Interesting you ask about reliability. I custom ordered a 2020 GLE 450 SUV and picked it up in April 2020. MSRP $81,000 US. After one month, I began to have issues with locking and unlocking AND starting the car. Since then, they’ve reprogrammed the car 2 x , changed both key fobs, ignition module, antenna. AND I’m still experiencing issues! I can no longer start my car with the phone app! I’m about to retire and this was my gift for retiring. The rain wiper sensors don’t work, and the dealership admitted they don’t work well in any MB car. And the seats don’t go back to allow easy entry and exit. I have a ton of videos demonstrating the issues. It’s been in the shop 5x for a total of 11 days. In 6 months! You can do a video on my car and MBs terrible customer service. So will the reliability be there in 5 years? It’s not even there after 5 weeks. So disappointed in MB.

I believe you. When my Mom was car shopping she was stuck between MB & Volvo. The car salesman for MB said “ oh we have 90 cars per day needing to be fixed “ my Mom “😨” lol. She has the Volvo XC90 now

@@mialeonard1838 Funny. I literally just dropped off my new GLE again for the sixth time in six months. Dealer said they want to keep the car for a few days to figure it out. Let's see if this time is charm.

interesting lol. I own a GLE 53, like the one in this video. 86 grand with roughly 10k in options. No problems since we got it back in may of 2021. Sounds like you just got a bad egg, only problem with mine is the 100+ gas I pay every other week

Regarding the question if this cars are good for the longterm....Electronics are in such a fast development pace..look at cars from 5 years ago - like me love driving classic Porsches from this time back - the electronics are just not that good. Better would be analog dials, good BT integration for the latest apple car play / equivalent with a standardised slot for this head unit, means you would only need to swap this one if you have to / want to. Regarding the 48 V system - I don't think it will make a difference going forward, looking at EV´s you can use any kind of voltage for you internal systems. The more complicated the systems are, the less likely they will operate long term without problems. Like in 20 years from now - you might not be able to keep them alive. That's the beauty of real classic analogue cars, all is mechanical.

The removal of drive belts for ac compressor and alternator would be beneficial for reliability/maintenance, however an electrical “pre charged” turbo scares me.

48v systems will simplify the maintenance process and reduce the wear and tear over the long term. Is it more reliable? and/or cheaper? We'll have to wait and see the longevity of the motor & how much it costs to replace it. As for the integrated suspension, I'm skeptical to say the least. Mercedes sand reliable suspensions do not belong in the same sentence lol. M, would you classify this 48v system as first gen tech? Or second? I recall BMW was working on a next gen system that produces triple digits worth of extra powerl. As always, excellent work M.

Viewer from Colombo, Sri Lanka here...... Almost 100% of European PHEVs and Mild Hybrids have issues here. BMW 330e, 530e, 740e Mercedes-Benz C350e, E350e etc EVs are doing well with less breakdowns.

In America where perceptual value / pricing (disconnected from any objective reality other than greed and faux customer king / hero marketing) is business orthodoxy, I find the AMG GLE 53 Coupe (SUV) is worth every perceptual cent, speaking relatively (German engineering, design, innovation, craftsmanship). Thats because this is the amount it costs more than the regular camera, which is standard in the us and included into the vehicles price(around 1 grand). So you actually pay like 1400 for it.

I thought only 53s with the Active ride control PLUS had the active 48volt suspension, and that the base models like what you have just have the standard airmatic but tuned for more sporty driving. The interesting thing with the GLE53 (especially the longroof) is that it ends up costing similar to the GLE450 if you add E-ABC to the former but don't add the dynamic options to the 53. But then every feature you add that's available on both costs the same. I would have a tough time getting the 450 over the 53 given that. To be fair, though, the GLE450 no longer offers E-ABC, meaning the 53 now costs more for the same options.

Sorry for all these entries but since I have mine I have learned some things. I have the 22" summer tires but they do NOT like the cold midwest weather and they rub and grab. If you live in cold climates in the winter, you might think twice about getting the 22" tires. They look amazing but you will have to "weather the storm" until spring.....Do you see what I did there? hahahahaha

I just got mine yesterday. OMG Due to Covid some things I thought I was going to get I did not get and have to get later. I wanted my star to light up in the front at night but due to a chip issue, I could not get it. So in February, they will add that one for me. I also was not able to get the wireless charging in the car due to the chip issue. Don't know if they can add on to that later. But I love my car. I've named it Trelane like in the Star Trek episodes. He's obsidian black with red brake calipers. Red and black napp leather interior. 22" wheels at around $1000 a tire. I had to insure those and with the maintenance package, you spend about another $5000. So my car cost me about $104,300. Well, I'm listening to some of the complaints on here and now I'm a little worried but I have to pray on it. Mine is a 2022 so I hope maybe they have worked out some of the kinks. Also, I'm not going to push this engine for quite a while. A little here and there AFTER 1000 miles but I do not drag race anyway. Too be continued I guess #sigh.

i have one as well, around 86 grand with all the extra options. got it back in may and its holding up really well. I dont really think you need to worry, mine is a 2021 model and havent had any major issues what so ever. Its a good Idea to wait after a few thousand miles before really pushing it. Our dealer recommended after around 5-7k miles before we could floor it lol

I think there is a mistake in the video: there is no torque converter, the startergenerator sits in the place of it. (between engine and gearbox) Also i would argue the reason for Mercedes to go back to the I6 has less to do with it being the most simple and best design, but with economy. The v6 they had shared components and manufacturing things with the V8s. But due to regulations by the EU and others Mercedes almost completely ditched the V8 already, and in my view is going to ditch them completely. And an so they use a concept that is closer to an I4.

Personally I wouldn’t. And, the Macan is in a different competing realm to the GLE series. Cayenne Coupe is competing with the GLE Coupe not the Macan. And, i’d still take the Macan OVER the GLC. Just my opinion though. Many others have different opinions though!

Quiet on the road so i can talk and think, and frankly if i want that popping and farting id stop taking my inhaler and just let loose so... Seriously tho i have a 2020 V4S so i get all that drama there, then pick up the keys to my 2005 Buick Park Ave Ultra Special Edition! I have to mention the Special Edition it is indeed special. LOL Yea when ppl see me on the bike and then see the car i drive they get confused. And i never stop for police on the bike and they chase me on the daily so you know i ride fast. Driving? Oh yea i keep in traffic its slow and steady id never run from a cop in that...frankly they would never see the need.

I don´t think so - if - there are enough "Halo" models at the top of the range, as long if they build the really cool stuff - you can also offer the entry level cars and trim. AMG used to be their own brand, before Mercedes bought them. The "real" AMG´s are the SLS and the GT, all others are "only" tuned anyway.

@@the-boring-car-guy well let me give an example. I owed a GLE 450 amg coupe and that car was slow and bad at handling (even with dynamic sway bar package!). That car didn't do amg justice. Maybe this gle 53 is different because you have a lot more torque from the mild hybrid system.
