I just got my model 3 Performance 2 weeks ago and I would say that the quality is very good. Couple of minor things I've noted that I can live with but maybe addressed on the next service is the passenger and driver side door the driver side door seems to be a couple of millimeters High at the hinge and the passenger side is a couple millimeters low at the hinge and because of the lighted trim inside the car that becomes really apparent, and there's a creak somewhere in the driver's side seat. But otherwise the fit and finish on this car is as good as I've ever seen and both of these issues are going to be addressed on a service visit because there were things I noticed at delivery.

dude yes! Thank you for explaining this to people about the insurance claims. I just experienced that same BS that you were talking about around 7:00 about how even paying extra every month for "zero-deductible" windshield protection, and roadside assistance, etc. using any of these count as claims against insurance!! I had no idea about this until my Fiancé was just dropped by her insurance company for having 3 claims within 3 years (2 windshield cracks and 1 flat tire that needed a tow truck). and she paid extra for all those services, yet insurance dropped her for actually having to use them! its so frustrating that car insurance is mandatory and they can just drop you if you ever have to use their services! scummy business practices. Buyer beware.. I stopped paying my insurance extra for those services after learning that and will just pay out of my own pocket if i ever need roadside or windshield. FOH with them trying to count a windshield crack as a whole claim and raising rates or dropping people entirely from coverage just from needing to use that service that they pay extra for. spending tens of thousands on insurance coverage over the years, but god forbid if you ever actually need to use it, insurance companies will just say bye bye to you as a customer.

Gjeebs stated reasons for upgrading: 1) Low finance rate. 2) Creator content. Number 1 is reasonable IF you like the current model or need to replace your car NOW. However, you seem to have the current car set up just the way you like it. Trade up to the performance model? Number 2? What new content can you create with it? Everything is the same except for the processor and cameras. You have already done all the upgrade videos, travel videos, impression videos, accessories, etc. That only leaves a few new processor driven features. Logically you should wait for the refresh (if that still happens).

what is the cost of the car maintenance overall after 70,000 mile?
@efficientequilibrium29826 ай бұрын
Some critical points about MY performance as a previous owner of mid 2023 version: 1. It is fast on a straight line but by no means it drives sporty. It is actually very lackluster in terms of handling. 2. The efficiency is actually pretty close to the regular MY, if you drive it the same way avoid max acceleration the difference is just a result of wheel size. 19" on a myp yields same mileage. 3. Ride quality is better than the earlier models but still not good, I would have been ok with it if it handled better but it doesn't. Also the brakes calipers are just painted red otherwise brakes are the same as the regular model. The earlier models actually had better brakes, the later ones are just painted. 4. Finally, the car interior is cheap even after the upgrades in years. This was probably not a big deal several years ago because of the novelty and covid market but now it is beginning to show. It is outdated at this point and quality is not even close to the entry level vehicles from Japanese brands. After my test drive with the new model 3 I can say that it is a very significant improvement over this model y and the previous model 3. Much quieter, much better ride quality, much better material quality, the doors sound nice, seats are much better etc. It's by no means at a luxury car level, the build quality on the tester was still behind Japanese cars but it was close enough to overlook these things. If they bring new model 3 improvements to model y that would be a big step up. I don't think one should get this one unless the price is very good or they need a vehicle immediately. Awaiting your video on the new performance model 3. Cheers

Part of me feels like the range debate is soooo overdone and we should be past it by now, but the fact of the matter is that no matter how much I love the Model Y for day to day driving the range is, quite honestly, absolute ass for road trips. Just to get out of Texas I will be driving 85 mph for 5-10 hours depending on which direction I go, and at 85 mph in 100+ degree weather (AC running at full blast) you will be lucky to even hit 180 miles on a full charge and 19 inch wheels. And that's taking it all the way from 100% to close to zero. If you're instead doing 80% (to limit charge time and battery degradation) to 10% (to have a safety buffer) you're looking at less than 130 miles of range at 85 mph with AC working hard. That is essentially unusable unless you have a _very_ relaxed idea of what a road trip is or if you are ok with stopping over and over again to put 15 minutes worth of charging in every 50 miles to keep the battery between 20 and 80% at all times. That method adds up to 10 stops just to get from central Texas to Colorado. I don't know if there will be a solution to this anytime soon, as there's been almost no improvements to EV range in the past five years. At this rate it'll be 15 more years before we see a Model Y with a true 400 mile range or even a 250 mile range at 85 mph.

