I’m a huge fan of the poison line also, but the NRX+ is in a league of its own. The Exsense is phenomenal. I, too, enjoy the vanford, but it’s not in the same world as this reel. You’ll love it!

Hi thanks for the review. When it comes to reels with mgl rotors how would you compare it to the 23 Vanquish? I guess i am wondering which one should i get in 2024? Love the looks of the 21 Exsense but also love the idea of a slow oscillation on the 23 Vanquish. So damn many great choices. I own the 23 Vanquish 4000XG but I want to get a c3000 size reel with MGL rotor. Recently i purchased the 24 TP c3000XG, it has feel of robustness like a small tank but it does feel different to my Vanquish 4000. I do prefer the feel of the Vanquish.

I wish I could help ya. I haven't owned a vanquish, so I wouldn't be able to give you my opinion of them. The Exsence has been awesome from day one, though. I have enjoyed using it and find myself picking it up every chance I get.

Absolutely same if not better than Certate. I've used every reel out there and I can name 3 reels that top the game. Exsence 21, Vanquish 19, Exist 18 is it... period. When factoring in weight, power, smoothness on the water, and style. They all pretty much equal out. Certate is nice, but that weight is noticeable after hours on the water. Smoothness is all relative. It may feel smoother in hand, but everything changes when rigged up. I do like the monocoque design Daiwa has going on, but I still prefer the slim lined performance of the Exsence and Vanquish.

I bought the Twin Power XD 21 3000 size and was not too impressed with it. So if this is way smoother than that then this will be the one to get. @@bestthingsinceslicedrice Daiwa smooth and Shimano smooth are two different animals...remember that when deciding. I actually love my TP XD, but the Exsence is definitely lighter more airy feeling. Then again two different reels with two different purposes. I just prefer the bail and rotor mechanism on the high end Shimano over Daiwa...so I would say go for it !

I'm just now getting into the ball game of high end spinning reels, so I will not be any help. However, I've never felt a reel more smooth or lighter than the Exsense that I just picked up. It's stupid feeling in your hands. My brain has a hard time processing all the stuff that's in the reel and it still feels as light as it does. Reels smooth as butter and the drag is awesome.

The twin power XD is basically the Exsence in aluminium body, different paint job, handle knob and carbon drag washers. The certate while heavier than the Exsence is noticeably smoother.

Brother, how much 15 V2 did you get on your reel? I just got one. I bomb baits a mile for snook and reds…. Was nervous that after a long cast… they can run and take me to school. I didn’t quite realize how shallow the M spool is. I’m considering going down to 8, just to make sure I have enough line! What are your thoughts? The specs online look questionable. I like asking a dude with the reel!

I wish I could tell you how much I got on there. I buy 15lb V2 in 2,500 yd spools, so I just reel it on there until it's full. I am only a bass fisherman, so the amount of line doesn't concern me as much as it would you fighting those big reds! 8lb power pro has shown to have breaking strength of around 26lbs which is crazy. Is there really a true 3000 body out there? This is a C3000 and I belive that is a 3000 rotor/spool on a smaller 2500 body?

@@andersriksson100 Exsence is avliable in C3000 (MHG, M), 3000 (MHG), and 4000 (MXG) sizes. So yes, one of the model is a true 3000 body and a M-sized spool that carries #0.2 PE (iirc) less line than standard spool size.

Hey Jake! Man, to be honest, they are in two different worlds when it comes to spinning reels. The Vanford is super nice and I enjoy fishing them. However, when you pick up the Exsence you’re not going to want to put it down. That said, it’s around double the price too, so you have to take the into consideration. If you have the extra money, I say go for the Exsence, but you won’t be let down with the Vanford either. I just feel like everything about the Exsence is smoother, more quiet, and a little lighter. You’re getting a rigid support drag, and a Hagane body with the Exsence that you don’t get with the Vanford as well. If you don’t think you’d want to drop that much money, the Twin Power is a stellar reel too.

There are some. 2021 has longer spool, bearing in rotor nut, reduced mass rotor, single rod support on worm drive (old one has 2 rods) bushing on rear end of worm drive ( old one had bearing) and a different design to keep water out of the rotor but still the same hydrophobic coating.

I like your vids man so this is some constructive criticism don’t take it as me hating because I’m not. This seems like less of a review and more of a product promotion for Shimano. Are you sponsored by them in some way? Are you on their prostaff? Are they an affiliate of the channel of some sort? If you’re not getting paid you promote their products then I wouldn’t be doing it, don’t get me wrong I love my 2020 Shimano metanium mgls, my metanium dcs, my Stella and my Exsence a and all my GLoomis Glx 842,843,844c mag bass rods, my Nrx jwr rods ( Im waiting on 4 nrx+ rods, 2 mag bass and 2 jwr rods all casting) and my imx pro rods but I wouldn’t be making videos promoting their products if I wasn’t getting paid or free gear but that’s just me lol tight lines brother.

I appreciate the support. I am a high school teacher for my actual job which doens't pay the greatest. I am on the Shimano "Pro-Staff" and I use that term loosely because it get too often overused and looked at like a pro-staff is just a bunch of guys who are alright with getting a 10% discount from the company. I am affiliated with Shimano through my local tackle shop, Tackle Box in South Point, Ohio. The fine folks at Shimano probably don't even know that I exist. My goal is to educate the people who may be in the market to buy these high end rod and reels to help them make a better, more informed decision on what to buy. The end goal for me in my position is to build awareness of new products and send business to my local shop. If I didn't have this affiliation, I would never be able to afford a $1,300 comb as you see here in this video....
