Join our family on our May 2021 trip to the Sylvania Wilderness as we camp on Coyote and Fox 2 campsites. We launch on Crooked Lake, and paddle and portage our way through High Lake, Kerr Lake, West Bear Lake, East Bear Lake and Mountain Lake before returning through Crooked Lake.

Nice that you can still have a campfire over there, as we have been reading about all the extreme heat you guys have been getting and the wildfires that have been breaking out. A lot of hiking on day 2 to the new lake but worth it for the view at 9.10. It sure looked and sounded peaceful on day 4, despite the cold nights and getting out before the rain hits sounds a dam fine idea to me. When you looked on the map, it sure looked like you done some mileage on this trip, cheers Alan

That was in the month of May, now it is more dry and there are bans in many areas. Thanks for watching!

Almost as much hiking as canoeing. No campfires here we are in stage one fire ban for the forest and badlands.. Big circle route... Lots of paddling.

Looked like a nice trip. That Fox campsite sure is high off the water. Love the flower photos. Thanks for sharing!

Maybe you've camped in Sylvania. All the campsites are off the water. Many are also up a short but steep hill.

@@nibimocs they aren't too far from the water but none of them are right there on the water with the gorgeous BWCA kitchen views.

I really enjoyed your video. I noticed you spend a lot of time in Sylvania Wilderness Area. I'm a first timer heading up there this fall to see the colors. What would you recommend for a good 2 night 3 day or 3 night 4 day loop. Not sure if I'm staying 2 or 3 nights at this time.

It's not a big area like the Boundary Waters so if you are accustomed to big trips it will feel small. That best way I know to make a loop is put in on Crooked, you can go clockwise or counterclockwise, the portages are short there, direction doesn't matter. Anyhow Crooked to Mountain to East Bear to West Bear to Kerr to High back out to Crooked is the best loop I know there. We usually pick campsites by what's open on the reservation system. Campsites are by permit unless you're going late fall through early spring.

I should add there are not any big good loops like the big canoe wilderness areas, if you go online and see.the map you'll see its a very small wilderness area.
