2021 Porsche Macan Turbo review + launch control test

In 2021, the Porsche Macan is getting on a bit - it's been out since 2014 and slightly updated in 2018. But it's still a corking family SUV that's fun to drive - but is the Turbo version worth paying extra for? How fast is it? Can I pull stupid faces while doing launch control? I’ve always had hot hatches and switched to a Macan GTS 2020 last year for more space and think it’s a great all rounder. It’s not a sports car, but it’s comfie, quick, handles well and doesn’t depreciate. Enjoy your reviews Tim. Have a 991.2 GT3, would be good to see a review, you’d love it

It is such a great car, My wife is driving 2017 GTS. I just order another 2022 face lift GTS. Last combustion engine, can't miss that.

We had a couple of these, because of the way the Porsche cars feel and drive. We wanted a practical car and this is the smallest model in the range. One diesel and one Turbo and both were amazing in different ways. (Both pre-face lift when the back lights were nicer) I agree about the pace. The weight blunts the feeling I guess. The Turbo was still 10seconds to 100mph though! Autobahn activities suit these so well! V-Max in both was SO planted and secure. The faster you go, the better they feel. The Turbo was a beast from 90-140mph. The sports seats (armchairs really) are the best for touring I’ve ever sat / slept in. More buttons than Cadbury though 🤓

I also have a Turbo pre-face lift and I think that it looks way more aggressive than the new one and I completely agree with the better looking taillights.

The Macan is a fantastic car at every level, its a Porsche. BTW you don't need to start it with a key if you add the keyless start option.

Excellent nonsense! I've just swapped my Porsche Cayman for an F-Type (did I ever mention that?), it makes you realise that Porsches are quite expensive and the Jaguar is really good value for money, but it's all relative, take my GR Yaris for example (did I ever mention that?) it is fully loaded for a bargain price! Off out on the "lash" now! By that I mean lashing my motorbike down in my van (I don't think I ever mentioned the motorbike before).

I like the Macan but who needs a baby SUV really? I've had my time with Porsche, got tired of them being so up their own ass. The practice of making overly basic cars in atrocious colours then raping your wallet for the 'options' and nice paint is wearing thin. Imagine how well this would go if it didn't weigh as much as a small planet.

I understand your point Flaming H, but would make the following counterpoints….. The base car is a blank canvas and is barely more money than some similar cars from much more hum-drum manufacturers. You get the functional vehicle and the Porsche underpinnings, that are SO strong. You can then morph the things into what suits you best 🤓 You can add all the performance parts, or make it super comfy and cossetingly leather lined. Or even both? Thusly, all (non GT models) once personally optioned, have such a broad customer catchment. (I do realise nobody really needs leather air vent slats though 🙄) I think the normal metallic paint options are the same price as almost any brand these days 🧐 I’ve found most of the Porsche staff to be delightful. No colonoscopies yet required, over the last 6 years of ownership 😀 Perhaps things have changed since the olden days? 😜

It's not just the luxury car tax. Porsches (especially the 911/718) are far more expensive here relative to the UK. While a Cayman GT4 is roughly line ball with a M3/M4 in the UK, here it's 40% more as a base and a 911 Turbo S is a direct F8 rival.

Leave high performance reviews to someone that have a clue. Linear accelleration on throttle actuation, no turbo lag so you don't get the head snap unless you press the accelerator more quickly. Shows you expected a Kia not a Porsche.

Porsche doesn't stand behind the quality of their vehicles. The ransfer case on my 2015 Macan S has failed twice now in only 27,000 miles. This is a known issue which caused Porsche to extend their warranty to 7 ys. Their "improved" transfer case lasted only 2 years 2 months and 9,000 miles. I am out of warranty by 6 weeks and Porsche turns their back on problem and sticks me for $3,200 repair. Don't buy a Porsche w/o extended warranty for entire length of time you expect to own it. #1 rated warranty company - Endurance - won't even sell coverage on Macan. That should tell Porsche and all potential buyers something. Customer experience is far from an expected premium car brand experience.
