That’s good playing! Well within the line’s ability and still challenging enough to keep clean. Bravo. The important thing is the music, not the grip.

Match grip is not used for marching snare if I did that I my high school my Drumline teacher would yell at me

@@drummersnare6276 why? it gets the job done. and these kids look in high schools, maybe younger. they aren’t trad-using blue devils yet

@@drummersnare6276 Also its easier to move percussionists on the snareline not having to teach a new grip with different muscle memory.

A lot of people spreading some hate on the snare line due to your educational decision. So I wanted to share some things I think your line does well to compensate. 1. There wasn't a lot of movement in this opening segment (not a bad thing, just what the show calls for) but what was here was really good. 2. I really appreciate the stick height contrast. They each have their own interpretation of what those heights are (which I'm sure you've worked on by this point) but each student is aware that there should be a height difference. 3. I really enjoyed the quality of the low-end doubles. Each low end double was treated like two sixteenth notes on the same hand rather than an eighth note diddle, which is a weakness I see in many high school groups. Fantastic work and I hope you guys have a wonderful season!

Thanks for your comment. I never thought this video would get so many views. I really just put it up for their sake and maybe locals. I wish some of our other vids blew up instead...lol. This was last season and there were no seniors on that line. Also, I became their instructor 3rd ballgame week in the season as their normal instructor wasn't there most of the year due to personal reasons. So I think if you watch our videos from this year, you will notice a difference as I have been working with them since May. It's a very talented group.

Here at CCHS we have the same snares, carriers, and covers. For the life of me I couldn’t play the snare with matched grip 😭

It’s not a fucking top 5 dci corps, it’s a high school. Believe me teaching them an entire new technique as opposed to adjusting matched grip which the kids already know for marching is an unnecessary waste of time and the result will be dirtier. The only advantage trad grip has is that it looks cool. That’s it.

Prob focus on getting the beats down before adding visuals..
@ringgoldtigerspercussion17242 жыл бұрын
They had the beats just fine in music rehearsals. And for when this was in the season, I'd say it wasn't bad while on the field. But for those who have marched a while, you know it takes more time to get the beats sounding competition ready while marching than standing still. When the beats are sounding good in music only rehearsal, we add visuals. Also, sometimes we add visuals while learning the music because then it just becomes like part of the music from the start. But thanks for commenting your opinion. Every program has their own way of doing things.

Why not?

It translates easily to bass and tenors. It's easier to get clean if you have an inexperienced line. I personally don't like matched but there's genuine reasons as to why a line would choose to do it
@brandonskaggs72962 жыл бұрын
To "MATCH" the easy writing of the music. Don't have 4 snares doing match with easy music have 2 or 3 hard music an traditional.
