Can’t comment on the previous version but I picked up this version in S build w/ the GX drivetrain. 200 miles on the bike. Really high quality and fun bike, punches above its pay grade on the descents. Feels like more than 130 and burlier than most bikes in this category but still very playful and loads of fun. Grip with the DHRs is off the charts but slows it down a bit so I’ll go to faster rubber later. Overall super happy with the purchase.

Pinkbike I got a chance to ride the new Tallboy in Durango CO with the VPP and slacked out HT this past week, and I have to say I think it’s helped to bring me over to the dark side of 29ers! Tried them long ago but didn’t like the wide steering needed and missed the poppy and playfullness of a 27.5. This bike, minus the low BB height and pedal slamming cranks, got me hooked. This bike is basically the same but in a 27.5 version. I may have the best of both worlds?!

When I saw all the new 5010 video titles in my recommendation list, I had that pit in my stomach given that I purchaed the 5010 V3 in March. But I'm glad I have the last of the 5010s because the new one sure resembles a Bronson etc and kind of loses the "BMX" of MTB category in my opinion. Love my 5010.

I'm new to these style of bikes, and I know your comment is old so I hate to be a pest, but could you elaborate a little bit more on the version you have vs this new one? There is no way around the weight gain, when people want stronger tyres, rims frames and forks at the same ammount of travel. This bike is the same as a 160 or even 180mm bike, just with less travel.
@mrsmartypants_14 жыл бұрын
They keep getting heavier because carbon keeps breaking. The endless stories of weight weinie roadies destroying carbon frames and wheels is amazing. Sometimes experiencing life threatening crashes. Mtb manufacturer’s are realizing durability is more important than the race to the bottom in weight savings.
@faf.784 жыл бұрын
@@mrsmartypants_1 If you research carbon destructive testing (Pinkbike has a great video on their channel) the current layup of even their older frames and Reserve wheels are damn near overkill. Pete West - I’m well aware, I’m currently riding a 2020 Hightower, and it rips! The basis of my comment was more from other comments here, and conversations with riders looking to make the jump from a hard tail to their first FS. The alloy 5010 used to be a contender for that FS jump, and with the advent of LBS bikes like Ripmo AF, I’m sad to see SC neglect that part of the market. I’m a Santa Cruz zealot thru and thru, but I think there’s been a mis-step in the spec/lineup. While $3k isn’t cheap by any means, it’s definitely more palatable to more people.

Why bother posting? A Demo C S+ was $3k. Not everyone can afford a $10K reserve bike, or a $13k Heckler. If you can't, buy what you can afford and stop being jealous of everyone else that can. Buying a top end bike might be a pinnacle buy for some people, and still way less than a a new Sports Car or Jeep Rubicon. BTW: I saved up $50 a year for 6 years to eventually buy a snowmobile. When I moved to a location with no snowmobile trails, I sold it and got the Demo bike.That bike was essentially 6 years of savings overall for me and selling my "one"toy for another. That and I drive a super old car so I have no car payment. Choices.... Choices.

Great bike , rides smooth kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing .

a Milling: Not that hard of a choice really. If you’re into top speed with the most control from flat trails to downhill whether fun flow trails or steep knar get a 29”. If you’re more into fun and love jump trails etc... get a 27.5”. (All other things equal of course like suspension etc...). I ride a 27.5, 160mm ff; 150mm rear shock. I’m far from a high end rider but with my group of buddies who all ride 29” I own the steep fast quick turning downhill stuff and have more fun on jumps. On flow trails - bluish black - they have me by a nod. On more XC type easy trails and aerobic peddling in general they leave me gasping. If I raced - any kind of racing - I’d ride a 29” for sure.
