Just an info: This is built off a new platform that is not shared with the Durango (the Durango is actually shared with the last-gen WK2 Grand Cherokee). This is built from an Alfa Giorgio platform, which means this is also the first Grand Cherokee that is a CUV.

GC was the among the first unibody vehicles when it debuted in 1992. Its always been a CUV, and furthermore the last gen was based off of the GLE chassis which is also a CUV

The previous model uses a derivative of the GLE for a platform, but to my knowledge does not share the architecture with anything other than the Durango. And of course, it goes without saying that the previous GCs, with their solid axles, do not share a platform and architecture with any cars at the time.

Don't be so sure the Durango is on the way out. Dodge has positioned itself as the on-road performance brand. Jeep is the off road capable mid tier to luxury brand. While similar, the Durango still has a place in the market.

I’d be surprised if the Durango went away. We have a 2019 SXT with AWD that is a superb example of getting plenty of bang for your buck. It’s affordable, so comfortable, seats 7 easily, and delivers good MPGs, but we also have no problems at all getting around during a nasty Nebraska winter.

The unibody platform Durango is being retired soon. Dodge is moving it back to a truck platform to make it a full size suv. It will be built on the Wagoneer’s chassis and share many components with it. I suspect it will be a less-posh variant of the Wagoneer at more affordable price; while the Wagoneer will be the upmarket choice and the Grand Wagoneer will be the luxury option. The Durango will compete with Tahoe, Wagoneer to Yukon Denali and Grand Wagoneer to the Escalade. That is my forecast, anyway.

Another amazing video. I was able to drive one today and love it. RIP DURANGOfor sure. The Durango even with its slight refresh pails in comparion. Now you do have to mention the other trim levels of the GCL because this car easily gets up to 65k especially on the Summit and Summit Reserve trim levels. And there are 3 different types of leather, the GCL limited gets a base leather with the option of perforated or non perforated and the overland and summit models get nappa leather and the summit reserve gets the Palermo leather and massage seats and some other interior surfaces are added with more leather. Also The 5.8l v8 only can be optioned with the Overland, summit and summit reserve model and that starts at 54k before optioning with the 5.7 v8 which is an additional 3k. You mentioned the Wagoneer and they are bringing that back and it will be the best big SUVcomparing to the Tahoe, and Expedition and even the Escalade starting at a whopping 87k. But from what ive seen that wagoneer is pure luxury. Good job JEEP.

I love this new jeep grand cherokee l and the new 2 row version as well. I have never said that about a grand cherokee and I've worked at a manufacturing facility in Ohio that builds parts for these vehicles for the last 18 yrs! I personally want the altitude trim of the L. PS: the Durango and current grand cherokee are on the WD/WK2 platform. The new grand cherokees-the L and 2 row- are on the all new WL platform. Great lil quick review as always.

These are beautiful. It’s just too bad they don’t build a reliable product. There always seems to be some issues that the dealer can never figure out. I had an older generation. I loved it until I didn’t. The interior was so luxurious and it had such a smooth ride. It was loaded up. Then At 38000 miles the engine starting sputtering intermittently for no rhyme or reason. It would happen every so often. They could never figure it out. So I got rid of it and never bought a Jeep again. My friend had one and had an electrical problem they could never figure out. Too bad cuz I think they are the best looking truck out there. But looking good isn’t good enough.

I bought a GCL limited on 7/23/21 and it’s been in the shop since 7/30/21. I didn’t even have 100 miles on it. They still haven’t fixed it. Supposedly, an engineer is coming in from Detroit to update my drivetrain software tomorrow. I don’t even want it anymore.

It appears that it was a defective rear hatch module that wasn't always shutting down that drained the battery over time. Since they replaced it I haven't had any other issues except for the typical Android auto and wireless charging issues some others have experienced. Ended up really liking this SUV, it's a comfortable and smooth ride.

But it had all the bells and whistles. Factor in routine maintenance I was at the dealership more than I care to be. All I'm saying is, the Highlander is proven. Chrysler (no matter how cool) have a below average track record for reliability.

Oh no, what is Jeep doing? Looks nice, but a 3.6 naturally aspirated is kind of sad. The last Jeep Grand Cherokee I had (2008 Laredo ) had a 3.7 Twin Turbo. Other thing I noticed that is irritating (a lot of auto manufacturers are doing the same thing) is the lighter upper part of the interior. I like black interiors and I'm a bit OCD, so when manufacturers do that lighter upper half (light grey, tan, beige, so on) it bugs me and looks cheep, like a lack of attention to detail.

Don't know that we will ever own one. If I understand correctly the V6 is the only engine available. To me the wheel n tire combo can make or break just about any vehicle. Got a pickup or SUV of any model or year, put good looking wheels and widest tires that will fit and changes it's whole attitude about it's self. Wife recently had a Mercedes GL550 with 295-40-21 tires and wheels and like lookin at it parked, driving it for no other reason than just the drive. Nearly 500hp and also like to be behind it following wife down the road. So with all the engines in Jeep inventory and all you can get in the biggest Jeep is that V6. Maybe saves a few bucks but throw in Hemi and the fatter tires and then scope it out. Just curious as to how many like to drive with right hand on a SHIFTER. A knob for turning on the headlights just doesn't get it done. Passed up killer deal on Jag sedan because of that knob. All these things are just my opinions but we have owned over 200 rides since my first car, '66 Mustang in 1972. Still have it. Out of the 200+ rides only one new one, uh oh, it was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Lemon model. Really liked Jeeps and still do but just got unlucky on that one. SO, like this new model Jeep but if you're gonna go big doesn't big engine and big rubber make sense? The Wagoneer is FULL upscale and not really being positioned as a "Jeep". Going for something like what Land Rover does... something like that. I'm under the impression that one is somewhat bigger as well, bit we'll see

You nailed it!!! Also you have to get a luxury edition starting in the overland for 4wd low. They don't offer it in the lower end models. Its actually sad. Owned wranglers and grand cherokees. I will probably be moving my business to the Toyota 4 runner for a true 4x4 system

Checked out both of them back to back yesterday. Telluride doesn't feel as premium as the JGC...not even close. Room is almost the same inside, but the Telluride felt like a cheap car trying to look expensive. Didn't like that massive TELLURIDE splattered all over the front hood, and Kia's tiger nose grill... makes the vehicle look very cheap and tacky. Also, the transmission in the Jeep is way better than the Kia. With all that said, all that is subjective to each person of course.
