I recently bought one and I was absolutely shocked on how efficient it is. When I test drove I actually got angry at myself for not trying one out earlier. It's so easy and quite to drive around in a big the city and the economy is just mind boggling. I am actually getting 4.7lt/100 km in the city and 5.3lt/100 on the highway on average. It made me realise just how much energy is wasted on a car. I keep scratching my head looking at all the traditional car manufacturers trying out endless combinations of 1-litre 3-cylinder turbos that are neither that powerful nor really economical. It's really shameful that the press seems to completely ignore it.

@@peter.weisenbacher I get the odd 3.6 here and there on a mostly downhill route but it always evens out on the way back. My min average after last refill was 4.7 and my max was 5.3. My overall average at the moment is 5.1. Not bad at all if you consider that the 1-litre Ford Fiesta is at 6.8

Sensibly, not frugally. Sensibly is better word, frugally is too strong. 3,8l is with sensible driving, you go lower with frugall.

1:10 - That's not a negative. I much prefer a lever to a wheel, because it's so much faster. Especially since me and my wife both drive the same car and we frequently have to fiddle with the seat.

We have the exact same model of Yaris, and to be fair, going on long trips in this car is compatible. We live in Stuttgart and has been on road trips to Denmark and Spain in our Yaris GR Sport without any complaints. Storage space in the boot could be better, but for two people is plenty.

He keeps comparing a hybrid car with a Fiesta and a Polo. Are the later brands even hybrid? If not, not a very good comparison isn't it? I am so anti gas guzzling car. I won't even consider buying Fiesta or Polo, even if they are far more well appointed than this Hybrid car. People looking at hybrid technology has their strong motivation, I would even overlook certain shortcomings of this hybrid car. Also I trust the toyota brand for life-long reliability, I won't touch a Ford with a barge pole.

After running one for a couple of years, a couple of minor comments: You didn’t show what’s under the floor of the boot - mine has a “space saver” spare. Useful when I had a puncture, rather than having to scrap the tyre after using something else - albeit it’s limited to 50 mph on the spare. It’s a relatively narrow body; useful in many urban areas, supermarket car parks etc. The only other item is that my Excel trim one is on 16” wheels, and has a higher “rolling resistance” c.f. the 15”, having wider tyres etc. Thus it’s official CO2 figures are 82 g/100 km (not 75g/100 km on some of them); be careful if you’re in and out of some congestion charging zones! On the bright side, it’s starts from rest briskly, with no risk of stalling or rolling backwards - that’s the electric traction for you; you mentioned this a bit, but it does make it easy to handle in some areas compared with a conventional manual gearbox car.

I drive a Yaris now and have owned an older Yaris before now which I owned for several years. I’d like an auto next as my wife’s car is an auto but everything else on the market other than Suzuki, Mazda and Toyota have NA engines which can’t be faulted... I think the Yaris has and always will be bullet/bomb proof....

I have this exact car/model/spec the GR-Sport. 0:52 45mpg? I'm already getting 57mpg! 1:13 The lever adjustment on the seats is quick and easy. this isn't a negative. 1:20 I'm 6 ft and the sports seats are perfectly comfortable 1:34 Ibiza, polo, fiesta better quality, nope. 1:59 The microphone can easily be turned up in the settings and is a 3 second job, it's perfectly good and clear. 2:12 Infotainment to the left, I can reach it perfectly from the drivers seat, all the controls I need are on the main screen in front of me. 2:23 Button position, this isn't an issue or dangerous. you don't need to keep playing with them whilst driving, press them once and leave them. 2:45 Indicator, I'm a big boy, I can press the stalk all the way down. 3:45 I'm still 6ft and can fit perfectly well in the rear seats, headroom is also not an issue. 3:58 never needed rear door pockets yet! 4:11 bootspace is perfectly fine 5:17 you really don't know how to drive a hybrid, do you. 6:18 it goes like a stabbed rat 7:11 it has sports suspension, check the tyre pressures are't way high and it's smooth. 7:20 no they don't 7:32 motorway driving is perfectly smooth 7:43 no more road noise than any other car I've ever driven. 8:31 the ride is supposed to be firm, it's precise and very little body roll 8:33 it's very practical 8:35 the interior is perfectly fine

The lever adjustment is the best bit about a Japanese car. These ridiculous rolly knob is like a Ford in the 1980’s. Hey man, you’re on the M6 at Preston at 11pm and stop for a break. You just want to put the seat back easily. Guess he’s rather spend 5 minutes twiddling a stupid knob. Again not in the real world

Agreed, however official manufacturer figures, who believes those anymore? the raison d`etre of a small hatchback surely is economy, so not to include your own figures, whilst on test, something we could believe as real world motoring seems very strange.
@ParkersTV
@ParkersTV 5 жыл бұрын
The figures are now WLTP, so far more accurate than the older, NEDC standard. As such, we would only usually state if the actual fuel economy varied wildly from this (we managed about 45mpg across 900 miles). We’ll look into creating a real-world fuel economy graphic for future videos.

The reviewer like so many others seems to have no idea how CVTs work. Its as though they expect something totally different when they press the pedal. Ive had Subaru CVT and they work very very well so long as you understand the best way to progress and the way they are designed to function. People are lazy or ignorant these days, the amount of comments I see on videos where they say CVT IS RUBBISH is quite astonishing. My Outback could outrun a Golf GTD on hilly country roads when I had it in "S" mode, even though its heavier and laughably people say the Outback is not quick enough. My current 1.6 Impreza lost a Cooper on country roads a while back. Its not all about power, its how you use it and how good the car is at handling. Thank you.
@ParkersTV
@ParkersTV 2 жыл бұрын
We’re not providing comment on how a CVT works, instead how they behave and why they’re - subjectively - inferior to alternative transmissions in rival cars. Of course, as an owner of multiple CVT transmission vehicles you are no doubt satisfied with their performance. But please do understand that we need to be impartial during our reviews and not focus solely on whether one car can ‘outrun’ another on a country road.

I have had 5 Yaris models. This is the 1st hybrid which I have had for one year. My biggest complaints is that storage area above the glove box is useless. The fittings for the false floor in the boot take about 20 percent of the boot space because the fittings are all along the front edge and the back corner fittings means you cannot put a suitcase right up to the side of the boot. As you said no rear storage bins in the rear doors, there are none in the new Corrolla either. The biggest gripe is the front Tyre wear on Toyota's choice of continental Tyre's. 5500 miles in one year & the front tyres more than half worn. What this designed to be a super mini city driving. I am disgusted at the life of the tyres. The lack luster interior & entertainment system with no android auto/apple car play either, is now beyond a joke. Shall be going back to Peugeot. I am not getting any where near the fuel economy figures either.

I have an icon trim hybrid for 2 years now. I know the short comings of this car, agreed with storage above glovebox is useless. Info systems is basic. Tyre size is small anything other than the 16" wheels. Mine was 175/65/15, horrible when cornering, I changed it to 185/60/15 tyres, it's much better now. There was 6mm tyre tread left when I bought the car, driven 11k miles and still have over 3mm on the front - Dunlop blue response it came with. So there could be some sort of problem with your setup, maybe tyre pressure incorrect etc. I get 50mpg in winter and 60+mpg in the summer usually around 65mpg. I got this car of efficiency, automatic with fuel consumption of a manual small diesel. Although it's more challenging to drive to get good efficiency. I prefer a diesel which one can drive anyhow and still get good efficiency.
