move your thumb over to the paddle shifters. I've been riding Honda DCTs (the NC models) for 5 years and, frankly, I'll never go back to standard. To be honest, I would never have even tried it if I had not had the experience of driving a sports car with a dual clutch tranny and paddle shifters. But once convinced in performance cars, it wasn't such a leap to try it in motorcycles.

I’ve had my 2020 manual model since August. After delivery, i took it out for a trip to central Michigan, with only 100 miles on the clocks. The fuel mapping has been improved, as has the suspension. A huge improvement over my 2018 model, which rolled up 40,000 miles in 2 years. Thanks for the virtual test ride..... I’ll be actively searching for the trunk kit, hoping it becomes available soon, and swap it for the smaller trunk on the 2020! 🏍🏍🏍

Thank you very much Cruiseman for the fine impression of the 2021. I own a 2018 myself, and am annoyed by the small trunk. The 2021 is a great update on that subject. One thing I am wondering about is the exhaust noise. I mean the “drone” resonance between 2000 to 2500 rpm. Has this, in your experience, been addressed in the 2021? Because of the resonance drone I always use racing earplugs. I want to ride and glide without annoying exhaust sounds. Thanks also for your very informative maintennce video’s. Paul - Thelasman

I wonder if you actually "like the clutch" or, perhaps what you really like, is the control over when to shift up and down. You see, in fact, the DCT has two clutches. You just don't need to operate them! 😃 If you want to control when it shifts, just flick the button to "manual" and use the paddle shifters. I've been riding Honda DCTs (the NC models) for 5 years and, frankly, I'll never go back to standard. @@RevJay_Rides Different strokes for different folks. Cool that Honda offers their DCT bikes in both the traditional single clutch manually operated version and the dual clutch automatically operated version. I wish they would add the DCT option to their smaller, "starter" bikes, like the Rebel 300 and 500. It might help more young people to try riding motorcycles. Nowadays, by the time a kid can afford a bike, he or she is already in their 20s and still haven't learned how to operate a clutch. So its double intimidating to start riding bikes.

Just picked up the 2021 DCT Tour model in Black Metallic. Due to availability, I was leaning towards the red/black paint scheme until I saw them side-by-side. What moved me towards the Black Metallic scheme was how well everything blended together. To me, the black plastic components on the red/black scheme stick out and it makes those panels/covers very noticeable and to me, cheapens the look. Or maybe I was just looking for an excuse not to buy a red bike...lol. Anyway, the first mod will be a new bigger, tinted windscreen. That should tie it all together and provide better protection. Keep up the great work on the videos!

I'll have to view one next to mine to see if I like the look of it. It looks a little too big, but then again, cameras add a few pounds, Right? That said, I think a trunk should be for luggage, not helmets. I wished they had a better locking system for the helmet(s) though. Any suggestions for a better helmet lock/holder? I see some people complain on the suspention , I live and ride in Norway, the roads here are in general much poorer than thoose in the US but I dont have any suspention issues with my 21 DCT airbag, neither does a friend of mine with a 2018 model. Perhaps because we only use Tour and Sport mode here when we ride ?

Good video. I have a 2003 Goldwing. I've always thought the one thing I'd like to see change is having removable luggage. But that'll probably never happen. There are times I just don't want the extra bulk or times when I'd like the extra space that removable luggage can have. There is so much wasted space in the Goldwing luggage. Especially the panniers.

CM, great vid. I'm with you on chrome mufflers. I know that chrome don't get you home, but it looks sooo much better. Don't care for the Airbag. It adds more stuff to take off to change the air filter..

I have a 2018 and have no issues with it's storage capacity, I find the new trunk looking too large for the bike but obviously it's look is subjective and everyone will see it differently. I do agree with Cruiseman on the matte finishes, definitely not my style but it's nice that Honda has some very different choices for people who like shiny and those who don't.

That really is a gorgeous bike. I test rode the 2018 DCT when it first came out and thought back then it was an awesome bike but I ended up buying an Indian Roadmaster. Don't get me wrong, I love my Roadmaster but I keep going back to the Honda Goldwing. And that color combo is beautiful. I will say the one thing I did not like about the new goldwing is the seat. To me, it was pretty uncomfortable for extended rides.

Would love to see more colors with blacked out chrome, blue over black, green over black, those would be sharp for sure

I'm not normally a fan of red paint but that is a nice combination. Is the silver stripe paint or decal? Will the utopia backrest still fit this seat?
@cruisemansgarage3 жыл бұрын
I believe the silver is a decal, but it appears that they shot the clear coat over it.

Yes on Utopia.

Great video! I'm wondering why you think Honda will be discontinuing the Goldwing? I would have thought that with such high demand, as you pointed out several times in the video, Honda would be motivated to keep developing and selling the model.
@cruisemansgarage3 жыл бұрын
The demand IS high given the current supply. However, the market for large touring bikes is nothing like it was in the early 2000s.

I have an 18 , and I'm pleased to see that the trunk is the main difference [and paint ] . I would hate to see G W buyers become like H D has become , where the paint has become the big deal. And I rode Harley's for 35 years.

Thanks for the 2021 test ride CM. Think I’ll stick with my 2020. You said something towards the end about Honda may not make Goldwings much longer? Can you expand on this sometime? I thought they are still great selling bikes for Honda? Thanks.

I was just speculating that the overall market for motorcycles is receding. How many of our kids and grandkids ride motorbikes?
@RobertLeeLewisThe2nd3 жыл бұрын
@@cruisemansgarage IMHO, putting DCT on "starter bikes" like the little Rebels would help get young people on bikes. "Kids nowadays" don't learn to drive standard transmissions, so getting a twenty-something to learn to ride a motorcycle presents too many hurdles. Most of us were familiar and used to standard transmissions by the time we could afford to buy a motorcycle.
@cruisemansgarage3 жыл бұрын
@@RobertLeeLewisThe2nd I completely agree, but the cost of a DCT might make the smaller bikes prohibitive.

Thanks for the review. I look forward to getting one later this year or early next year...after I move to Texas. That time of the year will let me see if there are any changes to the 2022 model before buying. Either way, the new Gold Wing will be the perfect companion to my 2020 Yamaha VMAX.

My concern is how small the foot board for the passenger and the peg for the rider. Hopefully you can purchase some sort of highway mounts for the rider to be able to change positions and stretch out.

I could care less about the size of the trunk, I'll adjust. It's the performance that's important in any bike, and Honda gets it right every year a new model comes out. Yes we like storage, but all the storage in the world don't mean a thing if I the bike isn't reliable. Nice review... It would have better if you didn't have a follower / baby sitter watching your every move. If I can't test ride a bike the way I normally ride, then I wouldn't purchase it. And no I am NOT a reckless rider.

I took note of your "end of an era" comment and have to agree; end of the internal combustion era Goldwing. My opinion is Honda will bring out a high milage ELECTRIC GW within the next 10 years. As battery performance improves and the infrastructure of recharging stations grows, it makes sense to me that the next iteration Wing will be electric. Talk about performance! It could be a game changer for long distance comfort and styling. I'm happy with my '18 DCT Tour and will likely be too old to ride an e-Wing but just imagine...
@cruisemansgarage3 жыл бұрын
There is no technology on the horizon that would indicate a long-distance electric motorcycle (or car for that matter) is coming anytime soon.

@@cruisemansgarage Solid state batteries show promise and with a 10 year time horizon I believe would enable a truly cross-country vehicle - car or MC. All a pipe dream for now but one never knows!
