Finally an e-pace car review where the reviewer uses the dynamic mode instead of claiming the car doesn't feel like a Jaguar as they lumber around in Comfort mode!

Such a beautiful vehicle. Would buy in a heartbeat if I did not have a tax hungry company car.

Even after the facelift, Whatcar? still only awards it 2 stars. Weakest car JLR makes.

@@audionut9974 Indeed, but I do agree that's exactly what the E-Pace is. Shamefully weak.

What Car seem to have a 'love in' with the Evoque.. I can't see it myself I have driven both cars in 2021 trim. (Ok i am not motoring jurno and was not doing a road test); and there seems little if any difference in (for example) the ride with the Jag being perhaps a little firmer and a little bit more controlled in a nice way -- Almost as if it had a lower CoG?? (No idea whether it has or not). BTW at 6ft 4 inches tall, me AND my family weirdly find it easier to get in the jag than the Evoque, despite ALL the tests saying the jag is smaller inside??? Family as well preferred the interior layout and quality feel of the Jag to others in the class including Volvo and X3, and all were critical of the interiors on the Mercs. Those 2 stars are an 'outlier' on the new 'facelifted' E Pace reviews, with other test organisations differing significantly.

@@christoms5539 While, I personally think 2 stars is a little meagre, the WhatCar? review identifies the cars strengths and weaknesses well. Without question well judged analysis and I am convinced that this car is, even in post facelift form, the weakest car in the JLR range. I disagree that WhatCar? has a 'love in' with Evoque, but certainly *_has_* with XC40, where their reviews have leant toward the cars strengths rather than its weaknesses since launch. The E-Pace, however, adds little to the market and has not sold in the numbers anticipated. And Jaguar remains loss making - even prior to Covid. It was a lacklustre attempt at expanding the Jaguar range 'on the cheap' and the 2014 Disco Sport should have been the last car developed on the old Ford-derived platform. Thankfully the new Chief understands that Jaguar cannot get away continuing to churn out such mediocrity. The XJ being canned at such a late stage in development signalling the car was not up to par in some respect/s. Crucially, though, my instinct suggests that if E-Pace had not yet been launched prior to Thierry Bolloré's appointment, it would also have been canned. But like anything, there will always be those who disagree . Those who adore E-Pace and XE. But when all is said and done, I am confident the Chief has a similar view to me - that Jaguar must raise its game and quickly. The days when it can churn out new models of E-Pace, XE, XF quality are over. This new strategy is absolutely Jaguar's last chance - it needs to make truly special, profitable cars....or die. Which is more likely? Sadly, I think Jaguar will die. The brand has no real global appeal and whether its SUV's, sportcars, compact exec, the cars will not reach their potential as the Jaguar brand is in terminal decline and JLR does not have the recourses to fight that decline. And that has been the case way before some twit decided to merge Land Rover and Jaguar. One of the biggest mistakes the car industry has ever seen.

@@Clavinovaman You are not wrong about the volvo and some reviewers almost fetishistic love of it. Well pretty much everyone else (Top Gear Autocar etc) gives The E pace a much more realistic 3 and a half/4 stars. The only consistent criticism of the updated car, is it's heavy and a tad thirsty as a result. Also there are several road tests out their recently, comparing E pace with the Volvo, which come down 'on points' in favor of the volvo... In which the testers then go on to say they personally preferred driving the E pace... As for the'weakest' car in the JLR range. Hmmmm. The JLR range is 'crowded' I would reserve that title for the RR Velar, as far as I can see that is an attempt to stick a RR badge on an F pace. I would also worry if i was 'full fat' discovery, as that is looking dangerously squeezed between the RR sport, (new one due out soon), and the VERY impressive (as in Land Rover can sell everyone it makes). New defender. I am currently going through the buying process (hence my interest) and have tried all the most obvious cars in the sector on longish test drives. I REALLY cant see what the fuss is about with the Volvo. The Audi range feels 'soulless' like highly efficient washing machines. A bit like (If i can paraphrase Einstein) "One had described Beethoven's 9th symphony as a series of air pressure curves". Mercedes interiors look and feel like they were designed by an early 80's teenager who had taken his inspiration and materials from an Amstrad Ghetto-blaster. I do not expect when operating a touch screen menu, to feel and see the screen flex under my touch...... Real world, the Jag doesn't 'redefine the sector' and is not the mythical 'best in it's class'. As a mater of interest taking in mind that my family cannot physically fit in an Evoque, I don't want to drive '4 metres of car' (Audi ), and its not the 1980's, and i am not 18; what car would you recommend in the medium sized SUV range?
