2021 Salsa Mukluk Bike Check and Review

Winter is here and a new ride from Salsa. 2021 Mukluk Deore 11 speed. Testing it in my local trail and it is sure fun to ride this bike! Check video and turn on the sound. Correction please: the Cassette is 11-51 not 10-51. But still Shimano 11speed M5100 series. Cheers!

I have a 2017 Mukluk. I love it. I ride it almost everyday. Put Jumbo Jims on it in the dry months and its fast everywhere. Put grippy tyres on it in the mud months and its a go anywhere machine.

Agree about the brakes. I have this exact model and swapped out the brakes for Shimano SLX 4-piston w/ 180mm rotor in front w/ standard SLX 2- piston in rear using the Tektro 160mm rotor, which is Shimano compatible. Much better stopping power and modulation.

I agree about the brakes... about the only thing I don't like - The feel in the levers is fine, I think you're right that the 160mm rotors just don't bite and stop as quickly as 180mm would. It's more of a slow coast to a stop, probably doesn't help that I'm a fatso either. However, I looked at other fat bikes and most seem to spec 160mm so it might just be they feel is fine for the purpose of these bikes, i.e. probably not cruising particularly fast in the snow/sand or taking ridiculous downhill trails at speed. Also seemed to have gotten better after they wore in a bit, either that or I got used to them.

Hi , really good video. I was wondering if you could answer me a quick question. I am literally about to order an XL of the same bike, am 6'5 quite tall. But I have now found a BEARGREASE SAUCE X5 which is alot cheaper nearly 1000 dollars. Which is the better bike.?

Please count the number of teeth on the small sprocket of the cassette. Salsa claims an 11-speed 10-51 cassette, but there is no such cassette, I have searched through a huge number of sources and there is no mention of this cassette anywhere.
