TinyHouse and Offgrid Resources Great idea! I may attempt to make one, but I may try interchangeable grill plates to also use as enclosed type Bbq. One side had the grill ridges and other side is a griddle that can also be used as griddle or burner surface for pots. I may even build a warming oven in the back by leaving a small damper with tiny holes at the rear that can be opened up while its cooling down. You have inspired me for sure!

I found the opposite to be true in the fuel consumption area when burning in a rocket stove, I could go through a stack of wood in about an hour because the fire is so intense. Very nice idea with the stove you built, the u-shape under the cooking surface is good engineering!

There’s a project in Mexico bringing this type of rocket stoves to use at home, to use in place of the three rock fires that they use. You should check it out, they are made of clay but work the same way as yours does. Fantastic to cook for large families. Great video, would’ve liked to see the inside to see how it works. Keep those videos coming mate. Thumbs up!

Is a good stove..Insulate the walls and bottom. IF they are not and they are hot to the touch then is heat you are losing that is not reflected on the top. Do bricks inside or frame with clay or some insulating material outside. Let only the top surface hot and all heat will only be sent there since it cannot escape alsewhere.

That's pretty effective and very efficient. I use the small branches off the tree and hedge cuttings to fire in mine also. Probably this is the best I have seen actually and I've seen tons on U tube. You had it down draughting as well with the plate on the back.Well done will have a go at this because it's like having a 4 burner gas stove all on separate heat settings. The heat bricks do look like they make the difference, also forces the heat closer to the plate. Great in SHTF scenario.

I know!- Im pretty excited about this. Ill fire it up again as soon as the rain stops and try a longer flue. see if i can coax another 20C out of it
@billporter846
@billporter846 6 жыл бұрын
One thought what about an ash pan under the firebox lets it drop through a grill into an enclosed pipe for cleaning out, the problem for mine is eventually the pipe becomes clogged with ash so have to rake it out just wondering if the inner fire box on yours will accumulate ash in and around the fire bricks. If its hot enough there shouldn't be a build up with ash. Idea is to burn it down to minimal ash residue by the time it gets to flue pipe. Don't talk to me about rain we've had enough for this winter thanks.
@t.h.o.r.
@t.h.o.r. 6 жыл бұрын
Bill Porter that's what I do. I've put a brick just before the u bend and it stops the ash going all the way around. I just rake it out the side air flap. I'm putting an oven underneath next week so I can't have a ashpan without getting dirty pizza.

TinyHouse and Offgrid Resources I'm in the so called Super City north of you and looking to break out sometime in the new year.after I retire. I saw your home made crimper and it brought smile on my face, typical kiwi with #8 fencing wire mentality, if you don't have one make one lol worked a treat. Ahh so you created an ash trap inside the heat chamber, like it. I was wondering why the heat bricks didn't run round the whole chamber. Now it makes sense.

If you added insulation around the outside and on the bottom of your stove it would warm it up a bit more I would think. Plus, it would push the warmer temperatures more around the stove. At least it seems it would to me.
