It sounds like the Forest Service may not have the entrance station open regularly or possibly at all during 2023.

This might sound silly... But where do we park?
@hemlocksandloons Жыл бұрын
If gong in by canoe there are parking areas at both the Clark Lake boat launch and the Crooked Lake boat launch. If you are hiking, all of the trail heads have parking.

I am trying to find the old growth forest. It sure seems like it has been logged off in the past and I noticed in your videos that the shorelines do not have any huge trees, that I can see. perhaps they don't live that long and die off? I have been back on the trails back around 1992 and found the west side of clark lake to have some old trees. Thanks for the videos and info.

Thanks for watching. There are plenty of old growth out there. The issue with the shoreline is the wind. The big pines tend to be back a bit off the shore. There are no true stands of old growth pine as they are scattered just due to the natural ecology of the area. There are stands of old growth hemlock such as the south corner of Clark Lake. There are tons of old hardwoods as well. The best way to see the big tree is by trail or head off the trail into the woods.
