I'm not a fan of taller bikes with small front wheels. Looks like KTM raided the parts bins of every other model and threw them together creating this. Odd

Looks are subjective. I loved the previous versions of the SM and SMT but this one is awful. I think its largely down to the colour scheme, the white looks wrong. Probably needs a graphics kit to hide it.

I've just bought one of these. I now eagerly anticipate the legendary dry and warm Spring and Summer that Scotland is famous for. 'What's the point' gets thrown at things so often now but, what's the point 😂. If you like something and want to have it and enjoy then go for it. I've been a long time named bike rider and fan. This time I bought this coz 1 I've never owned a BMW bike and 2 if I was gonna have one it had to have all the bells and whistles. I'm not bothered about cock waving, boasting about power etc, I just think about people who always question you 'why?' when you get something they disapprove of... Answer 'Why not'?

Thanks for a nice review! I testrode one last year and is seriously considering to buy one this year. I have a Multistrada V4s today and want something a bit less heavy but with touring capabilities. I found the KTM engine to be every bit as smooth as the Multistrada or even better and if we are honest we don't need 170 hp most of the time..... On the KTM you can twist the throttle a bit at least. The interesting thing about the SMT is maybe that there are few other bikes out there doing the same thing. It somehow falls between a naked bike like a Yamaha Mt09 and a Multistrada V2 with 19" front wheel. Personally I loved the handling and the engine (and that was directly after jumping off the Multistrada V4S ) . Like you, I also noticed that the quickshifter was not the smoothest, but I tend to use the clutch a lot of the time and the quickshifter more during overtakes etc. Most quickshifters still today work better in the higher gears and at certain revs or throttle openings. The only downside was the lack of wind protection which was a small shock after being spoilt by the Multistrada for a while. But I would probably try one of the taller screens offered by KTM power parts or something else.

As I see it the only way KTM can salvage this motor's and their own brand reputation is to offer blanket, no questions asked warranty coverage regardless of age and for any service history, not just KTM dealer service etc. If as they say the cam issue only effects a small proportion of bikes they have nothing to fear from such an arrangement given cams are not a service item like brake pads and should be expected to last the life of the motor. Trust is a two way street and once lost is almost impossible to regain.

I do which manufacturers would stop quoting dry or kerb weights. It’s such BS - it’s not as if they are unable to weight the fluids and no-one is fooled by a low dry weight. It’s not the true weight anyway as they’ll quote the weight for the bare bike without any options.

Great video, Powerbronze may not be paying you, but if you say their stuff isn't good they might not give you any more free stuff in future, so you are compromised and your views can't be as objective as someone who buys their stuff with their own money and then gives their opinion. Not being critical but it's just an obvious fact.