I rented a Model Y for a road trip last year from Denver to San Antonio (with time in Dallas and Austin) and it was absolutely miserable. I've rented them multiple times for road trips, so I'm not a newbie, but your experience trying to drive across Texas in one sounds very much like my experience. Especially because the range estimates are so far off in the heat. I even had one of those roof sunshades and multiple static cling tinted pieces to help with the sun. On the long trip back to Colorado through desolate parts of TX, almost got stranded a couple of times. I ended up turning around and going back to a charger and hanging out until the sun went down because it was super obvious the range was off by probably 80+ miles and I would have been stranded before making it to my next stop. I was even driving slow and turned the climate control off, still didn't really help much. It just doesn't seem like it's been tested very well in that environment for road trips. It really made me not trust the vehicle at all.
@mannydcbianco6 ай бұрын
@@yayinternets Your experiences matches mine almost 100%. It's borderline unusable for road tripping. Driving through vast, desolate areas (plenty of those in Texas) with no Tesla chargers for dozens upon dozens of miles can drive the anxiety through the roof. You can end up having to go 45 minutes out of the way just to charge. Up in the north it works a bit better than down here: lower speed limits (65-70 in most places) makes a significant difference for the range, as does the cooler climate (unless it's winter and then we have the frozen battery issue instead...). Plus most northern states are smaller and more densely populated so there are more chargers available within a reasonable distance.
@ERIKM-ed9ef6 ай бұрын
@@mannydcbianco AAA reports that two thirds of road trips are less than 400 miles. Your self reported experience is an outlier. 5-10 hours just to get out of Texas? Ever heard of flying? I've both driven and flow to New Mexico from Los Angeles multiple times over my life. I'll take flying any day. Why wast two to four days of your vacation? It's like saying I'll work in Richmond, VA but keep my family in Syracuse, NY--I'll just drive the 500 miles on Friday night to be with my family on the weekend. That would make no sense. I would even go farther to say that if you are on a "road trip" time by definition does not matter. But I think what some people really saying is that they don't want to spend the money to fly and rent a car. Fair enough. Just be honest with your true motivation for dissing EVs.

The e-technology and efficiency are great, but I miss some things (comfort features) about the car and some of it is simply put together carelessly. There is no luggage security in the trunk in general or when loaded up to the roof. This is safety relevant! the small headrests at the back are uncomfortable. I also don't think it's a good thing that there is no radar-based driving assistance system, that there is currently no proper parking assistance (only a camera, no sensors) and that the windshield wiper somehow does what it wants.

