When it comes to old-school vehicles that have changed little over time, the first classic that probably comes to mind is the Jeep Wrangler. So, it’s perhaps the last one you would expect to have an electric charge port. But, we all know things are changing more rapidly these days, and Jeep is fully on board with what battery power can bring to the table, and yes even to the trail!

I know there's been tons of press on the Bronco, but this 4Xe may be the best thing to come to this class, overall. 31MPG from a brick with real 4WD and no losses usability seems appropriate for the times. If MT got 0-60 in 6.0secs(and 93mph in the 1/4mi!), then it is even faster than I thought.

I saw other reviews and as much as they liked it, they complained about its transitions between electric and gas as being far from seamless. Motor Week just complained about the interior noise from the electric motor. On paper, this might seem fantastic but it sounds like Jeep really isn’t there yet when it comes to integration. I’ll stick with a gas motor until Jeep goes fully electric in the 2023 model.

That statement can be said about anything. The point is not that they made a plug in EV. The point of this Jeep is that they made an off road capable vehicle that has the plug-in EV technology. Someone had to start it, and Jeep did. Toyota has been making hybrids/plug ins for a while. Did they make a plug in FJ Cruiser? No. Jeep did. So good on them for getting the ball rolling.

I strongly considered a RAV4 prime as my wife and I love our 2019 Highlander Hybrid, but went with the 4xe to replace my volt due to at the time strong availability and no dealer price gouging. The prime simply had minimal availability and huge price markups that i wasn't going to give to the dealership. 13000 miles later i'm happy with my decision so far.

The I-4 engine in Wranglers is absolutely terrible from a dead stop, near stop, or when u need to accelerate immediately like for changing lanes. If you’re at speed above 30 and want to go fast it has some getup. Do not buy the 4 cylinder. There’s a reason Jeep discontinued the $1500 premium on the 4 banger. Because they’re junk engines. Too heavy of a vehicle for a 4 banger

Thankfully it's Not a Full EV, having that gas engine to backup it up when the battery's drained, especially off-road, is going to be missed when we're all forced into EV's. You can't bring five gallons of electricity with you up the mountain. What happened to our Antiquated Electrical Grid, which was common to here about 10 years ago and back, did it somehow improve itself to handle a much bigger load?
@luket4319
@luket4319 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it would be an all EV market. I think that for the time being, hybrids would become the norm with them using a similar system to the Jeep, and the purely electric vehicles would be for the upper middle class and rich since pure electric motors cost a lot more than combustion engines.
@R777-RLM
@R777-RLM 2 жыл бұрын
@@luket4319 I hope you're right. I think EV's would be good for city cars, but if you live in a rural area like I do (central Utah), they're totally impractical. I used to drive 100 miles round trip for work alone, which is common if you live in small town. I don't really have a problem with hybrids that have a reliable internal combustion engine, with the exception of the battery, that often needs replacement every 10 yrs; still, a hybrid is better than a full EV, in my opinion.

So Jeep is always near the bottom in Reliability, like Land Rover. So Fiat/Chrysler/Renault said let’s make a complicated Jeep Hybrid. Ive already heard of 1 of these that was driven off road & had to be towed to dealer. Totally dead, won’t start anymore. Electronic system shot. No thanks. Ive always loved watching Motorweek though since I was a kid!

Would be really nice to see this have an IFS so it doesn't drive like absolute piece of floaty, non responsive crap on road. The electric power is nearly useless offroad since it's range is cut down to maybe 3-4 miles. Plus the Bronco has already proven you can keep 99% of the off road utility with an IFS with todays technology. Just make an IFS version of the Wrangler, and keep the solid axel as a factory option for the hardcore off roaders.
@bradcomis1066

Sure the electric power might not be used much off-road, but most of the miles put on any Wrangler are in the city, which is where a hybrid drivetrain really shows its benefits.
