Great car but as per usual, too much emphasis on 0-60 times. My car is fast but when I join motorways etc, I dont need to floor it. I gradually get up to speed in my own time without holding anyone up. Why is the assumption that everyone needs to drive full throttle all the time ? This is why the roads are full of impatient bell ends with no self control and no ability to handle a cars power in a mature fashion.
@lapamful3 жыл бұрын
Agreed in terms of the usual motoring journalist criteria. Everything has to have a record setting Nurburgring track time otherwise it's 'under powered'. But I disagree that the 0-60 time is unimportant. There are times when you need a bit of oomph. If you're stopped on the hard shoulder for whatever reason (police pulled you over etc) and you need to get back up to speed, you don't want to be hanging about if it's a busy road. Also there are places with dual carriageways where you need to cross them from a standstill and again, sometimes you want the car to give you that push and not hang about.
@kirbsmeister23 жыл бұрын
Agree with you although I find that having acceleration when you need it (changing to a faster lane when it's busy-ish, merging with a short slip lane) is handy, but even in my 70HP 2nd gen Yaris it's generally nothing that dropping a gear won't fix! Does seem odd that car journalists seem to think everyone is setting lap times in their hatchbacks!

The car excels around town and shorter journeys naturally. It really does what it sets out to do amazingly. I agree performance isn't what people ought to zone in on particularly. It still has plenty though, especially in the conditions its best suited for. The 0-30 is excellent and that's all you need. It's overall power figure is far from anaemic and when you consider the stellar fuel economy. It's one of the best B segment cars in its area vs the competition in my opinion.

Don't forget that with the hybrid you get the full Toyota Safety Sense System which includes Lane Trace Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Road Sign Assist, Pre-Collision System, and most importantly, the Full Range Adaptive Cruise Control, which works even in slow moving traffic. This is a big plus in my book, as more basic models do not have the entire suite, and other manufacturers offer fewer safety and assistance systems. The climate control as basic is also something that is seen only in the Peugeot 208, which costs around the same.

Boot AREA and regularity give a much better idea instead of counting those liters up in the air, which mostly VW cars exploit to make 'class leading' models. The difference between the cars in this segment is the badge. The reason you buy a Toyota is for the build quality (not really the stuff you see, the important stuff). The only reason you buy a German car is for the badge.
@kristians27043 жыл бұрын
that is so wrong. Mercedes, BMW, Audi clearly offer way more features, technology, better platforms with RWD, more powerful engines etc. Nobody cares about the badge but German cars are still better in every category aside from reliability.
@thewaywardgrape38383 жыл бұрын
@@kristians2704 'Better platforms' - Define better? Technology - You mean infotainment? BMW has the best, agree. Safety tech, not so much. Powerful engines - Really? Most people who commute to work don't need power. Nor will they use it in most countries. aside from reliability - You realise a car is essentially a tool; to do a job. Reliability is the most important factor for any tool. Bare in mind, I own a Yaris GR, Porsche 718 GT4 and a Jaguar F-Type SVO. My wife's 4 series BMW isn't particularly better than my son's Hyundai i40. In fact the interior on the BMW is worse in places! There's £17k between the two cars
@kristians27043 жыл бұрын
@@thewaywardgrape3838 If we are talking about NEW cars (not used) then all cars are reliable for the first 6 years or so and that’s why reliability is almost never mentioned in new car reviews. Most people that get NEW cars will either lease or buy for 4-7 years and get rid of them. Better platforms I mean more solid and RWD platforms so better handling. German cars def DO have the nicest interiors (Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Audi). The people who have to drive to work can still use the performance on a motorway where you can legaly do 70mph.
@thewaywardgrape38383 жыл бұрын
@@kristians2704 There's literally reports published every year, rating the reliability - average repair cost and repair frequency, reported by owners. RWD doesn't mean better handling. Handling is defined as driver & car interaction; how the car feels when you're using it. Pretty much all modern cars are dull to drive. They require very little steering input too. Like I said, my son's Hyundai is nicer and than the BMW. Infotainment wise, the Hyundai doesn't come close. Ultimately, it's the build quality of the cabin you should be concerned about. As for performance, let's be real. Modern cars don't struggle to do 100mph, the difference is how quickly it gets there. Being RWD doesn't mean anything either, that's just something people believe because reviewers say it so.
@kristians27043 жыл бұрын
@@thewaywardgrape3838 Yeah I will agree that Hyundai/Kia are the only mainstream brands that are very close to premium brand in terms of interior but something like Toyota or Honda doesn’t come close to German cars when it comes to interior. The issue here is that Carbuyer has given their presenters the flexibility to deviate from the standard framework and adopt their own individual approach and style when filming and editing. We had witnessed that once before with Ginny's awkward camera angles. Consequently, we ended up watching reviews from the same channel as if they were coming from two different channels. The truth of the matter is that this presenter has chosen to carry over to Carbuyer filming techniques from the previous channel he was with, the name of which I cannot recall. Why do these plastic presenters talk in riddles and rhymes and try to mimic clarkson - does grate a little/alot - just talk normally

Too repetitious and wooden. The use of multiple camera views is so passé, the man has a droning voice and knows very little about the car he is supposed to be reviewing. The CVT is not the ordinary type but Toyota improvement of the concept. Car Buyer bosses take note, this man might well be better in a different job.

Let get real here nobody wants automatic cars, this is not america. If toyota does not want to offer a 6 speed manual transmission normal gearbox in the through sense of the word, then the consumer should give them the heave-hoe or the two fingers in which ever order that's up to you. The same applies to all the rest of the car manufacturers out there that don't want to offer the option of both types. !

Bientôt la voiture électrique et aucun besoin d'une boîte manuelle. Sinon reste la Yaris sport de 240ch a 6 vitesses
