These videos are a Godsend to me! I was overwhelmed with the number of features and the number of steps needed to operate this vehicle. I really needed written and/or recorded video instructions so I can watch the steps repeatedly in order to remember the steps when I actually was in my Subaru. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Alex !!!! Please keep them coming! :)

Useful video for my sons who won’t read the manual. You could also mention that the paddle shifters also work in drive mode if you need to quickly shift down, and then the car reverts to drive mode a few seconds later.

Thanks for your quick response, Alex, regarding motor auto shutoff. FYI: I am 74 and live in Las Vegas, where it’s very hot this time of year. My AC is always on, usually on medium to high fan speed, and the motor still shuts off at stop lights. Perhaps a good future option for Subaru to include would be option to fully shut off the auto stop feature. Thanks again, I often learn something new from your videos.

I have a 2021 Outback...love Subaru, this is my 5th one...and I love the tablet display, however, I wish the climate controls were more tactile. It's dangerous to have to look at the display to change some things, it would be safer to have some of the controls so that you could change them by feel.

Great video Alex. I wish you were the sales person who was at the car lot I purchased my 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness from yesterday. He just gave me the keys to take it out for a test drive and didn't go over anything. I am trading in a 2011 Subaru Impreza and I didn't even know how to adjust the seat with all the buttons and knobs. I'm used to 2011 technology with the pull bar under the front of the car. Keep up the great content creation. I'm sure I will be watching your other videos to see what all the buttons do and features the new car has.

While I love the larger display in the dash, I still wish they would have redundant buttons for some things. For instance, my 2014 Ram 1500 has an 8.4 inch display. However it has separate controls for the environmentalists and a few other things, as well as on the touchscreen. That would be perfect in my opinion.

Alex ... Dixie and I just added a second Subaru to our garage. Our first is a 2015 Forester, the new one is a 2019 Outback with only 16000 on the clock, it's like a new car but has a CD player, something I'm told is no longer available. We love your videos and will watch every single one to learn all the goodies in the new Outback. Your videos are so well done, not too fast, not too slow, with all the right information. One tiny detail ... everybody on KZbin constantly refers to the public as "you guys" ... step up a level and switch to "you folks"... it's very warm, personable, and my wife, Dixie, likes it 😁. Lots of Subarus are driven by wives, mothers, daughters, and girlfriends. 😂 Keep up the great site !!!

I love my 2021 Outback Limited, but they should have used a faster processor to run the infotainment center, AND it’s silly that a big graphic opens when you touch the seat heater buttons. What should happen, is you should see a light bar with each touch of the seat heater button, in the same location that you touch. Heck, they could have even added a physical button like the heater buttons. It’s clunky to open a whole different graphic to select the heating adjustment, just to show off the big screen and nifty graphic. Maybe they’ll address this in an update? I know our Tesla Model X constantly has updates to improve the touchscreen, which is absolutely amazing. Other than that, the Outback is amazing!!

I just ordered my first Subaru the other day - 2022 Outback Limited - I'm beyond excited to get it - curious about the logo sensor in the rear gate - does going through aa automatic car wash set this off and will open? Or does the car being in motion disable the feature for safety purposes? Might sound like a dumb question, but I had a few people actually ask this when I told them about the feature.

I'm betting it needs to be in park, with the engine off for it to work. Going through an automatic car wash, the car will have the engine running and be in neutral.

I am very much enjoying these videos, they are helping a great deal. I have a question please Alex, is the navigation able to be used whilst the car is being driven? My old Outback would not let me. My sister and I were really stuck in Brisbane (Australia) and could not use it at all unless we were stopped or almost stopped, which is not possible in the middle of busy traffic. The passenger was perfectly capable of programming it but no. You did say that we can plug in our phone for Google Maps, which would keep going, but it is the inbuilt system I am asking about. Thanking you very much indeed.