17:42 Dog mode A/C with interior temperature billboard sized display. That is essential when somebody walks by a closed car with dogs in it on a hot summer day. Police and other people will break the windows. I hope the system defaults to put all the windows down before shutting down A/C. It still seems a bit risky with possibility of failure. I leave the windows down. At first one of the terriers would jump out to follow us, but once the car became familiar he stayed. They were both rescues and likely ran away without their original owner really searching for them. They didn't become tame until several dog schools and taking them for long exhausting 2 hour walks daily all over Paul Ruster Park over a few years. Three are a lot of people that wish Tesla offered an adaptive air suspension in the Model Y that comes in the Model S. With Tesla's advanced software development I'd think it should develop an active suspension. That is a suspension that makes use of active components instead of springs and dampeners that reads and adjusts in thousands of a second. Active suspensions were being developed in F1 in the early 1990s till the rules forbid them. The reason for forbidding active suspensions in F1 was a driver with some support thought they would remove the driver from being a critical aspect of racing in F1. There was also the fear the active suspension could fail suddenly uncontrollably crashing the car. That fear appears to be the fear that takes place with any large change. Deciding on a new model Y: A new model Y doesn't have the expensive after market characteristic upgrades as the current car. Those upgrades likely don't add to the resale value and are likely wanted immediately on a new model Y. The unbelievable low interest rate of 0.99% 28:55 on a new May 2024 model Y is hard to believe with most new car interests rates getting on the closer side of 10% which compounds a sicking amount for a five year loan. Five year car loan interest rates Googled 2024-06-07 Fico 661 to 780 (prime) new 7.01% used 9.73% Being that the car is continuously going to be used for KZbin reviews a new car with new after market suspension and other day two components makes sense, because it is of interest to KZbin viewers. Also as a sale representative it is good image to stay obviously up to date with the car you are driving around as long as you feel the replacement is at least as fulfilling to drive and own. Tesla interiors are just OK at best on its first generation cars and below what is expected for premium cars. A Honda Accord is better. It now possible on a new Model S to get $20K+ interior upgrade with real leather and durability aspects suppose to be at the level of a top Mercedes. That overly costly interior upgrade makes the Model S plaid acceptable for persons that would normally carry people in their top level Mercedes or BMW. The reason for the paint clear protective coating wasn't gone into. Is the Tesla model Y prone to paint chipping or abrasive paint wear? The main issue with insurance of BEVs in general is even in a relatively minor traffic collision if the battery pack is damaged the car is frequently considered totaled by the insurance company causing high insurance rates for BEVs. Hyundai BEVs have had battery pack replacement quotes at $56K. Teslas battery packs survive better in a minor collisions than many other BEVs. Teslas are hard to get parts for. Tesla should encourage a strong parts delivery program both internal over the counter parts which are available with shipping at reasonable prices and aftermarket. Not owning a BEV the reason I'm interested in a USA EPA rated BEV 400 mile range is because it is expected in high speed driving, to be comfortable, about 2/3 of that maybe reasonable range. At around 0°F running the heater with other very cold weather increases in energy consumption, a 50% range reduction is likely with current BEVs. ICE vehicles at 0°F also use more energy, but they are not losing energy due to the cold reducing their battery chemistry. One reason to have hybrid electric gas vehicles is to use ICE hot exhaust and hot water to heat the vehicle's interior and battery pack in 0°F temperatures and below. I'm not aware of any manufacture using the hot exhaust from the ICE for warming the battery pack, but the exhaust heat is almost instant after starting the engine. CATL has a new LFP battery that is suppose too have minimal chemistry energy loss significantly below freezing and 10 minute fast charging, but it still has energy loss issues at very cold temperatures. That is the physics of low temperature chemistry. Gravity EV chargers are the only fast chargers that maybe able to take advantage of CATL's very fast charging batteries. Gravity has a future goal of 5 minute full charging with the current chargers able to provide 1/2 MW. Gravity EV chargers only seems to have a presence in NYC, but it is hopping to grow hugely. The current Tesla's except maybe Cybertruck don't allow for that high rate of charging. Earth's greenhouse effect is always in saturation from the strong greenhouse gas water vapor absorbing all the greenhouse radiant energy from the earth within 20 meters of the surface and can't have its overall effect changed by other greenhouse gases such as CO2 or methane. That was taught in my high school science and hasn't changed. C3 plants would benefit greatly from three times current atmospheric CO2 levels greatly greening the earth. Global warming has been dead at about 1°C since 1992. In 2022 global warming was officially reported at 1.06°C. In 1991 global warming was officially reported at 1.1°C. Without new technology nuclear electric power generation or hydroelectric power new ultra high efficient clean burning coal electric power plants have 1/4 the fueling costs of cheap natural gas. Natural gas in the USA will probably only go up in cost. Coal should stay constant in price. Most older USA coal fired electric generation plants build in the 1950s and 1960s are having to use low BTU Powder River Basin coal at 2/3 the BTU content per pound as WV bituminous coal because it has very low sulfur and it is the only practical means to meet sulfur dioxide emission regulations. That 's means they are having to ship 50% more coal for the same BTUs of heat where shipping is a primary expense of coal. They burn coal inefficiently. These make their coal fueling costs high with the plants also being at their end-of-service life. Wyoming PRB coal would be practically worthless if it wasn't essential for old technology coal fired plants to meet sulfur dioxide emission requirements. Newer technology coal plants build in the 1970s burn high BTU coal able to deal effectively with some sulfur content. Thank-you for the video it covers many aspects of long term ownership of a Tesla Model Y.

We are in our 60's and the MYP was the first EV we have ever had, and we love it! Super practical and more fun than any ICE vehicle we've had in decades. Doing a "Tesla Launch" on the MYP is impressive. Even "at my age", when a pumped up exotic or roaring V8, at a stoplight, show definite intent to blow my doors off, if the road ahead is clear, I leave them in the rear view mirror every time. I can't help myself. We charge it from our 10Kw solar system on our house in the Coachella Valley area (hotter than Phoenix). Longer roads trips are so easy with the Tesla Supercharger mapping/nav system built into the car and app. If the Supercharger selections would also expand to show the close by amenities to it, that would be even better. Oh, I hauled a quite large 60gal heat-pump water heater, in it's shipping box, inside in the MYP. The guys loading it at a Lowes said "no f'in way!" They were amazed/dumbfounded when it slid all the way up to the front seat backs, and I closed the trunk hatch. See ya guys!
