I’ve got a 2022 Ram 3500 with the 6.4 hemi and use it to tow my 40’ fifth wheel toy hauler. Trailer weights 13,000 empty and 16,000 loaded with our stuff. I ordered the truck with 4:10 gears and it works quite nice! I drive transport for a living so I’m very familiar with diesels… but when it comes to my own money, I would rather spend a little more on my fuel bill and a lot less upfront and on maintenance. Sure, you always get the argument of resale value in a diesel, but I custom ordered my truck so I plan on having it for a while

Nice truck, I like the colour and the wheels! I bought a 21 2500 with the 6.4 as well - around here I feel like I’m the only one, since most get the diesel. I’ve had it two years, and went up from a 1500 as I felt our trailer was just too much for the half ton (only 7500 lbs loaded, but 34 feet and we’re usually pulling through the Rockies). I’m really liking it. Not fancy like our old Laramie was (it’s just a Big Horn) but everything I need and just drives so nice for a HD. Thanks for sharing this video!

Ram has the best looking truck on the road, I was turned off from ram though due to crappy dealership and not honouring warranty issues. I own a 2019 2500 duramax . If I had my time back I would have bought the same truck in a gas engine. The price of diesel is outrageous. All the advantages of a diesel are gone now. The new gas engines can do the job when needed. Burning a little more gas is much cheaper than running and servicing a diesel truck these days.

These trucks come with diesels for the guys who are going to actually work with them. Pulling the family camper to the lake twice a year isn't work and am appropriate use of the Gas truck. Diesels are actually simpler than their gas counterparts, use less fuel overall highway driving or hauling. When you factor in the difference in longevity and maintenance of a Diesel v. A Gasser it starts to become clear that if you plan on using it for any type of actual work you buy the Diesel!

We purchased a gas truck to tow our 36ft fifth wheel 12k lbs GVWR - I regret not going diesel. Hills suck, low speed throttle suffers and always having to find a large truck stop to fit at the gas pumps is always a bit nerve wrecking. If I had to do it over, I would go diesel regardless of maintenance costs and fuel.

Had a 6.7 Cummins for towing our 5er. It pulled great but today's diesels have way too much emission crap. First time you have a DPF, EGR, High Pressure Fuel Pump, Turbo, Injector etc,etc you will go gas. Also if you pick up bad fuel which is more common with diesel it's on you. Manufacturer does not cover. My new truck is a Ram 3500 with 6.4l Hemi and 4:10 rear. Pulls our 14,000# fifth wheel fine. No it doesn't pull like my Cummins did but it still does the job and doesn't break the bank to keep it on the road.

Yeah except when you go to the resale you're going to lose a lot of money on a gas truck and you'll be suffering the whole time your towing because the diesel has way more torque. Also, you'll be working the engine hard so the gas mileage well you'll make up the difference. You should watch real world videos on people towing and gas mileage of the Cummins versus the gasoline engine. Have you plan on keeping the truck for more than a couple of years? Getting a diesel will more than pay for that checking of the box when it comes to resale as long as you check four-wheel drive.

Im a diesel mechanic. The 6.7 Cummins are pretty great engines, but all of the Emissions BS on new diesels is where you will have issues. If you get a new diesel, you must get the Extended Emissions Warranty. I'd say there's a 99% chance that warranty will pay for itself. Once that warranty is up, sell or trade in the truck.

This is another reason I went back to gas. The emissions stuff kills trucks and itself.

Great advice. These small diesels are the fleece ops for the big 3. Fleece the diesel option @ 10k upfront, fleece the options to Laramie/Lariat minimum. Trans dropped into 8th gear vs. 7 in Tow mode and occasionally the ECO light would come on (running in 4 cyl. mode). Mileage ranges from 10 - 12 on average. Have towed in the Rockies without a problem keeping up or slowing down. Great tow vehicle.

@@bobmariano3731 Yes, we did Colorado right after we got the truck and did Rocky Mountain National Park up and down several passes. Truck did fine towing the Airstream. I used the adaptive cruise which downshifted along with braking. I also used the manual gear selector on the steering wheel to engine brake - never felt like the brakes were taxed. Trans temps stayed within normal range too. The 2500 is built to take it with the 6.4 gas engine. And it’s 900 lbs less than a comparable diesel.

The maintenance on my 2015 2500 cummins is only the oil and fuel filter change. I do it myself once per year. Oil at costco is about $35, Oil filter is $15, air filter is $25, fuel filter at the engine bay is $50, fuel filter under the bed is $100. I never buy brand names and I never had any problems. Total is only $225 per year. A gasser will be around $125. So $225 is not so bad enough to not get a diesel.

2015 6.7 Cummins owner here. It pulls great but the maintenance and fuel costs have been crazy. I'd go gas if I could do it over. Replacing injectors cost me $4500, DEF costs, higher fuel costs, fuel filter change costs, and God forbid the emissions systems fouls up. Not even close to being worth it even if the sticker price was the same (which it isn't). If you roll the dice and PAY to delete it, it just puts you further in the hole because the fuel mileage gains aren't enough to pay for itself in a million miles. I tow a lot and I don't see the benefit to diesel. Go gas...not even close. At one time diesel made sense but those days are gone; it's simply a status thing at this point.
