We present the Boys Invitational 3200 meter race from the 2021 Arcadia Invitational Track & Field Meet. Featuring all California athletes due to limitations imposed by health authorities during the pandemic, an amazing 15 boys broke 9:00 in the race - including four from 2019 NXN champion and distance powerhouse Newbury Park high. The video features pre and post-race comments from Newbury Park High coach Sean Brosnan and team athletes.
Junior Colin Sahlman of Newbury Park took the lead from the beginning, setting a blistering pace and pulling a group along. Sophomore Lex Young, also of Newbury, tucked in behind his teammate and matched the 66 second laps. In the middle and later laps there was some jockeying between Ajani Salcido of Jesuit, Chris Caudillo of Clovis, Sean Lacey of Bella Vista and Nolan Topper of Bellarmine for the lead of the chase pack - but none could close the 5 to 7 second gap that Sahlman and Young had created. On the final lap, Young closed on Sahlman, and coming into the final 100M made a charge that brought him almost shoulder to shoulder - but, Sahlman had another gear left and held his teammate off for a win at 8:43:42 (just 29 hundredths ahead of Young at 8:43.71). Final top 15:
1 Colin Sahlman 11 Newbury Park 8:43.42
2 Lex Young 10 Newbury Park 8:43.71
3 Ajani Salcido 12 Jesuit 8:51.32
4 Chris Caudillo 10 Clovis 8:51.98
5 Nolan Topper 12 Bellarmine 8:52.95
6 Leo Young 10 Newbury Park 8:55.82
7 Joshua Schuld 12 Beckman 8:56.34
8 Colin Peattie 12 Bellarmine 8:56.73
9 Daniel Appleford 11 Newbury Park 8:56.77
10 Braden King 11 Jesuit 8:56.89
11 Sean Lacey 11 Bella Vista 8:57.13
12 Alex Mader 11 Lick-Wilmerding 8:57.34
13 Emanuel Salas 11 Sanger 8:57.73
14 Daniel Winter 11 St. Mary's 8:58.02
15 Bryce Gilmore 11 Sage Creek 8:58.82
We will eventually post additional race videos from the 2021 Arcadia Invite. Remember, 4:20's not that fast.

My guess Brosnan regretted that comment with the backlash, then tried to own it with the stickers at State.

When I coached we went to Mt SAC often. As soon as we got there they would hear Tim on the loud speaker. He just lit them on fire. Their parents would drive down from 29 Palms to watch the races. They were stunned at how well their children did there.
