I just purchased a '21 Limited Crosstrek, and this video is perfect! Thank you for making it for newbies like me. I was wondering, does the AUTO Stop/Start stay turned off by default? I noticed, it was "on" for the first few days I drove it, but now (2 weeks in), I have to press that button every time I get into the car,. I also notice, the engine doesn't shut-off when I'm stopped at a light anymore, even with the icon showing it being "on".

Ride quality is great and the 2.5 makes a world of difference over the 2.0. You're going to have folks chime in about the manual making the 2.0 perform better, that's a false statement. Performance is unchanged vs the 2.0 CVT Auto 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. The rpms the manual generates fools your brain a bit.

So I got a 2021 sport crosstrek earlier this year. It isnmy first new car ever (I am 32) and I was coming off owning a 2003 taurus for 13 years straight. I originally rolled my eyes at the keyless entry and start, but I'll be damned if I haven't been converted, so when you said that the inclusion was a game-changer, I just wanted to back that up because I was such a skeptic.
@alexpmo3 жыл бұрын
It’s a simple feature, but it’s hard to go without once you experience the convenience of it. It’s also nice having the ability to set up remote start from your phone with the MySubaru app (only cars with keyless entry can do that)

Another issue I discovered with the lane control is if you are on a tight road and you attempt to pass someone on a bicycle, the second you move to the left to pass the biker, the lane sensor will pull you back into your lane like it’s supposed to . However it doesn’t “see” the biker! I almost hit a guy on his bike because of this feature. I had to fight the pull back so I didn’t hit the guy. Now I only use it on the highway.

Alex, very informative video and thanks for posting it. One question, I recently purchased a 2021 CrossTrek limited edition with 2.5 engine. While I appreciate the multitude of safety sensors on the car, I find the ability of the car to turn itself off at every traffic light to be extremely annoying. After watching your video and going through the manual I thought once I turn off the "engine off" switch, the car won't turn itself off at traffic light. That very annoyingly doesn't seem to be the case and I have to remind myself to manually press that switch off every morning. So, my question is, is there a way to permanently disable the "turn off engine" feature on the car? I went to the local Subaru dealership and no one knew how to disable that switch. One can argue that turning the engine off at every traffic light saves fuel, but it must be said that it also heavily shortens the life of the starter unit, and considering the fact that the installation of a new starter is around $800 - $1000 at a Subaru dealership, I'm not sure that turning off the engine at every stop is a smart idea, just my two cents. So, how does one go about permanently disabling that feature on the CrossTrek? Thanks.
@danielfair46752 жыл бұрын
I have a '21 Limited. If you're light on the brake pedal, in other words don't push it thru the floor the auto start/stop won't activate. It's something you have to become accustomed to, aka: how you use the brake pedal delicately 😉, but it does work. There is an Autostop Eliminator available if you want to go that route. The dealership isn't going to tell you this because it goes against their manufacturer wishes.

With the safety features that you can turn off or on, do you have to turn them off every time you start the car? Or do they stay off until you turn them back on again?
@alexpmo3 жыл бұрын
The safety settings will stay in the last setting that you set. So if you turn them off, they will stay off. However, the auto start/stop feature will always be on by default each time you get in the car.

The new 2.5 on the Sport and Limited trim levels is a subtle increase in power (about 30 more horse power). I’m enjoying your videos. Lots of great info! I currently drive a ‘99 Tahoe. I’ve decided 2022 is when I’m going to finally buy a new car. I’ve always liked the Crosstrek. Drove one a few years back and it was very nice. Decided it wasn’t a good time financially to bite the bullet and get into making car payments after yrs of no payments. We also have an ‘07 Express Van we bought new and only has 70k. Tahoe has 145k. We’ve had it since ‘09. We are 2nd owner. I’m ready for a new smaller, more sporty vehicle. Looks like buying new it will be best to decide exactly what I want, order it and resign myself to fact it will take at least a couple months. My question: is now the better time to sell the Tahoe and get along with just the van until the new car arrives instead of waiting? Thanks for all your videos!!
@alexpmo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Diana! I appreciate you for watching my videos. Glad to hear you've found value in them. If you have something to drive now, you could go ahead and sell to cash in at the peak of the used car market. However, you should also consider the potential tax credit you will get as trade in vs selling it outright. When you sell it outright, you won't get tax credit. When trading in, you should get your trade value and your tax credit. For example, in the state of Kentucky we have a 6% sales tax. If your car is worth 10,000, you can sell it for that amount or trade it in for that same amount. When trading in, you would get your 10,000 plus a 6% tax deduction. In this case it would be 600 so in total you would net 10,600. Hope this makes sense. I'd double check with your local retailer when getting a quote on your new car because they will be able to tell you get the tax credit. They can also give you an offer on your trade which will help you determine whether it makes sense to sell now or trade in later when your car comes in. If they only offer you 1,000, the net amount with tax savings isn't going to change much. And in that case it might make more sense to sell now to lock in your offer at the current market value.

You’re talking about shifting gears. There are no gears. It’s a CVT.
@danielfair46752 жыл бұрын
The CVT still "acts" as a 7 or 8 speed auto. The paddle shift option does increase shifts when you get it out of auto mode and into SI-Drive. It acts as a 7 or 8 speed with preset ratios, depending on the model. Which can actually help the mpg ratings. I can run about 77-78 mph with the 2.5 and only tack 2,000 rpms. Its actually kind of a misunderstood transmission. This is the first CVT I've owned at 56 years old. And it's not that hard nor different than a standard 4-cylinder equipped vehicle. You don't get the "chirp" you get from a v8 automatic sports car, lol.
