It beeped as it recognized the ambulance @8:02 as soon as it crossed to your lane, Subaru’s’ UI for identifying lane changes is superb!

I had a close call with my 2021 Subaru Forester last night. I think I remember where it happened and why. - Driving south from Amana, Iowa, on highway 151, I turned east onto highway 6 towards Iowa City. - I had Lane Centering Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control both enabled. - Everything seemed normal and the car was following the initial long bend to the left. - The T-intersection with Homestead's 4th Avenue was ahead on my right. - 4th Avenue widens, at the intersection, allowing cars to wait side-by-side, for left and right turns onto highway 6. - Apparently the Assist did not recognize this as an intersection and decided to split the difference. - I realized the Assist had driven off the highway and was heading me towards the ditch. It allowed me to take control and drive back onto highway 6. No more using it on highways with uncontrolled access. I don't know if I'll risk it with interstates.

It would be awesome if you can test the stop and go functionality in heavy traffic

I've been using the adaptive cruise control on our 2018 Subaru for a couple years and it works great. I just used it for a 4 hour drive from San Francisco to Tahoe. I set it to 65 and it will follow the car in front if the speed drops to 50, 40, 30 down to 0, then back up to 65. I still always keep my eyes on the car in front of me, but it works well and I use it all the time in stop and go traffic. Same for 2021.

@@joshbloom9646 In a scenario where you need to deviate from the path of the car ahead like take a different path, will the system beep or fight you in anyway when you try to defeat it by manually steering it when it's engaged? I wonder how feasible it is to say do a full commute with only minimal engagement of the steering wheel so it knows you're alert. I'm also curious if you can simply placate the system with just a single finger at 6 rather than have one hand at 9 and 3 or both. Yes, I've adopted some lazy habits over the years since my passing my driving test and on my commutes with my nonexistent assistive car, I usually manipulate my slight corrections with just one hand positioned at 7 or 8 o'lock position. It's a manual and I'd like to get something which is safe, easy to drive and as autonomous as my wallet can afford hence the Crosstrek.

I love how he's talking about the features of Subaru and Lane centering and then a Tesla shows up right next to it.

I really don’t like the feeling of the lane Center if assist and the adaptive cruise control as well. It’s also totally useless up the the North were we have snow and put sand on the roads. My Crosstrek 2021 came with Eyesight I wish this could be optional on the model I bought with the 2.5. System was designed for perfect weather condition. Feels like a prototype to me. It’s certainly a system I don’t trust at all. Yes trust me keep your hands on the wheel at all time.

Thanks, is it noisy on the highway?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
The Subaru Crosstrek has a little bit stiffer suspension compared to our 2018 Outback. So, it rides a little harder and it's a makes a little more noise on the freeway. Seems normal for a car of this size and price range.

Thanks for posting. Does it actively keep it "centered" or is it simply like Lane keep assist that results in ping pinging between the lane markers? Is there a minimum speed the vehicle must be traveling before Lane centering will work? Does it have heads up display? How is the padding on the seats?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
For the 2021 Eyesight system it actively centers the car in the middle of the lane. On our 2018 it only has Lane Keep Assist so the 2021 is a big upgrade. The 2021 does not ping from side to side, the 2018 doesn't center and will ping side to side.

@@joshbloom9646 So 2021 is active while 2018-2020 is passive? What happens when you ignore the prompts when hands-off driving? Does the systems disengage causing the car to slow down until it stops? I'm wondering how intelligent it is compared to say something fully autonomous like a Tesla in situations where someone has blacked out or become completely unresponsive. Some crude systems from yore have I believe cut off throttle, slowed down and have flashers engage.

Hi will the car stop for you if the car ahead of you stops all of the sudden? I just got my 2021 and reluctant to use it ...nervous that is...
@bradleyradziewicz143 жыл бұрын
Yes, the car will come to a full stop if the car in front of you stops. And once they start moving, so will your car. If it is stopped for more than 3 seconds, you just have to lightly tap the gas, or hit the cruise control resume button for it to move off again
@clerkhippo39663 жыл бұрын
They are designed to perform automatic emergency stop below 60km in dry conditions, but the car will alert you as soon as you are not reacting to the closing distances, prior the the automatic braking.
@clerkhippo39663 жыл бұрын
I would always apply brakes myself if there is no car in front of me, it’s not capable of bringing the car to complete stop if the car in front is stationary and you are travelling above 50km
@brandonfranklin81083 жыл бұрын
Does the new Crosstrek actually hold the stop because older one they come to stop then 5 seconds then u gotta applied the brakes to hold the car.
@joshbloom96463 жыл бұрын
It will hold the car in place with the adaptive cruise control once the car comes to a complete stop on the freeway. If you are just driving around the city and not using the adaptive cruise control you'll have to put your foot on the brake.

@@joshbloom9646 I tested my 2021 Crosstrek limited around the city with cruise control and lane centering on. The car comes to a full stop for 3 seconds then the icon flashes several times, I have to put my foot on the brake since it's moving forward. My 19' Forester acts differently, it stops and holds the stop until I move the stick on the wheel to start active cruise again. In your test on the freeway, does it hold the stop until you act or automatically starts moving after a few seconds?
@joshbloom96463 жыл бұрын
@@rchangus Sorry, it's my wife's car and I've never tested that on her car. On my 2018 Outback the car will come to a complete stop when traffic comes to a complete stop. The car won't start moving again until I hit the button on the steering wheel, or tap the gas pedal.
@deepbr00kАй бұрын
I don't use it. The movements are squirrelly and jumpy and tugs left and tugs right within the lane lines.

@Grant-du8ix3 жыл бұрын
I know I am late but, I think that you should be driving at least 20mph to activate ACC.
@treasurethetime24633 жыл бұрын
You can tape a hot water bottle with 6 to 8 oz of hot water inside to steering wheel and it will fool the system. Drivers hands free.
