Great video! Very informative/helpful. I was within a hair of pulling the trigger on a 800 Vstrom DE today. DE is RE in the UK. DE is us in The Great White North. Once I fully checked out the Triumph 850 Sport today, for the first, I now no longer remember the name Vstrom. I bought the Triumph 850 Sport. My girlfriend, she’s an ER nurse, is convinced my bike will be the end of me. Nah… Cheers

I part exchanged my 2018 800 XRT for the lovely 850 back in March and pretty much agree with your comments. I had been tempted by the 900, but found the paint scheme uninspiring and it was very much at the top end of my budget. I think the 850 looks much sharper and have the blue also. The 800 XRT was a fab bike with all the extras, the original owner had also fitted a Heed quickshifter, which I didnt like much. So the only extra I added was the heated grips, a definite luxury here in Queensland Australia, but it can get a bit chilly in the hinterland mountains. If I was still back in the UK, it would be an absolute must!

The service interval is extended on the 850 compared to the 900? I think it is driven by the oil capacity which is quite small on this engine. I believe the excuse that the 850 is in a lower state of tune they are happy with the longer interval. Great value bike,

Cheers for this. As I'm a short bloke and getting on a bit It could well be a contender to replace my 1250GS once that becomes too heavy for me to handle. I tried the 800 but just found it a bit unengaging and the 1200 was way too big and heavy. A smaller lighter adv bike is where I'll be heading eventually as after having 3 GS's I can't see me going back to a non adv style bike. I wouldn't worry about the service intervals as they all tend to require an annual service anyway if you've not done the 6000/8000/9000/12000 etc.

I am 63. I got a GSXR1000 K5 . You have to be careful with the power which is everywhere but its very comfy, not wristy cos its small and its easy to push around. Its too fast for busy UK roads really but the power/weight (170bhp/185kgs wet) make it basically the fastest thing on the road - which is Big Fun. Adventure bikes are too heavy and top-heavy as well . I like my little sports bike!

I have rode the 850 and i loved the bike! but i don't think i would buy it. mainly not because of what is and has but because of what is doesnt have. for instance, i would rather buy the 900 gt to have cruise control and the bigger dash. i hated that small dash, the tachometer makes no sense! sure, it is not a bike in which you will allways be at the red line, but i want to be able to look and realise what RPM i'm at without wasting 10 seconds. i believe the bigger dash on the 900 will solve that issue but I haven't tried it. and i was a little bit annoyed by the vibrations, but i do own a street triple with that smoth 3 cilinder. overall, i loved the bike and, has i said, i wouldn't buy it because of the small details i mentioned. as they say, the devil is in the details. ride safe!

@@Englishbikerdan It's not that i'm a very experienced rider or anything like that, but I believe it's a great begginer bike. It is a great bike, but it lacks a few extras to be a great touring bike, rather the good bike it already is. but I believe it is suposed to be like that, so you would consider the 900GT. But that's just my opinion, If the bike suits you, that's what's important. enjoy it ;)

@@speedyks255 It's as it is designed, a stripped back simpler 900. No fancy items but still the great chassis and engine and brakes. It's a fantastic bike! But ride what suits your needs as I always say! Cheers. 👍

Honest question here. Between this and the new 2024 f800gs. Which one and why? (I’ll be honest the GS comes better equipped and i can ecu the engine to be the exact same f900gs power. Thanks in advance for those of you who reply. ❤

How does it compare to the new 2021 Honda NC750X?
@Englishbikerdan3 жыл бұрын
I've not ridden that yet but it seems to be a bit less in terms of performance.

Why get this over the 900GT? When you've added all the bits and pieces you want the prices must be close?

The GT with the extras was over £13k. This was just over £11k so I still saved a good amount. Best of all it hardly feels any different for the riding I'll be doing.

Great review, Think the 850 is the best out of the Tiger 888cc model range, how you getting on with the more vibey feel of the T plane crank on UK roads ? Is there any way to remap to gain the extra horses the 900 Tiger has over 850 ?
@Englishbikerdan3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's pretty good. It might annoy on longer trips but honestly, upto 80mph it's fine. You could definitely do a remap and claim back those horses. 👍

@@Englishbikerdan Sounds good, I didn't like the vibes & lack of power of the 900 Rally Pro i rode (as well as that stupid tacho display), but I've been spoilt with owning smoother & more powerful 1050's. I've decided to wait for 1160 Tiger, but saddened it's a T plane crank. Am hoping they put a full fat chain driven 120 degree crank 1160 Speedie motor in a road based 1200 Tiger Sport or Sprint 👍

So is thére a real improovment to thé old XR 800 in any way?
@Englishbikerdan2 жыл бұрын
I think so, but that seems rather subjective. It certainly handles and stops better but the engine is a bit marmite, if you like smooth triples it's probably not for you.
