Useful review, but that comment with the Leaf or a Bolt was as dumb and ignorant as it gets. You really have no EV other options in the US anymore (I am strongly considering the SR+, though, simply because it is the best buy at the moment).

14:28 the Model 3 is more efficient than the Model Y so it gets more miles per hour of charging than the Model Y at the same kW charge power. Tesla wall connector owners manual has a chart showing the MPH charge rate for each model per amp setting. If you plugged a Tesla Semi into your charger, it would get much less miles per hour. I hope that makes sense the way I explained it.

Is it a 2021? How's the supercharger charging rate with it? Will it get to to 150kwh charging at some points? Do you happen to know how long it takes to get from 20-80% at a supercharger?

@@danielcdeyoung it’s been a while since we have gone on a long road trip. I think it takes about 30 mins to charge from 20 to 80%. I think I get pretty close to 150kwh at supercharges. Regarding the different charging speeds it is all about the efficiency between the Model 3 SR+ (142 MPGe) and Model Y LR (125 MPGe). So you have the same on-board AC charger 110v or 220v in the US so you are getting the exact same kW of power, but to calculate added miles per hours you have to multiply with the MPGe giving the SR+ about 14% higher miles per hour on a home charger. Long range batteries will still have higher miles per hour and kW of power at a supercharger V3.
@trevormf
@trevormf 3 жыл бұрын
Regarding charging: you weren’t looking at the rate of charging, you were looking at miles gained, so of course the model 3 would show a higher number because it’s a more efficient vehicle. It can go further on the same amount of power.

I have a 2020 Bolt and the EPA estimated it at 259 per charge, I average 270 easily even when limited use of the a/c. It is very efficient and was only $27k. Yes, I also love the Telsa Model 3 but couldn't really justify spending over 14k more when the range is what is most important for me. I have no regrets as I love the Bolt and unfortunately, it is very underrated. It's a joy to drive and have driven from MA to NYC in just one 30 min charge.

Got my M3P March 25th. It has 2020.47 software as I believe almost everyone that got their cars Q1 had. Apparently it can take up to a couple weeks to get the new software and there's nothing you can do except wait. Also, aside from the rear heated seats, his car actually has almost all of the "Premium" speakers, they're just not activated. Hanshow sells an $80 wiring harness to activate those extra speakers to make his sound system better.

I am a Tesla share holder and love Teslas. However, Tesla over exaggerated their range claim. For example, a model 3 SR+ with a claimed 263 mile range would realistically cover about 220 miles. I wish Tesla’s range claim would reflect real world range.
@Gjeebs
@Gjeebs 3 жыл бұрын
You can get that range no problem but you have to drive the speed that warrants that range just like a gas powered car. The tough part is charging takes so long so you don’t run the battery down so much
@tbvv6729
@tbvv6729 3 жыл бұрын
@@Gjeebs I think to get the range advertised, you would have to drive at 55 mph under ideal conditions without using heat or AC. In my area if you drive 55 mph on the highway, you’ll get run over. The Hyundai Kona and other EVs are able to come closer or higher than their advertised range. Otherwise I think Tesla is ahead of all other manufacturers in their EV techs and back it up with my investment money. I think Tesla have a great future in the next 10 years.

Newer Teslas usually ship out with outdated software for stability purposes. It takes about a few weeks to a month for them to release updates to the newer vehicles, which I believe is done in batches. I had the same concern with my M3LR when I picked it up on March 27th. Thought I was doing something wrong, but turns out this is a normal thing.

My wife and I have put a order in for a new Tesla Model 3 Standard Range we'll pick it up in October 2022. If we wanted the Long Range Performance model we could get it in February. A 70 mile range boost with all wheel drive and a acceleration boost from 5.6 to 3.2 seconds 0-60 mph is nice but $15K more nice? We don't think so. The USA doesn't have many EV choices like the EU does and no Chinese cars at all I would buy a BYD if it were available. Hyundai Ionic 5 was our 1st choice but it's basically a phantom car in the USA there aren't any available for sale in our area and the dealers are not taking orders for them in our area. It's most convenient to think of charging speeds in distance per hour, but it's a mistake to confuse this with actual energy transfer and this is becoming more common as EV drivers begin to think of charging in distances. MPH/KPH is a great way to compare different *cars* on the same charger and even to compare different *chargers* on the same car, but it's not an energy metric and should not be used as such.

I believe that a smaller lighter battery has less resistance when pushing electrons so it is able to push at a faster rate than your larger battery in the Y. The higher the capacitance, the harder it is to push the electrons back to a state where it is "charged". If that makes any sense. I have to think back to the electromagnetism classes I took in college lol

The charging speed in miles per hour os considering the tesla's efficiency. Since you are comparing Nick's Model 3 charging speed to your Model Y charging speed, Nick's will have a higher mph since his will get more miles per KW. If you measure the speed in KPH they will be the same.

@Gjeebs my 2021 M3 LR says it has the latest update, but doesn’t have the boombox nor the latest UI. I looked it up. Apparently, newer Teslas don’t get the latest update to prevent the whole fleet from have the same update = same software bugs. My service app couldn’t help with that either!

I think you will find that if you had the car display on energy it would show your charging at the same kw os the model y. The model 3 is more efficient, that is why it shows more kms for a kw.

Charging speed in kW is exactly the same. The differences in charging speed in MPH is based upon how efficient your car operates when it is driven. If your efficiency is 300wh/Mile, you simply require more energy to go the same distance as a car that only requires 250wh/Mile. That said, a Model 3 will always have a faster charging speed in MPH than a Model Y. No amount of HydroSilex can change this.

Picked up my ‘21 M3LR at the end of March. When I did my test drive in a ‘20 it seemed the roof tint was much lighter than my ‘21, which is so dark you could watch a solar eclipse. Also noticed that your video shows a similar difference between your Y and your friend’s 3. Have been trying to find more info but only crickets on that issue. Did you notice the difference? As a fellow desert dweller it is ok with me, just curious why it is not publicized.

The standard model 3 definitely handles playfully, probably due to the lighter weight . I enjoy driving it compared to my wife’s Y performance.

For sure, it's actually the best handling. it feels lighter. It's the best EV for in the world for the price, Range and efficiency. I've sat in other EVs and they look like they're 10 years older especially in software and design

If you want to hold the car for long, at least for decade, than you should buy car with as bigger battery pack as it available, less charging cycles means less degradation of the battery. So as health you battery is, as high the resal value

Can someone explain the meaning of heat pump? I mean don’t all cars have heat pump? Are we talking about a heater for heating up the inside at winter time? Sorry for stupid question but it seams weird if all cars don’t come with heat pump. In that case from what year did they get it in m3? If I buy an earlier year without, can one upgrade to the new pump later?