Hi Alex I have the Subaru 2021 Outback Touring XT and have some concerns about using the Auto Start/Stop feature that this vehicle defaults to. I'm concerned about the additional wear and tear of the starter, battery and engine wear by having the vehicle utilize this feature. I've heard some mechanics recommend disabling this feature every time you get into your car. I know that I can easily turn this feature off but is there any real long term harm in utilizing this Auto Start/Stop feature? BTW thanks a million for all of the awesome learning tutorial videos. @alexpmo

Hey Jonathan! I'm not sure there is a way to turn it off permanently. One work around however is to have your a/c on. Because the engine has to be on to blow cold air, it won't shut the engine off even if the a/c fan speed is on low.

Hi Alex, you know how to reset the camera on Subaru Outback 2021, as the rear view camera’s night mode sometimes not working (really dark at night), especially I did reverse straight after turn the car on. Thanks

How do you turn off the favorites icon on the radio preset, so the screen will not default to replay on sxm?

Yes, the button to turn it on/off is on the lower left hand side of the screen. It has an A with an arrow around it. This defaults on each time you start the car

I feel like I should be able to figure this out but Im struggling 😅 Could you do a video on how to unlock the passenger doors using the door handle. - without using key fob. And how to open the lift gate while inside the car. ie. in the car line and kids need to toss stuff in cargo area. ( I have a 2021 Onyx xlt )

Hey Tobi, you can open the lift gate from inside of your car while sitting in the car line with the button on the left hand side of the dash. It's right behind your left knee on the dash with a power lift gate icon on the button. To open the passenger doors without the key fob, you can click the unlock button on the driver's side door. Alternatively, you can also unlock the front passenger door without the key fob button just by walking up to it and pulling on the handle (this is the keyless access features). Keyless access does require the key fob to be near by like in your pocket.

I recently moved up to Alaska from Maryland however before I did my parents bought me my first car as a 21st birthday present which is a new and fully loaded white $45,000 2021 Subaru Outback limited trim how well would this car handle the nearly consistent sub freezing temperatures as well as the extreme environment and how do I get the best gas milage out of my new Subaru because the nearest city or town is about 675 miles away in any direction Anchorage is the closest major city to my new home, and can my new Subaru even go 675 miles on a single tank of gas? EDIT, Also very helpful thank you.

Congrats on the new Outback! I haven't had any experience with Subarus in sub freezing temps to provide any insight there. How often do you have to make the trip? It sounds like you'll need to travel with a spare tank of gas if there are no gas stations between your trip. The outback is rated for about 500 miles on a full tank of gas. Realistically most people probably get less than this because we all tend to drive a little faster than they do during testing. Not sure how else you can get better gas mileage besides driving the speed limit and using the auto start stop feature that's on by default.

@@alexpmo Understood, however I have yet to figure out if there are any gas stations within a 400 to 500 or so mile radius because I just moved up hear 3 weeks ago and I am not familiar with the aria at all and it is all very isolated up here so you might be right I probably should bring an extra large supply of gas with me just in case I run out plus some survival tools a flair gun and some extra food and water for at least a week in case of actuality getting stranded.

UPDATE as of 10/20/21: I decided on the Outback and have had it for 2 and 1/2 months and just over 3,000 miles now. I like the car a lot but as anticipated, the giant touch display is a pain for the climate controls. I don't like having to look at the screen to change them and it is a safety issue. I don't regret choosing the Outback but this remains an issue. I am considering both the Outback and the Forester right now. For long road trips, the Outback is really appealing but the fact you have to go through the touchscreen menu to adjust the climate controls is a likely deal breaker for me. I often adjust climate controls while I'm driving with easy to see buttons on my Honda Civic. With the Outback, I feel I would have to pull over every time I wanted to do that s it would be dangerous to be staring at a big touchscreen. I much prefer the simpler climate buttons on the Forester.

On a road trip my outback’s dash got the car icon (like it shows when cruise control is on) stuck on it permanently and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get it off even when cruise control is off. It’s driving me crazy. Can you explain how to get that setting off??
