This is easily the best large SUV in the price range. Incredible value for money. I took mine off-roading in the Victorian high-country (Australia) last week and it handled everything with ease. I also towed my large caravan and it was absolutely brilliant. 👌🏽

I have the 2020 Rexton ultimate and it has so many useful features. The cooling seats are my favourite. It’s great for towing the caravan which weighs almost 3 tonnes. Great value for money 4x4 which has automatic diff locks that work well.

Now I own a 2015 Rexton W 2.0 XDi. Done 102.000 km on it. Incredible car, very good quality. Done fuel efficiency 8,7 l / 100 km last weekend. Previously I owned 2013 SsangYong Korando 2.0 XDi - also a good car, but I had changed clutch 2 times before I sold it after I did 98.000 km. My dad has a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3,8 V6 - best car in his opinion. Previously he had 1995 Hyundai Sonata. And the most curious thing is that our family lives in Warsaw, where SsangYongs or Genesises are oddeities on 4 wheels. But we love "kimchi cars". Greetings from Poland to all, and You, Mr. Asian Petrolhead. Keep filming the tests. Do You wanna some reports of long milleages of Rexton or Genesis in Poland?

The Rexton is actually cheaper than the Mohave, the price he quoted was for the fully loaded "The Black" model. It's also interesting that Ssangyong is starting to gain interest in Australia, especially the Musso and Rexton, as we Aussies love diesel powered 4WDs (wagons and pickups) that have great towing capacity. Personally, I think Kia is frigging STUPID for keeping the Mohave exclusive to Korea. It would SELL LIKE HOTCAKES in Australia because it's diesel, body-on-frame, 4WD, has decent brand recognition and has a decent towing capacity. The Hyundai Palisade is a JOKE, it's only an AWD despite being big, heavy and having a diesel engine.

Korea is absolutely killing it in the SUV segment. I bought my wife a Palisade Limited and my brother just got the KIA Sonata X-Line. Nothing seems to come close for the price, wonderful vehicles. I think that Rexton has been around way before 2017, but with motors and transmissions produced by Mercedes. In 2017, Rexton started producing their own motors but were still using Mercedes G7 transmissions. I think this 2021 facelift is the first Rexton 100% Korean (motor + transmission). I think it looks awesome and I will definitely consider buying one. Ohh, thanks for the early and first hand reviews of the Korean auto market and congrats' on your english :-)

Good video Charlie! But this is definitely not a Palisade competitor. This competes with the Kia Mohave and to me, the Kia is superior. I'd only buy the Rexton if it were a lot cheaper. And it's not.

There seems to be a bigger dealer network around Aust now, so hopefully the fallout will be kind and continues as usual. I liked the review and not really looking to compare to the Hyundai, but would compare more to the D90 SAIC LVD, as they have also landed here in Australia. Currently I have a have a Kia and Hyundai vehicles, and very happy with Korean made vehicles. I am interested in its towing ability as the Rexton is 3500kg tow rated, so I will look to see what local reviews give it.

AlfaMega A No Mahindra cancelled the Alturas last month & are presently trying to dispose of SsangYong who've gone bust & are going into court receivership next week (steer well clear!)

Great review! You clearly enjoy your work and that's nice to see. Sadly, this vehicle in Australia lacks satnav and adaptive CC, which for me was something of a deal-breaker. It comes across as a high-quality vehicle though, and well thought-out in its design. Thanks for the performance and economy figures and especially putting them in modern and archaic measurements. The braking performance seems excellent and I tend to rate being able to stop as rather important. From the side it looks nicely proportioned, but from the front, very bluff and forceful. Sadly, the CC and sheer intimidating height of it (my tiny wife had to pack a lunch and water bottle before clambering up into the driving position) saw it crossed-off our list. I love it though.

@@AsianPetrolhead I can't understand why they'd do that either. A Sorento GT-Line is about 20% more, and an Outback Touring slightly cheaper in Oz. So it can't have been for price-competitiveness.

Mystery solved re the cruise control, AP: I filled-in a form on the Ssangyong Oz website. They called me back. Apparently, the electric power steering used in left-hand drive markets is replaced with hydraulic for right-hand drive, and this interferes with the fitting of the adaptive cruise control thingies. The Rexton was introduced in 2001, while the second generation (featured in this video but pre-facelift) was introduced in 2017. I do like the second generation better and there’s a black edition in my city in Korea and it looks good.

That turning signal at the rear bottom bumper annoys me a bit. No car driver is used to a location like that, when a car is turning front of him. Ok, everybody should keep a safe distance but i think this a risk for accidents to happen.

I drove a Ssangyong pick up for a while, it was quite confortable for a pick up and the engine had a lot a couple but the interior material were quite in bad shape after a while catching all the dust on the dashboard , knowing that I lived in a sunny hot part of the world. Hope they upgraded it and I will be ready to buy this big boy.

Ssang Yong, according to the Australian reports have gone bankrupt. The company says all warranty and repairs will continue to be honoured. So, 2hat news, if anybdo you have regarding their financial problems? I understand Ssang Yong is currently owned by mahindra of India and they want out.

They have gone bankrupt (Lost & Owe millions) & the only Co that wants to buy them is a small US Auto distributor called HAAH who want to move production to the USA and sell under the Vantas Branding....Steer well clear! I've recently sold a 2016 S.Yong Tivoli XLV from new a mechanical disaster.

For me this Ssangyong Rexton has this kind of more rugged image and design. It is nice inside, but doesn't have this premium approach like others. Either way, it's always good to have competition and diversity.

Its not looking good for SsangYong At the moment the only Co interested in buying them is a small US Auto distribution Co called HAAH who haven't enough money to buy SsangYong Motors not alone develop new cars. Their plan is to assemble SsangYong cars in the USA and badge them as "Vantas"

Love the Rexton over the Palisade. To ever make it to America and survive, it will need to be equipped as well as the Santa Fe Caligraphy or the Palisade, have a V6 gas and available Htrac for that price. The looks of the Rexton exterior and interior are much nicer than the Telluride or Palisade.
