I am going to be completely honest here, this is an amazing car but one of the reasons why I liked the S-Class so much was because of its simplicity and interior craftsmanship, but with this new model, it looks more like a consumer electronic product than an actual vehicle. When you look at the previous generation, there were physcial buttons for most of the interior funtions and some of them even had metal finishes. With that being said every button in this vehicle is this glossy black plastic and it just looks so cheap and not like Mercedes. The last generation in my opinion is so much better and it looks much more expensive. For god's sake, they even got rid of the interior clock that S-Class models had for decades. I would expect this in say Lexus or Acura, but physical buttons is a way for manufacturers to actually incorporate high quality materials into their cabin.

@dylanw8903 жыл бұрын
@@ahmedxkhan exactly, I’m not against techs my cars but there comes a point when too much tech can actually cheapen the vehicle. Look a Bentleys, they have a lot of tech but they also realize that what you paying for is the details and the finishes of the interior. When I look in this a class, there is nothing that looks high quality except for the seats and maybe some of the door buttons

Absolutely agree. More and more manufacturers are shifting towards display only car control. The tech being integrated into the cars is a good thing, when implented with the sense in mind. The AC controller for example is one of the knobs which are accessed a lot when driving and having to navigate through a sometimes horribly laggy display just doesn't make any sense. My 2017 X-Trail has a reasonably implented display alongside buttons which i think is the best usable combo.

@faeinthebay3 жыл бұрын
Of course it isn't 3 times better. Just like with any range of products, there's a curve of "value per dollar" and you get diminishing returns near the top. When you jump from a $20k car to a $30k car you get massive improvement, but the gap between a $60k car and a $80k car is much smaller, and it shrinks further still from a $100k car to a $130k car. The point of S Classes, Bentleys, and other top luxury cars is just "because we can", and buyers choose them because they want the best and the extra cost isn't significant to them.

The overall interior atmosphere is elegant and modern. The piano blacks look clean and sleek, but are they as expensive a material as the real wood, metal and leather? That cheapening out vibe should not be felt in a sedan like this. I guess Mercedes was jealous of Tesla being making money with such simple and cheap interior. We got more brand power. Why should we use such expensive materials when we got the brand. Even Tesla is making money out of their brands. Just cheap out everything and tell people that this is the new form of luxury. Besides, I think the exterior definitely looks cheaper than the previous model.

The worst thing about these displays and basically all car displays is that they are always covered by dirty filthy oily fingerprints. The other disadvantage is that they are dim and this makes them ugly, like you use a laptop under the sun, they're just disgusting under bright daylight. Automakers must do something about these problems but they don't seem to be concerned about these problems at all.

Will this generation of S-Class be more reliable than the predecessor? A $100K+ vehicle with a full warranty less than many Korean mainstream auto brands. Adding so many layers of tech does not translate to a long-term luxury ownership experience. The fact that you see more Lexus LS 400s still on the road than the equivalent model year S-Class speaks volumes about quality and long-term reliability. Mercedes seems afraid to build a bullet-proof and reliable car anymore and is focused on piling on the gizmos and getting the customer to lease their vehicles before reliability issues start to tarnish the customer experience.

Too much flash and there are too many glossy areas on the car. The matte wood version is better. Too much piano black. It's hard to tell how quiet it is because cars sound noisier on videos but you can still hear the wheels rolling as well as the strips and crevices in the road. I don't doubt the car is smooth but for its reputation, expectations are high. It's still has some of the same sensations of any car.
