Also check out my KZbin video for my One Mount Ownership review! Link below. In this video I show you how my brother and I changed the oil and oil filter on his new KIA K5 1.6L Turbo EX. This was the first oil change that we did for the 1,000 mile break in oil change. I hope this video helps someone out. Thanks for watching!

Excellent video, thanks for taking the time to produce it. A few take-aways for me. 1. I have a new 2022 Tucson Hybrid with that same engine. Assuming the splash guard cutouts will cause the same drain mess, I'll likely opt to remove the entire splash guard. Inexcusable Hyundai/Kia design. 2. For those watching the Oil Filter Drain Plug removal, you did not show the pin removal process. I mention this so that others don't try to remove the plug w/o removing the cotter pin first. 3. Not to sound like your father, but you should wear protective gloves when messing with petroleum products, which are carcinogens (cancer causing). You're young now and don't think of those things, I get it. But cancer cells hide in your body just waiting for the opportune time. Sorry for the lecture.

Amazing information. My husband just dropped off his car to Kia to get his 3rd oil change. They've doubled the price. We will be doing our own from now on. Rockstar video. Thank you.

Thanks for the video, it really helped me get my first oil change done. When I took my drain plug out, there was no washer on the plug. I noticed what looked like a washer stuck on the pan as you did. I hit it with a screwdriver and it popped off. It was the washer. You may want to pop yours off the next oil change. You have 2 washers on your plug now.

Thanks so much! Hubby is outside changing ours atm. Don't forget to tell people to pull the pin out!! Saw that in another video, guy actually damaged his. Hubby asked me right find a video "where they don't break stuff first". So he wouldn't follow along and do the same thing.

Only advice, is dont remove the drain plug for the filter. Just leave it on the filter and push it all into the housing. The way you guys did it, by removing it off the new filter, first it fail down and could of been lost, your lucky you found it. And second you have to do all that exstra work putting it in from under like you did. All that was completely unnecessary EXSTRA work. And the tool you used was bad and made it harder. It would of been easier if you had long needle nose pliers. But other then those 2 things, you guys did a good job. ✌️

it would be a good idea to put the filter drain plug in and put oil in the filter prior to screwing it back on .....it gets oil to the engine moving parts right away

Makes no difference, the new filter stays dry until you start the engine . But IMO, they should have let the oil drain while working on the new filter.

Nah hubby says (and I agree it looks very similar) to a pool filter cartridge change. (Often called "pool filter") You don't have to drain the pool 1st to change a cartridge 😊. Shocked me when I watched lol used to the other style with housing changed too. 😅

I wonder if this engine will have the same issue honda has with fuel mixing with with the oil? That sure seemed like really dirty oil for only 1200 miles. How hard have you been driving that vehicle.
@BlazerGuy1983
@BlazerGuy1983 3 жыл бұрын
We have been very easy on the vehicle, especially during it’s break-in period. We wondered too why the oils looked so muddy like. I am assuming it was due to a special break-in oil used on the assembly line.

I have a k5 GT LINE with premium package I bought in May. I changed the original oil at 1500 miles, did smell a little gassy. Changed it 3000 miles later, and definitely smelled of gas. No rise on dipstick though. Based on that. And the watery 0 20 oil, I've decided to change the oil every 3000 miles. After much internet research, and looking at all car brands, it seems all GDI engines, especially those with turbos suffer from gas oil dilution. We'll see how it goes in the long run. Hopefully they've designed these engines to tolerate this issue for the long haul.

So first, as of March 2021 Kia says they recommend full synthetic for all 2021 engines. But… Also being a K5 owner, I just changed my oil as well but noticed some damage to the head just under the oil fill cap, under the valve cover. I’m curious if you have it too. Dealership claimed Kia knows about it and it’s on all K5s and they won’t replace it. I’m not buying it, it looks like pieces were being thrown around by the cam. It looks like someone took a screwdriver to it. Wondering if you have the same damage. (I have the 4L 1.6L as well)
@brianhechinger6726
@brianhechinger6726 2 жыл бұрын
Doesn’t the new filter cartridge install into the cap with the new plug left in place? Seems risky to remove it and then reinstall it since you could miss the groove in the filter and have it not locked in properly. And why put the old plug back in just to remove the cap? Seems like you’d pull the plug out and throw it away, then the new plug slides in attached to the new filter. You could have over 12k viewers doing it the wrong way. Lol. Kia recommends first oil change at 6000mi under the normal maintenance schedule for 1.6L and 2.5L K5s.

Oil looked really milky? Any problems fuel or coolant mixing with oil? Might wanna get that checked. Also Kia recommend to me not to change oil til you hit at least 4000 miles for the break in period to cure.

You didn’t continue the video to where you checked the oil dipstick. How would we know if it truly takes all 5 qts? Based on this video, we’d either have to take your word for it or put slightly less than 5 qts and check with dipstick after running the engine and add as needed. Definitely reading my owners manual after seeing this lol.

@@johnfranklin5277 Umm, yeah, it's not, they don't even tell you what type of oil filter it uses and the hyundai/kia part number, it uses a cartridge that currently I believe the only way to get one is to buy it from the dealer currently. The owners manual pretty much just tells you to go to the dealer for everything and doesn't tell you how to do anything.
