If you want to drive this car or any car and you complain about the shifter, you need to sit closer to the steering wheel you're too far away your arms are extended. A good rule of thumb is to sit in the car with your arms stretched out until your wrist touch the top of the steering wheel and now you're in the right position to drive a car manually with elbows bent. If you need to counter it's pretty hard to do it with stretched arms

I'm looking to get a 2022 and I've been struggling to decide if I want the manual or the auto because it will be my only car and I know sometimes a manual is a bummer in traffic. But I can't convince myself that the CVT will be as reliable as the rest of this car is and it just doesn't make since to throw something like that into a car that should otherwise be bulletproof. I test drove both the manual and auto back to back in the same day, and the manual was by far a better feeling ride (though the CVT isn't as terrible as many people love to say it is).

So quick questions about driving a manual. I never driven one but the day I do, I'm always curious about things. If you know you're gonna drive for a while, you can just go to 5th/6th and just accelerate and brake normally? Or do you gotta go through all the gears individually? 2. If you gotta slow down, is it alright to just brake, come to a stop, and then shift down to 1? Or do u gotta downshift to slow down while braking? I never driven one, keep that in mind, so idk much about it
@shouldigetit3 жыл бұрын
Hey Danny! I can make a video about this. Yes you can jump straight from 1st or 2nd into 5/6th. You can jump from any gear to any gear or all depends on your speed. You can brake to slow down without using the clutch or shifting but to come to a full stop you’ll need to clutch in all the way or (I recommend) going into neutral. Good video I like the shorter, quick approach. I just bought a 2021 Corolla XSE, w/a 6 speed manual (save the manuals) in silver metallic w/a black metallic roof. Don’t get sucked into an automatic. A double clutch automatic like Porsche PDK or VW DSG are fabulous, even regular torque converter automatic transmission are good (I know, I have owned or own all three), but most enthusiasts are not fans of CVT transmissions. But, a plus for the Corolla CVT is that is does have an actual gear for 1st gear then is transfers to CVT after 1st. One correction for the cruise control. The actual vehicle-to-vehicle distance settings are long/medium/short and equates to 160 feet, 130 feet and 100 feet, respectively. Not 1 car length, 2 car lengths and 3 car lengths. I am looking in the owners manual. Can one imagine doing 70mph and following a car at 3 much less 1 car length?

Great review. I love this car, but I don't agree in the trunk space. It's actually VERY small (17.8/23.3 ft3 seats up/down) compared to Mazda 3 Hatch (20.1/47.1 ft3), Honda Civic Sport Hatch (22.6/46.2 ft3) VW Golf Hatch (17.4/52.7 ft3)...numbers don't lie!!! I drive an old 2003 Mazda Protege 5 that is 19.8/38.2 ft3 and is a very nice trunk space for my wife and I (no pets/kids), but when I saw this trunk I was shocked! (BAD design @Toyota). Why is this car so heavy?! It car is about 32lbs lighter than the Mazda 3 hatch, but 97lbs heavier than the VW Golf and 190lbs heavier than the Honda Civic Sport Hatch (by the way...I compared ALL Manual Trans cars). Also, @Toyota is cheating customers by not giving them 100% leather seats...the leather should be ALL over the areas where one seats. This is how they maximize profits while giving you less...bastards!

I did not get a Manual because the car was intended for 3+ hours of commuting in stop and go traffic, and was pleasantly surprised by the CVT.. much better than the Nissan CVT I had in our 2012 Rouge. For just a plain, basic commuter, I was VERY happy with my 2021 Corolla SE. And yes, sport mode with paddle shifters is plenty fun when I get a chance at some twisty roads.

I had this car, CVT... but 2.0 it is too much gas 😬, 1.5 turbocharged would be great, the trunk is small, I think needs slightly wider wheels and improved suspension, the steering is short to be a hatchback, Honda Civic hatchback, Mazda 3 hatchback had better performance, still not a sunroof version. I had to changed it for the a Corolla sedan hybrid, just I hope Toyota can make the 2022 much better than this, fix those fake exhausts and put a doble real. It has good power, right size, easy to parking, easy to drive, I miss the back dor, was a nice car but the performance for me... I was disappointed 😩... good video man 👍

Love it, mate. Too bad the arsehole's at Toyota Australia don't give us the three pedal option. And I don't drive CVT's.
@shouldigetit3 жыл бұрын
They're really holding back from you on that one! You don't drive CVT's specifically or just anything that doesn't have 3 pedals?
