Having sailed on a friend’s Neel 47, I can confirm how roomy and fun this boat is. We chartered a Neel 45 in the Caribbean and it set the stage for his purchase. The 45 was very hard to tack, but the 47 seems to have solved that issue. The tri is so much better than a cat if you enjoy a spirited sail. It really is the best of a single hull and cat…roomy yet fast. Glad you had a chance to review the boat, now sail it already.
@222INFINITY3 жыл бұрын
You are 100% bang on when you say, makes a great couple boat, which 85%+ of sailors are. Everything on the NEEL 47 seems purposely designed and built for couples, and the outriggers bring so much safety to the game. As Sinead would say, I always make sure the carpet matches the drapes incase I go into a highspeed spin, well done, well done in deed!

Thanks for the video. Really interesting look at this fascinating boat. The master cabin on deck super close to the chart table and helm, the very easily accessible technical rooms, better finish and quality than on early samples, standard bow thruster for easy control in marinas, amazing amount of storage, possibility to really single hand from a position that is protected from elements and offers a good view on at least 3 corners, large areas for solar panels, great performance on all points of sail,... this boat really has a lot going for it. It's also great to be able to charter it for trial before committing to a purchase. I am not in the market for such a boat, but if I were I would personally never select on plans or based on a visit in a boat show or even day sail. It takes a week on board to really understand how a boat feels in various conditions, how practical it is, what the issues are,... If I am not mistaken it's also possible to fit 2 additional "skipper" berths in the front part of the hulls? Another aspect you could have spoken about a bit more is the hardware, rigging,...?

That is the first Trimaran I've seen that I would consider living on. Convert one of the side cabins into an office, save the other for guests. LOTS of deck room, and I adore all that space below decks. Wow! Some cats are almost impossible to get at the engines, you'd need trained monkeys to do a valve job. That hatch looks big enough you could actually just lift the entire engine out! As a tri, it's probably blue water capable, too.

If you like the Neel 47, you'll positively be enamored by the 51. Larger engine room and it's accessible from the saloon inside the main living area. Also, the side cabins have interior access as well plus they're wider. It's in a whole other price range but a used Neel 51 might be a good option to consider.

A Trimaran!!! I love it. I just saw the tumbnail so far, but I love it! Because, for those that don't know, apparently they are far more stable in the water then double hulls, because there is an extra hull in the water, as a foundation of sorts, to stop it capsizing during a storm. Also, the central hull can be built to take the main weight of the vessel, with the side hulls just being supports, and thus not as major a structural challenge as opposed to building two main hulls, with serious structural engineering keeping these two main, far appart sections together. I don't know this for sure. I'm just basing it on "Nick the Naval architects" Trimaran youtube video. But it makes sence.
@gregmcmullen66983 жыл бұрын
you'd think they're more stable than a dual hull cat, but I hear they're not. there's too much body roll because the center hull acts like a pivot, instead of a support. to each his own. its a rather "cheap looking" buildout.

I was sold when you showed the master bedroom , helm and galley. Before seeing this boat I would have dreamed of an Outremer 50'-60'. The sailing around the world YT channels could even turn the master into a film studio. If you didn't mind sleeping in a double in one of the hulls that master could be turned into a huge workshop. They even put seating in the engine room for when you work on the motor. If you were a traveling surgeon you could turn the master into an operating room. The only negative I could see is a bit more rocking side to side than on a catamaran.

Having owned 3 tris and 2 cats, I can say that the performance range of cruising tris and cruising cats overlaps, I.e. this tri would not outperform all 47’ cruising cats under sail. Under power I would take the redundancy and handling of twin diesels over a diesel and a bow thruster. Having said that I like this boat and have been aboard several… though not sailed one. My biggest concern would be resale value as the cruising tri market is tiny.

If you are sailing a trimaran, you have some advantages over catamaran, due to it's narrow hull width, less wetted area when under sail due to one hull being out of the water for the most part. The main mono-hull is more efficient through the water than a wide cat hull, with 4ft draft and due to it's length helps the sail boat point higher into the wind. ( A very important issue when you want to sail and avoid fuel costs.) The only rough spots were the unfinished in-hull storage and the lack of engine room sound proofing. Video of a Trimaran sailing VS a Catamaran sailing is a night VS day comparison.

Been looking at the 65’ since first seeing one in St Tropez anchored a few hundred yards out from the backyard beach. Everything they do is done to perfection. If you’re not the type to “think of everything”, it will take a minute or two to recognize and understand what you’re really looking at, why it’s there and how freakin’ sweet it is that it’s just there, not something you need to design or negotiate or customize or whatever. I love your out takes every week! 🤣🤣🤣. So good! Another great tour, well done. I like the design principles they have used in this...but it's not for me. If I was sailing the world on my own, yes, but since it have family (big family) I need much more space! Well done Neel however. 🤙✌️🤚🖖
